Weeknights Are Easier When BI-LO Cooks

This is a sponsored post in partnership with BI-LO. All opinions are my own.

Raise your hand if you are sick and tired of cooking for what feels like 239 times a week. You can be certain that I have both hands raised! I cannot believe how much more cooking and cleaning many of us have been doing on a daily basis. Some days I am the expert baker and gourmet chef, other days I am ready to quit! Do you feel me? I decided that a couple days a week I will take some shortcuts to get meals on the table without wearing myself out in the process. We all have enough to think about in the current climate we are living in, so why not take a break when you can?

The BI-LO deli is such a great help when you're taking a day off from the kitchen. There are so many main dishes and sides available including: rotisserie chicken, Lip Lickin' chicken, ribs, sandwiches, salads, coleslaw, and so much more. One thing I like is that I can make a complete meal using items from the deli, or add some premade sides to a main entree I plan to cook that day.

One of my family's favorite main dishes is fried chicken. I don't tend to cook it because of the hassle involved. BI-LO's deli makes some of the most delicious fried chicken that is flavorful and has that perfect crunch.

Look at all of this golden brown deliciousness. They call it Lip Lickin' for a reason!

I like serving fried chicken with sides like potato salad and coleslaw. The combination of the three is perfection! BI-LO has so many to-go sides to choose from. They would go well with any of their rotisserie chickens. Some flavors available are barbecue and lemon pepper. I will be trying some other combinations on the next store trip.

I am a huge fan of sandwiches. I can eat them every day, honestly. My BI-LO deli had turkey, ham, and Italian sandwiches which are made fresh daily. You can always tell by the bread how fresh it is. Believe me, it was just as good as my favorite sub shop sandwich bread. You can't go wrong with a tasty sandwich, chips and a glass of lemonade for lunch.

Meal inspiration ideas using BI-LO deli items:
  • You can make chicken Caesar wraps by using fried chicken tenders from the deli paired with bagged Caesar salad from a kit, then wrap it up in a tortilla.
  • Add grilled shrimp or chicken to the salads available at the hot food counter.
  • Have deli ribs as the main dish paired with deli beans and rolls from the bakery.
  • Shred the meat from a rotisserie chicken to add to your favorite rice dish.
  • Make a sandwich board by taking a variety of deli sandwiches and cutting them into small size portions. Add cubes of cheese and assorted fruit. It's perfect food to graze on while watching a movie together as a family.
There are so many meal possibilities you can come up with these deli foods. It’s easier when BI-LO cooks! It really feels good on days that I didn't have to cook and clean the kitchen multiple times. I hope that you all take good care of yourselves, and take breaks in the kitchen as often as you can. Please stay well and thanks for stopping by.

5 Tips For Instilling the Love for Learning Early On

We as parents have an all-encompassing role in instilling the love for learning early for our children. From getting them motivated in finishing their homework, participate better at school to learning to love any form of study, it’s all about proper conditioning and the right balance of encouragement and rewards.

Life requires us to learn new skills and gain knowledge, and it’s up to us to raise children that are ready for this challenge. Because learning starts when we’re children, it’s also the best time to foster a love of learning. Here are a couple of ways to help our kids love learning.
Identify any learning barrier and plan ways to overcome them. It’s hard to love something when you struggle with it. Be vigilant about signs of issues that could impact your child’s ability to learn at school and taint their enjoyment of learning.

Issues could be social, emotional, or potential learning disorders. While teachers are on the lookout for these, kids sometimes hide it by overcompensating.

If you believe there’s a problem, talk to your child in a comfortable, safe environment. See if you can find any suggestions for stress or avoidance about a particular subject or activity. Questions to ask include asking what their favorite and least favorite part of the school is and why/why not, what are the hardest things they did and why.

Help them engage. Education experts believe that under-performance in school can be caused by a lack of engagement. There’s a plethora of strategies and reforms in place to improve classroom engagement, but parents have the starting reins to work on this lack of engagement at home.

Start by regularly asking your kids what they learned at school. This will help them be proud of their newfound knowledge. Many kids also relish the opportunity to teach something to their parents. This will also encourage them to think more critically about their learning in school, and to learn better. Your questions will need to be age-appropriate.

Make learning enjoyable. Check out your child’s curriculum, textbooks, and homework. There are many examples, but you should be able to find examples to use for activities. If you’re reading this during the current COVID-19 pandemic, then you’ll have plenty of time to revisit and try out more activities.

Assess your child’s curriculum, textbooks, or homework. It can be as simple as counting games, getting them to spell words from their favorite books. For older kids, assist them to discover their passions and interests.

Remove the pressure. We’ve all been there. Academics do put pressure on kids. This includes grades, peers, and parent approval. Giving them a hard time or punishing them for poor results can backfire and make them dread the learning process.

So instead of punishing poor performance, offer support both emotionally and academically. Allow them to be free to express their disappointments without fear of your judgment.  Speak with them, listen well, and collaborate to find ways to help them improve and enjoy school.

Choose the right learning institute. The kind of school where you enroll your child will serve as a beacon in developing many aspects of his or her character, which is why choosing an appropriate one is of paramount importance.

Some curriculum is better than others when it comes to the learner. For instance, expat children and those with international connections should prefer international schools. Consider schools that offer inquiry-based programs like GMP Montessori which not only fosters the development of cognitive, expressive and motor skills but also induces a sense of social responsibility, cultural awareness and environmental consciousness - all key components of GIIS's holistic pedagogy.

Encouragement during this stage must come from you. You need to walk the talk. The values you teach should also be present in you because your kids innately look to you not just for support, but for inspiration as well.

These tips can help to make the school what it needs to be for children — a fun, secure location, where they can learn about the world, themselves, and find out who and what they want to be.

The Importance Of Wearing A Face Mask When Venturing Out

These have been the most challenging times we have been living in in recent months. Who would have ever thought a virus could shut the world down? I am used to being home all the time, but never imagined being forced to stay home under lock-down orders. It's a whole different experience when you have to leave home. Panic sets in and you have to have a real plan to minimize your time out while keeping yourself as safe as possible.
*Today's conversation is sponsored by CanvasDiscount.com. All opinions are 100% my own as always.

It has come to a point now where most grocery stores are requiring you to wear a mask in order to enter their store. I am definitely okay with that. It's not always easy to find masks, and sometimes unavoidable to go to the grocery store. I am so happy that my favorite online custom wall canvas shop, CanvasDiscount.com is now offering Custom Face Mask options. Since we all have to wear them, we might as well be comfortable and even stylish.

There are so many colors and patterns to choose from. You can even upload your own deign for a customized look. The thing I like is that CanvasDiscount.com is super user-friendly and the checkout process is a breeze. Even better is their items are made and shipped in the USA, which means a quick turnaround.

Each custom face mask is made from 2 high-quality layers of Oeko-Tex fabric, machine washable in warm water, and comfortable in a one-size-fits-all design. They are not made for medical use, but more for safety for the rest of us who do not work in the medical industry. Having that layer of protection definitely gives peace of mind. Another plus is the adjustable straps, especially when you have a smaller face.

Pricing for these custom face masks start at $12 each depending on how many you order. It's neat to be able to order different colors and designs to suit each of your family members. Safety masks are even a good idea to give as a gift to neighbors, co-workers or friends. Who would have ever thought that getting a mask as a gift would even be a thing?!
It is so important for all of us to do our part to keep ourselves and others safe and healthy. With social distancing, proper hand-washing, and wearing a protective face mask, we can all help to slow this horrific virus down. Please continue to stay home as much as possible, and stay vigilant when you do leave home. I wish you all good health and safety always. Be well, friends! xoxo

BIC Launches U.S. Program To Recycle Used Pens, Pencils & More The “WRITE” Way

BIC, a world leader in stationery, lighters and shavers, has partnered with international recycling leader TerraCycle® to offer consumers a free and easy way to recycle their fully-used pens, mechanical pencils, markers and other stationery products and parts of packaging nationwide. As an added incentive, for every shipment of used stationery products collected and sent to TerraCycle through this program, collectors earn points that can be donated to a school or charitable organization of their choice.

“As families spend more time writing, drawing and coloring together, we want to provide them with a responsible way to dispose of their products once they are used. Our collection program with TerraCycle gives consumers a simple way to recycle their writing instruments and art supplies to make a difference in the world,” said Mary Fox, North American General Manager for BIC. “Sustainability has always been at BIC’s core. We are thrilled to expand this program to the U.S. from Europe, where we have successfully recycled an astounding 46 million items.”

Through the BIC® Stationery Recycling Program, consumers can now send in all brands of pens, markers, mechanical pencils, highlighters, glue sticks, watercolor dispensers and paint sets to be recycled for free. The program is also collecting the soft, flexible plastic packaging that some writing instruments are packaged in. Participation is easy: sign up on the TerraCycle program page https://www.terracycle.com/bic and mail in the used items using a prepaid shipping label. Once collected, the waste is cleaned and melted into hard plastic that is remolded to make new recycled products. The BIC® Stationery Recycling Program is open to any interested individual, school, office or community organization.

“Through this free recycling program, BIC offers consumers the unique opportunity to learn about the value of recycling products they use every day while learning, playing or working that would otherwise end up in landfill,” said Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle. “We are proud to partner with BIC to offer consumers an easy solution for these typically unrecyclable items.”

This is the latest step BIC has taken on its journey to further enhance the sustainability of its long-lasting products, which are made with the least amount of material, and to minimize its impact on the environment, one of the goals in its 2025 “Writing the Future, Together” program.

BIC and TerraCycle began partnering in 2011 to collect and recycle used stationery products in Europe. A similar program was launched in Australia and New Zealand last year.

The two organizations have also partnered to promote the circular economy by offering BIC products through LOOP, an e-commerce circular economy platform created by TerraCycle aimed at eliminating waste and reducing dependence on packaging.

Exam Time? How To Reduce Your Teenager’s Stress

When teens are studying for their exams, your home might feel full of stress. Emotions are running high, and the pressure to perform well and potentially get into college can be overwhelming. As a parent, it can be difficult to watch your child going through such a stressful period. You remember what it felt like to be at school, and it’s probably a time you wouldn’t want to repeat!

So, as a parent, it’s important to help to reduce your teenager’s stress. While you can’t eliminate exams altogether, you can help to make the period as smooth as possible.

Educational Support

As a parent, it’s important to give your teenager educational support if they need it. Whilst you shouldn’t be overbearing or pushy, if they’re struggling in a certain area you might be able to help. Quizzing them and reading the answers is a good example of this. If you’re not sure of the solution or answer yourself, you can always do some research and find online tools to help, such as this free tool for citation. Alternatively, you might wish to find a tutor for your teenager, who can give them additional support in the exam period.

Limit Distractions

While your teen is revising for their exams, it’s important that you try to limit any distractions in the house. It might be difficult to prevent them from going on the internet, but you can potentially limit their screen time, and make sure that the TV isn’t on in the background. Plus, if your teen’s siblings are being distracting, you can take them out to give your teen some quiet time in the house. Just make sure it’s being used for revision and not gaming!

Cook for them

During the exam period, it’s important that your teen stays well nourished. They won’t be able to concentrate on their revision if their stomach is rumbling! Plus, the time they spend cooking could be used to revise. So, make sure you’re cooking healthy, nutritious meals that fuel their brains and stop them from being hungry. This is especially important on exam days. They will need a big breakfast so they don’t feel hungry during the exam and can concentrate on the paper in front of them.

Emotional Support

The exam period is a stressful time for your teen, and you need to make sure that they’re coping. This means making sure that they’re talking about the way they’re feeling, and not bottling up their emotions. Whilst they need to spend the majority of their time revising, you should make sure that they’re taking adequate breaks and still taking the time to do the activities they enjoy.

Their mental health will suffer if they can’t have fun or see their friends, so encourage them to go out and socialize. If your teen knows that you’re there for them and supporting their decisions, they will feel less stressed and more able to perform well in their exams.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Six New Exercise Habits You Can Build While Social Distancing

The coronavirus has forced the world to stay home and practice social-distancing. Many establishments have closed their doors to keep people from going out and being in close contact with others which may spread the virus. Gyms and other fitness centers have also been forced to remain closed until the pandemic is over and the risk of infection is gone. While this may affect your gym routine, it doesn't mean giving up fitness entirely. It just means you need to get creative and start a new exercise habit.

Photo by Andrea Piacquadio from Pexels
It’s more important than ever that you exercise regularly as it helps build immunity, which is vital for your physical and mental health at this stressful time. We don’t know how long this pandemic will last and how long we will be advised against social gatherings. Fortunately, there are still ways to work out with others while still observing social distancing. Here are some tips:

1. Stay Connected on Your Walk or Run.

Workout buddies are still possible if you set a specific time to walk and talk on the phone simultaneously. You may be separated physically, but staying connected via your phone and earphones can help ensure you both finish your walk or run.

2. Exercise with a Group.

Leverage video chat tools to exercise with your favorite workout buddies. You can exercise with friends and family via video or even organize an online dance party. Find the music you like and dance for half an hour instead of a regular boring cardio workout on your own.

3. Take an Online Fitness Class.

Many fitness classes are also available online. Some are even live-streamed so that you can follow the instructor at home. The only equipment you may need are weights and workout shoes.

4. Find an Online Personal Trainer.

You can also find a personal trainer who can work with you through video chat to have two-way communication during the training. Your trainer can still correct you and hear your feedback. Make sure you research the web to find a personal trainer you trust and like.

5. Do Exercises That Take Up Minimal Space.

If you want to fully observe social distancing by staying at home, find an exercise spot in your house. It may surprise you that it doesn’t take up a lot of space to do exercises like jumping jacks, squats, planks, push-ups, and burpees. You may even run up and down your stairs to get a great cardio workout.

6. Work out in the Pool.

Your pool is perfectly safe to swim in during this pandemic. Experts say that with proper pool maintenance and disinfection, the virus responsible for COVID-19 becomes inactive in your pool. If you’ve mostly used your pool for fun and relaxation, it’s time to recognize your pool is also the perfect place for you to start a new exercise habit. Start by swimming laps or engaging in water aerobics.

Thank you Pool Troopers for this guest post.

How Stickers Can Help Your Business Grow

No matter what type of business you're in, reaching out to customers and generating new leads is an important part of being successful. Fortunately, there are a lot of ways to do that. If you're looking for a way to improve your brand and get your name seen by more people, here's why you might want to consider investing in stickers.

Photo by J Gowell on Unsplash

Versatile Branding

There are a lot of things that make stickers a good branding tool, but their versatility is one of the most important parts. You can put stickers pretty much anywhere, from cars and motorcycles to notebooks, laptops and desks. When you have transparent stickers that can stand up to UV rays and excess water, you have even more options in terms of where you can put them.

Another cool aspect to this versatility is how creative you can be with your stickers. You have your choice between tons of different design options and shapes, plus you can choose the colors and size of your sticker for complete customization. No matter what kind of look you want to create for your brand, you can do it with a good sticker.

Free Advertising

One of the coolest parts about using stickers for branding is the fact that they provide virtually free advertising for you. While you have to pay for the stickers in the first place, all you have to do after that is give some away and stick some on your vehicle, water bottle and other belongings. The more you're out and about and putting that sticker on display, the more likely you are to build a solid customer base. This advertising effort only gets better as you make better stickers, which gives you an incentive to really get down to business when it comes to creating the perfect design. This is why some of the most popular brands give away free stickers to their customers to use as they see fit.

A Simple Process

It's no secret that a lot of advertising methods require a lot of effort, but that's far from the case when it comes to stickers. There are lots of websites where you can print your own clear stickers based on your desired design, colors and size. You can choose exactly how many stickers you want and have them shipped to you in no time. Once you've got a bunch of stickers, you can sell them, put them on things or simply give them away to get your advertising campaign started. While you do have to invest a little bit of money if you want to buy thousands of stickers, the return on investment you get in terms of advertising and boosting your brand is well worth it.

Running a business is hard work, but making advertising easier can lift a lot of that burden. If you're looking for a creative way to advertise your business without putting in constant effort, you might want to think about designing and printing some custom stickers for your business.

Are Medicare Advantage Plans Right for You?

Maybe you're nearing retirement or turning 65. Either way, you're probably wondering about your Medicare options and possibly trying to figure out exactly what is a Medicare Advantage plan? How do they differ, and which plan is right for you?

Well, we've got the answers you've been looking for. Read on as we break down the basics of Medicare Advantage Plans, so you can decide which one is the best choice for you and your health coverage needs.

What Are Medicare Advantage Plans?

Medicare Advantage, also known as Medicare Part C, is a component of Medicare that let's interested parties sign up for coverage through private healthcare insurers who contract with the government. All Medicare Advantage Plans are legally required to offer the same benefits as Medicare Part A and Part B but are allowed to have different rules, costs, and coverage constraints. Most Medicare Advantage plans also include Medicare Part D (prescription drug coverage) within their benefits as well. These plans also offer services that Original Medicare does not cover, such as vision, hearing, dental, and more.

In addition, Medicare Advantage Plans can help save you money. These plans have a yearly limit on what you pay out-of-pocket for Medicare Parts A and B covered services. Once you reach your plan's limit, you won't spend another dime for covered services for the rest of the year. The idea behind these types of plans is to offer subscribers health insurance and prescription drug coverage in a more convenient and potentially cost-saving way.

How Do I Know If a Medicare Advantage Plan is Right for Me?

More and more people are choosing a Medicare Advantage Plan, in fact, enrollment has nearly doubled over the last decade, reports the Kaiser Family Foundation. But before you jump ahead to the sign-up portion, first consider factors such as plan costs, doctor options, any travel plans, and current health conditions that require medical attention to see if the plan's health benefits make sense for your situation. Medicare Advantage plans may not be the right choice if you currently have insurance from an employer or through your union that pays costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover.

The most common types of Medicare Advantage plans are Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs). HMOs typically offer lower monthly premiums to subscribers but also tend to require prior authorization from your insurer to visit any specialists. PPOs, on the other hand, may be a bit more costly but come with greater flexibility as you can generally visit any in-network doctor or specialist without a referral. These plans can vary in cost and coverage by region, so it's best to talk with a private insurer to get one-on-one advice and address any questions you may have.

What Does the Enrollment Process Look Like?

You can apply for a Medicare Advantage plan when you first become eligible for Medicare or during what's referred to as your "Initial Enrollment Period." Think of this first enrollment time as a sort of grace period, where you can enroll in Medicare Advantage plans, add coverage, or even switch plans if need be. The Initial Enrollment Period or (IEP) is based around your 65th birthday. Your IEP begins three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birthday month, and ends three months after your 65th birthday.

If you choose not to enroll during the IEP, don't fret, there are other dates you can apply. There is what's known as the Annual Enrollment Period, which takes place every year from October 15 to December 7. You may also qualify for the Medicare Special Enrollment Period (SPE) based on certain qualifying life occurrences, such as changing jobs or losing current health coverage.

Learn More About Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage plans can save you money and provide additional benefits not seen with traditional Medicare. The best way to navigate the Medicare Advantage selection and enrollment process is to work with a licensed insurer such as Anthem. Anthem agents can serve as helpful resources for determining what Medicare Advantage plans are available, which plans you should consider, when your benefits will start and how to get the full health coverage you deserve.

The Role of CBD Oil For Pets With Dementia

Is your pet aimlessly wandering around the house, looking absolutely confused? Does it treat you like a complete stranger? Well, in case your companion is commencing its senior stage of life, these might be the initial symptoms of dementia.

In fact, animals suffer from cognitive dysfunction syndrome, which humans refer to as dementia. They tend to experience memory loss and impaired cognitive function, which in turn leads to a complete alteration of their eating, sleeping, and all the other essential habits.

Although this syndrome is incurable, there is a natural supplement, called CBD oil, which can help you prolong your companion’s life. Read more about its benefits, administration, and dosage in the treatment of so-called dementia in animals.

Common symptoms

The most common symptoms of the cognitive dysfunction syndrome in animals are actually manifested as gradual changes in their behavior. For instance, disorientation is one of the most obvious initial symptoms, resulting in your pet getting lost in a familiar place, such as your home. Both canines and felines keep staring at doors and walls, having no idea where they are or how to leave the room.

Social interaction changes are also frequent, transforming your friendly pet into a lethargic, bad-tempered creature. It won’t only be hostile to visitors, but to you, as its owner as well. Gradually, its aggression will evolve into an absolute passiveness, showing no interest in any of its favorite activities, such as playing or going for a walk. Visit this page to check out the most common reasons for animals’ lethargy.

Moreover, both canines and felines will start urinating inside the house. The former will stop going outdoors, while the latter won’t use their litter box. The alteration of urinating habits does not result from bladder bowel dysfunction but as a result of forgetting their normal bathroom routine.

Sleep cycle disruption is yet another frequent symptom that manifests in reverse sleep patterns. Pets tend to sleep during daytime and become active during the night hours. They might spend the whole night pacing and wandering around the house, disturbing the sleep cycle of their owners as well.

In addition, your pet’s eating habits may also experience changes, as it simply won’t be able to locate its food plate. Although your companion has eaten from the same bowl for years, it suddenly won’t remember where it is. Unless your dog or cat has an impaired vision, this is a clear sign of dementia.

Benefits of CBD oil

Since cognitive dysfunction syndrome cannot be cured, CBD oil can at least alleviate the symptoms of the condition and make your companion’s life more bearable. For example, its effect on the endocannabinoid receptors that control serotonin secretion is very beneficial for improving your pet’s mood and restoring its interest in everyday activities. The increased secretion of the happiness hormone is enough for getting your furry friend back on its feet. Visit this link: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/232248, to learn more about the function of serotonin.

Furthermore, owing to its anxiety relieving properties CBD oil is capable of promoting calmness, thus reducing your companion’s aggression. Your dog will no longer uncontrollably bark at people or even worse bite someone for no particular reason. This calmness will also contribute to normalizing its sleep pattern, thus reinstating its previous sleep cycles.

Most importantly, CBD is believed to improve animals’ memory by reducing the inflammation of the brain cells. Also, it is thought to regenerate neurons, thus preventing them from wasting away. In fact, brain cells’ death is the main culprit for memory loss.

Administration and dosage

The most efficient way of administrating CBD to canines and felines is by incorporating it into their diet. However, make sure you have a consultation with a veterinarian in order to confirm your doubts and determine the stage of the cognitive dysfunction syndrome of your pet.

Bear in mind that the most beneficial form of cannabidiol for this syndrome is either tincture or capsules, both of which can be purchased online. In fact, you can visit petcbdcommunity to choose from a wide range of CBD products. Tinctures and capsules have the highest rate of bioavailability, which is crucial for the supplement to be absorbed immediately.

In terms of dosage, the amount of CBD would depend on the severity of the condition. Early dementia can be treated with a lower dose than the advanced type. Your pet’s weight is an additional factor to be considered in the calculation. Anyhow, try administering a low dose in the beginning, as not all animals respond to the supplement in the same way.

Wrap up

CBD oil may not be able to cure your companion, but it might prolong its life. The least you can do is to purchase the supplement and give it a try!

The Benefits of Gutter Splash Blocks on Your Home

Owning a home requires a lot of maintenance and upkeep. From indoor cleaning to yard work, the list of chores seems never-ending. Certain home-improvement projects are crucial to protecting your home from further damage in the long run. For example, failure to clean and maintain your gutter system can cause leaks and cracks in the gutters, damage to the siding, and even mold, fungus, and rot. Splash blocks are key components of the gutter system and play a key role in protecting the home from serious damage.

What Are Splash Blocks?

Gutter systems require regular cleaning to avoid build-up and water overflow from the gutters. When gutters overflow, it can lead to damage to the gutter system, siding, and foundation of the home. However, splash blocks are critical pieces of gutter systems as well.

Splash blocks lie at the base of the gutter downspouts. Gutters collect precipitation, which flows into the downspouts and out onto the splash blocks. The purpose of placing splash blocks at the bottom of downspouts is to guide water away from the foundation of the home. Splash blocks allow water to be distributed evenly across the yard.

Splash blocks are made up of various materials, such as rubber, concrete, granite, or plastic. Most splash blocks have narrow entries for the water to flow down from the gutter. The shape widens at the base with a slight angle, so that the water can continue to flow down away from the house. The appearance of splash blocks is usually not noteworthy; however, some homeowners select ones that add to the decorative landscape of their yard.
Although splash blocks are small and simple structures, without them, your home could be at risk for serious damage that could cost you hundreds of dollars to repair.

What Are the Benefits of Splash Blocks?

The benefits of splash blocks are countless. The most obvious benefit of splash blocks is that they eliminate water pooling around the foundation of your home. Without splash blocks, the water will have nowhere to go, and it will grow into a puddle. Water can cause cracks and mold in the foundation of the home, which can be incredibly expensive to reverse.

Without splash blocks, the water buildup can lead to damage similar to that of a clogged gutter, including rot, fungus, mold, drywall damage, and soil erosion. The pool of water can become so large that it eventually ruins the yard.

In addition to home protection, splash blocks evenly disperse the water across the yard. This provides natural irrigation to the landscaping. Despite all these benefits, splash blocks should be directed away from gardens or new grass. The streams of water can be too much for the vulnerable areas of the yard. You will also need to make sure the splash blocks are pointed in the correct direction. Otherwise, they do more harm than good.

Where Can You Buy Splash Blocks?

Most garden supply and big-box retailers sell splash blocks. They range in prices depending on the material as well as how simple or complex the splash blocks are. You should purchase the same number of splash blocks as the number of downspouts in your gutter system. Splash blocks come with a slight angle but can also build a natural ramp of mulch or rocks for quicker distribution of water, which will slow erosion of the area. Splash blocks are a necessity for all homes and must be replaced regularly to remain effective.

When considering your safety, it's a good time to check all your windows and doors. Make sure the windows have locks and that they close securely. Add curtains or shades to any window that doesn't have them to avoid anyone keeping tabs on you. Check that your doors are secure and have them repaired or replaced if they feel anything less than solid. If you've just purchased a home, have the locks changed.

Get a Dog

You've heard it many times before, but getting a dog really is one of the best measures you can take to stay safe. Plus, they're terrific company and champion breed German Shepherd puppies will give you years of loyalty and unconditional love. This breed is highly intelligent and trainable. Unlike a security system, a dog can go almost anywhere with you, protecting you when you're out walking or in the car running errands. A dog will soon become your best friend and you'll wonder how you ever managed without one.

Add Outside Lighting

Another precaution you can take to deter anyone from lurking around your property is to implement additional outside lighting. If you have a yard, consider adding spotlights and ground lights especially in corners and darker areas. Motion sensor lights are also very effective in keeping people at bay.

Have a Lot of Company

One way to combat loneliness and feel safe is to have a lot of visitors. Encourage friends and family to come over for dinner, coffee or to just watch a movie. You'll enjoy the company and neighbors and passersby will notice a lot of traffic. This helps give the illusion that you're not alone and that there are plenty of people around you.

Get Peace of Mind

While living alone certainly has its perks, it's important to be safe. No one should have to feel anxious about their wellbeing. Things like adding more lighting, getting a dog and improving your locks will keep you secure and give you peace of mind.

Here’s How You Can Ease Stress and Improve Your Finances

Money might make the world go around, but it’s also one of the most stressful things that we need to deal with as adults. When you’re growing up as a child, you have no idea how much cash is going to affect you when you get older. Then, as soon as you start your first job, it feels like all of your time is committed to thinking about how you’re going to make your money stretch as far as possible.

The important thing to remember is that you can always find ways to reduce the amount of stress involved with managing your money. With the right attitude and a little planning, you can improve your finances and set yourself up for a brighter tomorrow. Here’s how you can get started.

Deal with the Debt Situation

People often struggle with different relationships with debt. We know that not all debt is bad for us. Sometimes, the right personal loan can help you to accomplish an important goal, like completing your online training for a new job or getting a car to take you to and from work. However, sometimes, if you don’t know how to deal with it, debt can hold you back too.

Think about how you’re going to banish unwanted debt as quickly as possible in the months and years to come. Can you consolidate old debts into a new and more affordable loan. Maybe the debt snowball method will help you to get things sorted a little faster.

Reduce Your Grocery Spending

It seems strange that we would recommend cutting the amount of money you spend on something as essential as food. However, if you look at your monthly incoming and outgoing cash, you’re likely to be blown away by how much you actually spend on groceries. A lot of the time, the problem will be that you’re not just buying the essentials, you’re grabbing snacks that you never eat, or paying for brand-name items that are just as good as the cheaper options on the shelf.

One way to reduce you’re your grocery shopping expenses is to plan your meals each week before you go shopping. Take a good look at what you’re going to need, and don’t buy anything else – no matter how tempted you are.

Stop Automatic Subscriptions and Memberships

Subscriptions and automatically renewing memberships are easy to sign up for, but difficult to cancel. If you’re using your subscription every week without fail, then there’s no problem with keeping it – as long as you can afford it. The problem is that a lot of us continue to pay for memberships that we’re not actually using just because we forget to cancel them.

For instance, maybe you signed up for a gym membership in January with every intention of going to workout every week. However, if you’ve only been to the gym once since then, maybe it’s time to rethink your strategy. Look through your bank statements and highlight any of the subscriptions you’re not using regularly.

Spend Your Extra Cash Wisely
Those moments when you end up with extra cash in your bank balance might be rare, but they’re also moments that you need to work out how to use to your advantage. Whenever you work overtime at work and get a bit of bonus income, think about how you can put it to good use by building up your emergency savings fund or getting rid of some of your extra debts. Putting your cash into savings as soon as you earn it might not seem like the most exciting thing that you can do, but it will help you to get rid of some of that pesky stress that you feel whenever you think about money.

As fun as buying a new computer game might seem right now, it won’t compare to the feeling of reassurance you get when something goes wrong with your home, and you remember that you have some extra cash in your emergency funds.

Reduce Energy Costs

Saving money on your energy bills is one of the easiest way to reduce the amount of cash that you waste each month. What’s more, the process can be as simple as just making a few basic tweaks to your regular routine. For instance, you might be able to take slightly shorter showers, or washing your clothes in cold water.

Energy efficient appliances are another excellent way to save money on your electricity if you’re thinking about upgrading anyway. Consider the benefits of spending more now to save later.

Ideas Online For Making Treadmills Quiet

Finding time to work out with the chaos of today's busy schedules can be a challenge. A majority of people spend their days in sedentary positions making a fitness regimen critical for their health and wellness. Equipment like a treadmill being readily available at home provides convenience and flexibility with exercise times. Unfortunately, if you live in an apartment or with other people, the noise produced by a treadmill can be an annoyance and a disruption to their lifestyle. Don't allow this to hinder you from your routine. Instead, take the necessary steps to silence your treadmill.

Tips To Make Treadmills Quiet

Working out is crucial for overall health and well-being, particularly with most of our time spent sitting at a computer. Going to a gym is not always feasible, so people are bringing exercise equipment such as treadmills into their homes. The problem with a treadmill is the potential for noise pollution, upsetting neighbors, or those living in the house. Fortunately, soundproofing a treadmill can resolve this issue. Read here to find out how to effectively use your treadmill upstairs.

  • Placement of a treadmill mat: The impact from running on the deck produces a majority of the sound aside from the machine's belt and the motor. Among the best techniques to eliminate the pounding of the impact is by way of insulation. Using an insulation consisting of a foam mat with appropriate thickness acts as a cushion. You'll want to research for a budget-friendly brand. These provide longevity for your treadmill, not to mention the protection your legs receive from the harm vibrations risk.
  • Belt lubrication: Regularly lubricating the treadmill belt is an excellent way to keep it soundproof. Not only does the machine make loud noises during your workout when the belt is neglected, but it causes the unit to deteriorate quickly. Maintenance should be done approximately every three months with cleaning between the belt and deck before using the oil. The cleaning eliminates all the loose debris.
  • Obtain isolation pads: The creation of these pads was specific to reducing the sound treadmills make as your feet make contact with the deck and the overall vibrations. The impact can be annoying, particularly when you live in a condo or apartment community. The pads help with soundproofing. Placement of the pads will be under each of the treadmill's corners. Make sure to check customer reviews, feedback, and complaints before buying a brand. Not all are effective. Quality is essential in maintaining your treadmill

  • Place the equipment on carpeting if possible: Amplification of noise will happen if the placement of the equipment is on a hardwood, tile, or concrete floor. If this is all you have, take the unit to a porch or in the garage. It would be a wise investment to purchase thick carpeting remnants to put under the treadmill as a means to absorb the energy and vibrations when you live in an apartment or condo. Another option would be to place it on the balcony over a rug.
  • Bearings could need replacing: If after the lubricating process, the treadmill is still loud, there could be issues with the bearings and roller. They may need replacing. Accessing to repair can be challenging with the bearings and rollers connected. If this is the cause of the problem, you have the option of attempting the change yourself or having a technician take care of it.
  • Service the machine: It's easy to neglect to service the unit when you have a lot happening. Some people forget. But regular maintenance is crucial to keep the equipment functioning optimally. It needs to have the motor cleaned, the belts lubricated, and the belts tightened consistently. These basic services will ensure longevity and save from costly repairs.

Summary

Working out on a treadmill is an ideal way to stay active, remain healthy, and get fit. The exercise can present a problem for those around you because of the sound level produced with impact, the motor, and any technical difficulties that develop. It would be best if you soundproofed the machine to keep your exercise routine peaceful. If soundproofing is not enough, you can try a quieter treadmill. Check out some of the good brands at soundproofpros.com/best-quiet-treadmills.

The equipment is always going to make some form of sound when you run or even if you walk. But a machine that has a quieter design offers features including more silent motors, tracking with padding to absorb impact, and frames with strong, rigid manufacturing. Quiet doesn't mean zero noise; it only indicates that there is less loudness than what a traditional treadmill will give you.

If you live in a condo or apartment, it may be a good idea to speak to the neighbors surrounding your unit after you have done the soundproofing to see how effective it is. And then you can make an educated decision as far as purchasing a quieter system.

Pelvic Floor Exercises

Pelvic floor exercises will help to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. These exercises are common for pregnant women or women who have given birth as these muscles come under a lot of strain. However, all women can benefit from pelvic floor exercises. If your pelvic floor has been negatively impacted due to malpractice during childbirth, then you should speak to a medical malpractice lawyer.

The pelvic floor is made up of layers of muscles that stretch from the pubic bone to the end of the backbone. When they are weak, you may leak urine, known as stress incontinence. It is very common, especially after childbirth. Luckily you can strengthen these muscles again. You can also perform these exercises before you give birth, as it will aid your healing
process after birth.

If you have any concerns about your pelvic floor, then you should speak to your doctor.

Top-tips to keep your pelvic floor strong

  • Don't go to the toilet if you don't need to, as this will train your bladder to need to urinate more often.
  • Try to empty your bladder whenever you do go to the toilet.
  • Avoid constipation by consuming lots of fiber and drinking water.
  • When going to the toilet, lean forward so that your knees are higher than your hips. You may want a step to put your feet on.
  • When urinating, relax your pelvic floor and avoid pushing too hard.

Exercises
It is good to get in the habit of doing pelvic floor exercises. However, you should take care when doing them as if you do them wrong, you could be doing more harm then good. Speak to your doctor if you have any concerns. You can also watch this video for more guidance.

  • Take a comfortable seat and lean slightly forward but keep your back straight.
  • Squeeze and lift your muscles as if you are holding in during urination.
  • Hold the squeeze and count to 8 seconds, then relax for 8 seconds. Don't worry if you can't make it to 8 seconds, just do it for as long as is comfortable.
  • Repeat 8 to 12 times.
  • Keep breathing as you exercise and try not to tighten the muscles in your bum.

Overactive pelvic floor
Some women suffer from an overactive pelvic floor, which means that you are always contracting the muscles and don't realize it. This can be caused by tension after pain or damage. This can make sex, using tampons and going to the toilet painful. It can also cause stress incontinence. If this sounds like you, then you should speak to a doctor.

If you have an overactive pelvic floor, then exercises will still help you. However, you should adjust them slightly to focus on the relaxation part. After tightening, make sure you have relaxed entirely and stay there for longer then you squeezed, around 10 seconds.

Creating a habit
In order to remember to do your pelvic floor exercises, you need to form a habit. The best way to do this is to do it at the same time you do something else. For example:

  • After going to the toilet.
  • After you wash your hands.
  • After feeding your baby.
  • When standing in line at a supermarket.

Do Carpenter Bees Cause Damage?

The carpenter bee derives its name from the fact that they burrow into hard plants, such as deadwood or even bamboo. The purpose of their burrowing is to create a nest for themselves. Interestingly, most carpenter bees are actually solitary dwellers, unlike the majority of other bee species that prefer to build nests together.

However, this doesn’t mean they are not social, while the bees create individual nests they do prefer to create nests near each other and female bees have been noted to share tunnels, especially if they are mother/daughter.

It is worth noting that carpenter bees are often confused with bumblebees as they look similar. That’s why you need to check with your local exterminator and find out more info before you tackle them.

Do They Cause Damage?

The short answer is yes. Carpenter bees create boreholes in wood, your home has plenty of wood that is attractive to them, even wood that has been treated can be attacked.

However, the carpenter bee does not eat wood, it is actually an important pollinator, the damage it does to your wood is minimal as it just creates a few tunnels for it to live in.

The problem arises because carpenter bees tend to build nests near each other and a nest is not generally reused. This means if they go unnoticed for a period of time you can end up with lots of carpenter bee nests, this is likely to weaken your wood and cause issues in your home.

Checking For Carpenter Bees

You’ll notice bees flying around, if they look like bumblebees but have shiny abdomens then they are Carpenter bees. You’ll need to look on the underside of the wood around your home, entrance holes for carpenter bees are always upward or inward and they’ll be approximately half-an-inch in diameter.

It’s worth noting that the male bee doesn’t have a stinger and it’s very rare for the female bee to sting.

Additional Damage

Carpenter bees can only cause extensive damage if you have lots of them and they are left only for an extended period of time. However, woodpeckers like to feed on these bees. Unfortunately, the woodpecker will do a lot of damage to your wood when they hammer it to access the bees.

Dealing With Carpenter Bees

The safest approach is to get the professionals to deal with the bees for you. You can try using pesticides but these are not normally very effective against Carpenter bees. This is because the bees only chew the wood to create nests unless you’re spraying every day the bees probably won’t ingest enough pesticide to kill them.

The simplest approach is to spray insecticide directly into the holes every day, this is time-consuming but ultimately effective. You can also replace wood with a composite material that won’t attract the bees, although this will depend on which part of your home is affected. Replacing structural timbers is much more difficult than replacing a porch railing.

Compression leggings keep your legs healthy

Your body changes through the three trimesters of pregnancy, growing gradually as the baby becomes bigger. The pressure on the legs and veins increases as you gain weight with the progression of pregnancy. So the second trimester is the ideal time to start wearing compression stockings as noticeable signs of blood stagnation may start appearing as early as the fourth month into pregnancy. Subsequently, you may experience constant fatigue, visible swelling in the lower legs and ankles and even pulling sensations in the calf area. Regular use of compression socks can prevent these signs from aggravating and leading to varicose veins.

Know when and how to wear compression leggings

Experts recommend that pregnant women should wear this garment first thing in the morning, even before stepping out of the bed and take them off only when they retire for the night. Obviously, you will have to take them off while showering and swimming but wearing them through the day can keep problems such as edema at bay. Avoid taking the leggings off and wearing them back time and again because your legs tend to get swollen once you take them off and you will probably not get a good fit. Why compromise with the comfort with a good fit only, when you can buy Best Maternity Compression Leggings that always fit perfectly and offer ample support for all-day wear during pregnancy? For women approaching the end of pregnancy, it is best to seek the help of your partner or family member to wear the leggings as it may get increasingly difficult to wear them on your own.

Wear them if you have to stand or sit for prolonged periods

Though maternity compression leggings are beneficial for all pregnant women, they are all the more essential for the ones who need to stand or sit for prolonged periods. Whether you lead a sedentary lifestyle or spend most of your time on your feet, you must absolutely invest in this garment. If you plan to travel long distances during pregnancy, don’t miss wearing compression leggings because you will have to sit for hours during the journey. Sitting for long hours increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis, which is the last thing you would want to happen during pregnancy.

Now that you probably have answers to all your questions related to wearing maternity compression leggings during pregnancy, it is time to buy a pair or two. Quality leggings will definitely keep you comfortable and your legs healthy as you cruise through this amazing journey.
