How to Reframe Common Words and Phrases That Can Be Harmful to Others

I had this crazy idea recently that I will start writing and sharing more on my blog. It won't always be themed or professionally laid out, but it will be honest and real. Do you ever think about the true power of words? I am no expert when it comes to writing and language, but I do use common sense when I say or write certain words. There are so many times that family members, friends or acquaintances say words that really make me cringe. If you are a product of any type of childhood abuse or abuse in general, some words can be particularly triggering, and can bring up negative feelings or thoughts. Some words may seem so common and innocent when in fact they are quite harmful. I am writing this post not as an attack on anyone, but simply as a tool to maybe help others see how their use of words can be hurting others without knowing it.

Some words and phrases to consider using an alternate for:

  • Hate. Hate is such a harsh and unnecessary word in my opinion. I heard it so much in my household growing up, but I will spare you the details. You have to really have some deep-rooted issues if you throw this word around on the daily. I see folks online commenting on a food photo and say oh I hate broccoli or whatever the food is. I see it when they complain about celebrities they don't care for. Saying you hate them is so unneeded. Maybe keep scrolling or if you are asked your opinion you can simply say you do not care for that person or they are not your cup of tea. Doesn't that sound better? Some alternate words or phrases you can use are: dislike, not my thing, not a fan, or even have a distaste for. There are definitely more things you can say, but it is ultimately your choice.
  • Kill. This word really has an effect on me personally. I have been told by family members in the past I will kill you if you do so and so, and it stayed with me my whole life. That is not something anyone should say to another person or even joke about. Saying oh he/she/they might kill or murder you if you do that is horrible. What is the purpose of even saying something like that? I believe that you can speak to someone regularly, and not know some of the details of their past that with one word, you can put them in a bad headspace. I have seen some friends online post about someone who might have taken their life, and they use the term unalive or unalived themselves. While that might be an odd word, it sure beats using kill or killed.

Two common words that people often use with a negative connotation are "problem" and "fail." Here are alternative words that can convey a similar meaning but with a more positive or neutral tone:

Instead of "problem," you can use:
  • Challenge
  • Issue
  • Opportunity
  • Difficulty
  • Obstacle
Instead of "fail," you can use:
  • Learn
  • Experience setback
  • Encounter difficulties
  • Fall short
  • Not succeed

There are so many other words I could mention in this post, but I will choose to stop here. At the end of the day, we all have choices in how we speak to others whether it is casually, professionally or online. I choose to speak in a more positive tone and prefer to spread joy and love. I know we are all wired differently, but I challenge you to take an extra moment to think before you speak or write. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading this today. It means a lot. <3

Simple Things You Can Do To Relax

I don't know about you, but I have a very hard time relaxing. I can't understand why it is, but I have been this way since I was a kid. If you are a mom with a lot on your plate, you might also have a hard time trying to relax. I have tried pretty much everything I have read about or researched online, and only a handful of things seem to do the trick for me. Check out my list below.

Gardening & Houseplant Care

Gardening has really been a great activity that helps to calm my mind, while giving my body a great workout. Even the act of repotting a plant gives me such a sense of peace and enjoyment. I have about 30 houseplants all over my home. Each day I start by checking the leaves, and watering and spritzing as as needed. It's really such a peaceful way to start my day.

Doing Jigsaw Puzzles

While this might seem like an old lady type of activity, it is actually very relaxing. I keep a card table set up in my living area that we keep for doing puzzles or playing board or card games. Sometimes other family members will join in to do a puzzle together and it's a great time for casual conversation and a lot of laughs.

Playing Solitaire and other Online Games

I have been playing solitaire on my laptop for several years now. I don't know what it is, but I feel so relaxed and at peace while I am playing. Sometimes I play while streaming one of my favorite comfort shows on Hulu or Netflix. I like challenging myself to try and beat my best score. Solitaire is like a brain bender and brain break all in one. I can say that I definitely get a lot of enjoyment out of a classic game of solitaire. I always find myself saying, "Just one more game!"

I recently discovered another fun online game that involves finding hidden objects in a garden. It's right up my alley!

Doing House Chores

Yeah, I know it might sound crazy, but cleaning and laundry work so well to calm my nerves. There is a a lot of satisfaction (at least for me) in folding and putting away a fresh load of laundry, hand-washing a sink full of dishes, or even bleaching down my kitchen countertops at night. Who doesn't appreciate a fresh-smelling home?

Getting Outdoors

Sometimes a little sunshine and fresh air does the trick. Whether I am lounging on my back porch or taking a drive with the sunroof open and the windows down, being outside can definitely relax me. It's even better when the weather is more fall-like. I could sit outside for hours and do some birdwatching or just listen to the sounds of nature all around me. My favorite outdoor space outside of my own back yard is definitely the beach. How can you not be relaxed by the sounds of the waves crashing into the shore while breathing in that delicious salty air? Ahh!

Now that I have shared some tips on how I relax, I want to hear from you. What do you do to relax?

How to Create a Morning Routine

Whether you wake up refreshed and relaxed as you start the day or jump out of bed when the alarm hits and rush to make the bus, mornings are important to everyone. This is where you’ll set the tone for the rest of your day. A few simple changes to your routine can make you much more productive.

The best way to have a productive morning is to have a morning routine. No matter how well you sleep, the odds are you’ll be a little groggy when you wake up. It’s easy to lose track of time when your brain is having a hard time getting out of sleep mode. There are a few simple ways get your day off on the right foot with some organization in your routine.

Plan Ahead of Time

Unfortunately, most people are still tired when they wake up. That makes the morning the worst time to plan out how to change your morning routine. Fortunately, you can set yourself up for success before you go to bed every day—starting with your alarm clock. Make sure you have a couple of alarms set, including some that aren’t hooked up to the same system, and set them up to recur if you sleep through one.

What do you need to get your day off to the right start? Lay those items out before you go to bed. This should include anything you need for work or school, especially if you plan to make some changes to your overall routine. You don’t want to be thrown off and forget a necessary item because you were focusing on something new. You can also save time each morning by laying out your clothing once you decide on the next day’s attire.

Start Small

You may be thinking, “How do I organize a complex routine when I’ve just woken up?” The good news is, a morning routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Just work in a few changes to your day to help you use your time better, and don’t be afraid to use reminders until you get the hang of things. A few post-it notes you’ll see when you wake up can work wonders.

You can also start slowly by working on changes one at a time. Five minutes of meditation to clear your head can make a big difference, as can a quick walk to get some exercise in. You can make some changes to your breakfast to get the day off to a healthy start or incorporate some gummy vitamins into your diet to make sure you’re getting essential nutrients.

If you’re worried you don’t have enough time to make these changes, it might be worth tweaking that alarm clock. Getting up only half an hour early can transform your whole morning routine. It may take a few tries to figure out the optimal time to get up, and if you need to adjust your nighttime routine a bit to go with it.

Make Adjustments Along the Way

The good thing about routines is, they’re meant to be changed. The same routine won’t work for everyone, and the best way to figure out the right morning routine for you is through trial and error. Maybe your current wake-up time isn't leaving you enough time to get everything done, or you feel like you need an extra boost from a dietary supplement like Morning Complete to increase your energy levels before you leave the house. Everyone needs something different to get their day off on the right foot. Don’t be afraid to change something if it doesn’t seem to help or if it’s tough to remember—it’s probably a hint that it’s not helping your morning routine. Trying out a new positive habit is a better idea than trying to make a change stick when it’s not working.

It can take a while to acclimate to a new routine, and don’t feel like you’re failing something if it takes you a little longer. It can take the average person about six days to form a regular habit, and there are some ways to make it easier. To make a habit stick, try to associate it with something you look forward to.

Are you trying to remember to take those new vitamins? Pair them with your favorite breakfast food. Positive associations get rooted in the brain much faster than other patterns.

Supercharge Your Mornings

Every morning is a fresh start, and that means another chance to find the morning routine that works for you. Take note of everything that is working and what seems to be slowing you down, and work each day’s experiments into your next attempt. You’ll find mornings become more and more inviting each day.

4 Strategies for Staying Healthy This Summer

With Summer just around the corner, it is important to keep the health of you and your family top of mind. Whether you are staying home all summer or looking to take a trip, knowing how to create and maintain some healthy habits is crucial. Here are some ways to keep you and your loved ones happy and healthy this summer.

Stay hydrated

With the summer heat building up during these longer days, it is important to keep yourself hydrated. Suffering from dehydration can lead to health problems like headaches, fainting, and even heat stroke. Keeping a reusable water bottle with you at all times can ensure you are drinking enough water daily. If you have children that struggle with picky eating habits and who hate the taste of plain water, consider infusing it with some of their favorite fruits. Using strawberries or lemons can give the water a fresh taste and encourage them to drink more!

Keep protected

Having fun in the sun is a great way to stay active and curate some healthy habits. Going to the beach, taking a hike, or any outdoor activity is great for getting the right amount of exercise. When you are outdoors it is incredibly important to keep yourself protected from the sun. Having a strong and dependable sunscreen will keep you and your family safe from the dangers of sun exposure. Too much sun can lead to conditions like sunburn, sun poisoning, and sunstroke. While wearing accessories like hats can also help create a barrier between you and the sun, you should be vigilant with applying and reapplying sunscreen.

Be prepared

With summer being the perfect time for spontaneity, it is essential to have a go-bag prepped in advance with the little things you might normally forget on a trip. Having this bag ready will help you cover your bases and decrease the stress of forgetting important items on your journey. Include the things you and your family will most certainly need, like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap—any and all of your basic hygiene items are generally necessities for a trip.

Also be sure to include a stocked first aid kit that makes sense for you and your family’s needs. If anyone suffers from severe or life threatening allergies, you should pack an EpiPen to be safe.  Similarly, if you or a loved one has vision issues you should make sure you include prescription contacts in the kit. Having a fresh pair of contacts available can save you if you lose or break your glasses and can’t immediately replace them. Being prepared for any scenario will help keep you and your family safe this summer wherever you are.

Practice self-care

Taking care of your health is more than taking care of just your physical health; your mental health is a large component of your overall wellness. After all of the changes 2020 brought, the world opening up can cause a great deal of anxiety for those who haven’t experienced the hustle of crowds in a long time. Make sure you make time to practice self-care in whatever way you need to keep your mental health in check. This could include taking walks alone, picking up a journal, or spending time meditating. Talking as a family about how to combat any anxieties you may be facing can be a great way to keep the lines of communication open about mental health as well.

Keeping up with healthy habits is a great way to maintain a positive lifestyle this summer. As a family, it is important to work together and help each other stay as happy and healthy as possible.

Things You Should Know Before Taking a Water Pill to Lower Blood Pressure

A few months ago, I went for a follow-up appointment with my physician in regards to my elevated blood pressure. It has been trending to be way too high for close to a year now. We discussed how dangerous it can be, and it would be in my best interest to bring it down with the help of medication. We went over my options that were most suitable for my age, gender and race. I opted to go with the water pill since it had the least side effects. The most common issues that come with them is frequent urination. I figured I could live with it since I am home all the time anyway.

I took the water pills for 2 months and everything was fine for the first 6 weeks. I felt no different, but unfortunately my BP wasn't necessarily going down by much. I had a few days where it was perfect, but most days it was still elevated. I noticed a few weeks ago that my arms started to turn red and tiny little bumps appeared out of nowhere. I remembered going out to work in my garden, but did so when it was in the cooler part of the day. This was nothing outside of the norm for me. I don't get a sunburn easily at all. I started going through every possible thing that was different in my daily routine, and if I was eating anything different or using anything new. Nothing had changed as far as I could think.

After doing some research, it turned out that I have a sun rash. It became pretty irritated and appeared on my chest area and lower arms, right where a t-shirt would cut off. I have never had any issues with the sun before, and luckily I wear a face moisturizer with SPF every day, so my face was not affected. It got to a point to where it felt a bit feverish and swollen in some areas, and I had to resist the urge to scratch.  As I got deeper into researching what caused it, it turned out that a water pill (diuretics) is the top medication that can cause it. That explained everything! Once I figured all of this out, I stopped taking the water pill and oddly enough, my BP levels have somewhat come down and are closer to normal, but still needs to be lower.

I have another follow-up appointment in July and I will decide if I will need to try another medication. The rash has completely gone away, and I am able to go outside without any issues.  If you do get a sun rash, the best way to heal it is to use cortizone cream, avoid using scented products, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and avoid sun exposure as much as possible. If you do need to go outside, be sure to wear sunscreen and a light-colored long-sleeve shirt. If you can't deal with the itchiness, Benadryl will help. It took me a solid 2 weeks to get it completely healed up. I can't imagine staying on the water pill and not being able to be outdoors. No way! I wanted to share this information in the event anyone has considering going on a water pill to lower blood pressure. Thank you for stopping by today!

4 Beauty Tips to Try For Better Health

As the holidays approach us, life can feel a bit hectic. It’s hard to find time for self-care when you’re juggling family obligations, your work schedule, and coordinating holiday gifts. Beauty starts with a healthy body, and that means nourishing yourself inside and out.

Here are four fabulous beauty tips to help you look and feel your best all season long!

#1 Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

If you live in a cold climate, you know that winter means dry skin and hair. Give your skin some love, and make moisturizing part of your daily routine.

For sensitive skin, use gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizers for hydration. If you’re extra dry and in need of deeper hydration, treat yourself to a revitalizing face mask.

Part of an effective skincare routine is exfoliation. Make homemade sugar scrubs or use a pumice stone to remove layers of dead skin. You only need to devote a few minutes a day for glowing, vibrant, skin.

#2 Turn Down the Heat

Blow drying, straightening, and curling are all highly dehydrating for your hair. If you suffer from a dry scalp and brittle hair, it’s time to revamp your hair-care regimen.

Here are a few tips for luscious locks all winter long:

  • Take Cooler Showers – Although hot showers are comforting, dousing your hair with hot water is extremely dehydrating. When you wash your hair, turn down the heat a little to nourish your scalp.

  • Go Easy on the Products – Dry shampoos and hairsprays, although incredibly useful, may increase scalp irritation and dryness. Try to use these products in moderation and go au naturel for a change.

  • Use Moisturizing Oils – It might feel counter-intuitive to put oil in your hair, but this is a great way to introduce some moisture into lackluster hair. Jojoba or almond oils are versatile and give hair a healthy shine when massaged into your ends.

#3 Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is the secret to radiant beauty and excellent health. When you’re well-rested, your skin will be fresh, your eyes bright, and your demeanor relaxed and focused.

We know sleep can be hard to come by, especially when your schedule is overloaded. To relax, draw a bath before bed and add soothing lavender essential oil.

For extra comfort and relaxation, take a vegan CBD tincture before bed. CBD reduces anxiety and diminishes aches and pains. This will help you get the restful night’s sleep you need (and deserve) to feel your best.

#4 Use Natural Makeup

Instead of using chemical-heavy makeup, opt for natural alternatives. This will give your skin a much-needed break, and add glamour to your everyday style

Above all, embrace your natural beauty. Remember, makeup should enhance your natural elegance, and you don’t need to apply layers of makeup to look beautiful.

Love Your Body

We can’t say it enough—wellness begins with self-love. Drink plenty of water. Meditate. Spend quality time with your family. Reflect on everything that makes you beautiful, as those are the same reasons why you’re unique.

When you love your body, you love yourself. Incorporate these tips into your beauty routine and remember that it’s okay if everything isn’t perfect. Wellness is a journey, and with a few simple lifestyle changes, you can make the world of difference.

Health Benefits of Dark Chocolate

Chocolate lovers all around get a natural high when we indulge in chocolate. Whether it is white chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate, we naturally would be in paradise even after enduring a stressful day due to eating or drinking chocolate.

And even if we start to feel guilty for enjoying chocolate a little too much, we shouldn't feel too guilty. We should watch out for excessive sugar consumption. However, there are also some health benefits when it comes to chocolates, especially dark chocolate.

Chocolate experts can tell you the details about the health benefits, and they are the ultimate creators of different, delicious types of chocolate. They also know that dark chocolate reigns supreme when it comes to health benefits.

The Health Benefits of Dark Chocolate

According to the Department of Agriculture, the typical size bar of dark chocolate with 70 to 85 percent cacao has approximately 24 grams of sugar and 600 calories. It is also high in antioxidants. Since dark chocolate has significantly more cocoa solids than other types of chocolate, it is an indicator of how much more dietary flavonoids it has.

Flavonoids are also in certain drinks, vegetables, and fruits. Additionally, more dietary flavonoids consumption links to a lower propensity for coronary heart disease.

In addition to health-promoting flavonol phytonutrients, dark chocolate has the most antioxidants than milk chocolate. We can benefit the most from cacao beans when choosing cocoa powder due to having no sugar or fat. Consuming cocoa products is linked to a lower risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease. We can boost our immune functions and HDL levels. We can significantly boost our arterial functions within hours or consuming only one teaspoon of cocoa. Cocoa consumption improves the veins' ability in the eyes to dilate, assists in opening up coronary arteries, leads to improving peripheral artery disease, improves blood flow to the kidneys, and combats the effects of aging.  When it comes to dark chocolate, we usually can find dark chocolate that contains approximately 50% cocoa to 100%. Most brands have 90%, 85%, or 70% cocoa.

There are also some neuroprotective benefits that come from flavanols. Thus, consumers of dark chocolate can have some protection against diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and it can provide an anti-inflammatory effect for digestive problems, such as inflammatory bowel disease. Dark chocolate is also naturally high in magnesium, iron, manganese, and copper.

Chocolate lovers can buy chocolate online Canada to satisfy their sweet tooths or locate a thoughtful gift for a loved one.

How a Simple Facial Benefits Your Skin

Keeping your skin healthy requires a bit of work. Of course, you should use a high-quality moisturizer each day and sunscreen of at least 15 SPF. You also need to cleanse your face daily. The things you do on a monthly basis matter, too. Once per month, you should visit a Spokane facial spa for a complete facial. This addition to your skincare routine provides deep cleaning and specialized skin treatments that improve the skin’s health.

The term facial refers to a skin treatment comprised of multiple steps and multiple skin treatments. It usually includes:

  • steam to open pores,
  • face masks to treat special problems such as acne or wrinkles,
  • exfoliation to remove dead skin,
  • cleansing to deeply clean the skin,
  • facial massage to stimulate proper blood flow,
  • application of creams, lotions, or serums to treat the skin’s special problems.

You could go in for a general facial, but your skin will benefit the most by choosing a special treatment that hones in on the special skin problem and provides it with a focused treatment. Some options include moisturizing facials, firming and restoration facials, and extraction facials. If you are interested in exploring the benefits of getting a facial and finding out what treatments might work for you, you should start by searching online for a reputable aesthetician in your area. For example, if you are based in Pennsylvania, you can search "facial near me in Harrisburg, PA" to find the best facial offerings in and around Harrisburg. You should always book a consultation before getting any full facial treatments.

A facial removes dirt, toxins, and oil buildup from your skin. It removes dead skin cells through deep exfoliation methods like microdermabrasion. By unclogging your skin’s pores, the facial products can better absorb into the skin to do their job. Undergoing an extraction facial removes blackheads and whiteheads plus treats pimples to quickly clean up breakout and prevent new ones. An anti-aging facial slows down the skin’s aging process and prevents wrinkles. This includes a facial massage that results in increased oxygen flow and blood circulation plus professional level anti-aging creams and serums to deeply penetrate the skin and result in a visible difference as well as enhancing elasticity and collagen production.

The best facials come from a trained aesthetician, a professional who undergoes training in how to apply facial products and treatments and how to best perform facial massage. An aesthetician can analyze your skin and recommend a daily skincare routine that also benefits your skin. During the process of these monthly treatments, the aesthetician examines your skin for suspicious spots and moles. They alert you to any problems found.

Facials help with more than common problems like acne and wrinkles. You can also get a facial that helps treat problems like sun spots, sun damage, rosacea, and eczema.

While a facial might sound like something only for the wealthy, it remains an affordable service at most spas and helps improve your skin’s look and health. That makes it more than simply an occasional treat, but an imperative part of a healthy skincare routine. Every four to six weeks, you should undergo a facial. While you can do a mini-facial at home in between visits, your aesthetician provides important advice, tips, and services that go beyond what you can do yourself. Their special training makes them especially adept at noticing skin changes that could point to a more serious issue such as skin cancer.

Perks of Being the Designated Driver

When a group is getting together to drink, it's important to determine a designated driver before the party starts. Many people see the designated driver as the unlucky one — the person who has to sit the night out and babysit. This is not the case. Being your group's driver has some hidden perks and you can have just as much fun — if not more — as everybody else.

Free Beverages

Any responsible drinker understands DUI laws and knows how important designated drivers are, and many venues show their appreciation for this role by providing free soda or coffee. Be sure to mention to the bartender or server that you are the driver when ordering your soda. If the bar or restaurant doesn't provide this for you, there's a good chance your friends will — after all, you're the linchpin of the party.

Timeless Photos

When you are helping your friends get around safely, you have a very unique position: you're the sober one. That may seem obvious, but being the sober person in the group means you're seeing things in a way the others aren't. Keep your camera at the ready, because your friends are bound to do something that will be worth laughing at once they sober up. When done in good fun, these photos can become an expected tradition within the group — whoever drives can also be expected to document the night's high jinks.

Avoiding Regrets

In vino veritas (Latin for "in wine, there is truth"), but in soberness, there is discretion. Throughout history, people have woken up the next morning only to find out the may have said something they had intended to keep to themselves. Making sure you're in full control of what you say or do is especially valuable if you are around people you may have something to say that you'd rather keep as an internal dialogue.

Speaking of waking up the next morning, if you don't drink, you can't have a hangover. This is particularly valuable if the party is part of an important event, such as the night before a wedding.

Calling the Shots

Perhaps one of the better parts of taking on the role of the driver is that you become the decision-maker. You get to decide how many stops will be made, what music you listen to in the car and where you'll eat. Your car; your rules.

Maybe best of all, when you decide you're done and want to go home, the others either have to leave when you decide to leave or pay for a cab. If any member of the group is not coming home with you for whatever reason, it is your job to ensure they have a safe ride home secured before you separate.

Being the designated driver is much more than being the person who can't drink. You'll not only create good memories by staying sober, but you'll also show your friends you care about them and want them to have a good time. The driver's job is to make sure everyone is safe, and by no means does that mean sitting the night out.

Why You Need to Take Care of Your Scalp

Most of us take good care of our hair. We wash it using expensive products and go to the hairdressers every few weeks. Yet, few of us realize the importance of taking care of our scalp as well.

There are several reasons you need to make using a scalp cleanser a regular part of your personal care regime. Below, are the most important of them.

Your hair will suffer if your scalp is not in good condition

Every hair on your head starts life under your scalp in the hair follicles. So, naturally, if your scalp is not in a healthy condition it is practically impossible for strong hairs to be formed.

Scalp issues can cause you to go bald prematurely

If some of your hair follicles are covered by scabs they will not be able to function properly. This can lead to sparse hair growth. Over time, things can worsen to the point where you end up with actual bald patches.

An unhealthy scalp can lead to fungal infections

Some scalp conditions are caused by fungal infections. Usually, the infection will stay confined to that area of your body. But when you scratch your head, which you are likely to do quite a bit, there is a chance that the fungus can spread to other areas of your skin.

An unhealthy scalp can harbor bacteria

Some scalp conditions can lead to bacterial infections. Again, it is possible to spread these to other areas of the body by scratching then touching an open cut.

You can end up with greasy hair

Lipids are important compounds that your body uses to build new strands. Your body knows how much is needed to keep your hair looking healthy, so it sends the right level of fatty acids to your scalp to achieve the desired result. If some of your follicles are blocked you end up with too much of these lipids being sent to the other hairs. This is one of the underlying causes of greasy hair. You can read about more of them here.

Having an itchy sore scalp is uncomfortable

Lastly, if your scalp is in poor condition, it will be itchy maybe sore, which is extremely uncomfortable. Nobody wants to be constantly scratching their head.

How to look after your scalp

Fortunately, it is not that difficult to keep your scalp in good condition. Get into the habit of using a scalp serum. These products are designed to nourish the area and kill off the most common funguses and bacteria that can make a home there.

Why you need to spot and tackle problems early

If you are not in the habit of actively checking your scalp, it is a good idea to start to do so. The faster you spot and address any problems you find, the better. Once you develop an issue with your scalp, treating it becomes difficult because your hair makes it almost impossible to apply enough topical creams and lotions to the right area.

3 Ways To Fight Brain Fog

Do you ever feel like you are walking around in a daze, or cannot keep your mind focused on the task at hand? Do you feel like you are not as mentally sharp as you used to be? If you answered yes, you are not alone. Many people suffer from what has come to be known as brain fog. Brain fog can describe a person who is experiencing decreased concentration, diminished memory, insufficient focus, or overall weakened mental clarity. It can be linked to a myriad of causes and affect important areas of your life, such as your job, schoolwork, or relationships. Although there are life changes that you can make to help decrease these symptoms, you might find it helpful to take supplements for mental clarity for a jump start to help the fog lift.

It cannot be said enough how important getting adequate sleep is for your overall health. Proper sleep is a cornerstone for all the other healthy habits you strive to maintain and is critical for your brain to function at its best. it is easy to identify the physical struggle that comes from a lack of sleep, such as not having the energy to exercise, or having that overwhelming urge to take a nap in the middle of the workday. Other symptoms may not be as easy to recognize.

When you are overtired, you can experience a rise in depression and a decrease in good mental health. When your mind is so busy battling negative thoughts and feelings, you lose some of your mental bandwidth needed to deal with the life that is in front of you. Lack of sleep can also affect your blood sugar level. When your blood sugar level is too low, you can experience extreme lethargy that paralyzes you to the point of not even wanting to move, and your ability to think becomes fuzzy and unclear.

Eat Healthy

Proper nutrition is very important for your mental health. You would not purposely put bad gasoline in your car because it would negatively affect the car's performance. Treat your body the same way. Ensure that you are regularly consuming foods that contain vitamins and nutrients that are especially good for brain support, such as Omega-3 fatty acids

Train Your Brain

Being able to relax and de-stress is important for good mental health. Your life might be similar to that of many people who have full daily schedules and find it hard to keep up with a growing to-do list. Sometimes participating in a rather mindless activity, such as watching TV or scrolling through social media, is exactly what you need. Strive to also spend time regularly engaged in hobbies or projects that will tax your brain. You can try doing crossword or jigsaw puzzles, learning a new style of dance, or using your non-dominant hand to do things like brush your teeth.

You are likely bombarded with stressors and activities every day that compete for your attention and can clutter your mind. Put up your best defense against brain fog by sleeping well, choosing healthy foods and supplements, and engaging in mind sharpening activities.

How To Grow a First Aid Kit

The best first aid kits are the ones you grow yourself! The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids Volume 8 shares how to grow an aloe vera plant, which has long been used for its healing properties.

Ancient Egyptians called it the “plant of immortality” and early Native American tribes called it “wand of heaven,” but we call it aloe vera. Originally grown in southern Africa, aloe vera is a succulent. Its leaves are full of healing substances that have been used medicinally for at least 6,000 years.

Aloe vera is an easy-to-grow houseplant. Here are the few steps needed:

  • Plant it in good potting soil (soil made for cacti is perfect).
  • Set it in a sunny spot.
  • Water about every 3 weeks and even less during winter.
  • Push your finger into the soil to test for dryness. You want the soil to dry at least 1 to 2 inches deep before watering.

Using the leaf straight from the plant is the best way to get aloe’s healing properties. The gel can help to heal and ease the pain of burns, bruises, boils, canker sores, and chapped lips. It may also lessen symptoms of acne. For aloe relief:

  • Remove one of the sword-like leaves from a living plant and open it along its length. Then either squeeze out the gel and apply it where relief is needed or lay the entire opened leaf side directly over the affected area and then bandage it lightly in place.
  • Remove a leaf from an aloe plant. Cut open the leaf and use a spoon to scrape out the clear gel. Put the gel pieces into a blender and pulse several times, until the aloe is liquid. Pour the gel into clean ice cube trays and place in freezer. To use, remove an aloe cube and apply to sunburned skin, bug bites, poison ivy rash, or any other ailment that requires relief.

  • To condition hair and leave it healthy-looking and shiny, scrape some gel out of the leaves and massage it into your hair. Wait for about 5 minutes, then rinse it out with warm or cold water.
  • To use aloe as a skin moisturizer, just scoop out the gel or rub a freshly cut leaf over your skin and let it dry.

Why Get CBD Oil For Stress

Lots of people around the world experience stress for a variety of reasons. Some may find their jobs too much to handle, and others are not happy with the way things are going.
There are chances that you may be one of the people who have chronic stress. Whether it’s in the form of an outburst from your boss or the millionth time your annoying mother-in-law stresses you out, it’s time for you to have the relaxation that you need.

Know that too much stress can affect your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Some of the symptoms that may appear include headaches, loss of appetite, insomnia, chest pains, and high blood pressure. You can know more about headaches that came from tension here: The solution for many people is Prozac or Xanax. But why go to the extreme side of medication when you can relieve the pain from stress in a more natural way?

CBD and Cannabis

You may want to learn more about CBD or cannabidiol oil that came from the hemp plant. Although hemp is a cousin of cannabis, you need not worry as there are no psychoactive effects after taking the oil. The plant Cannabis sativa has over a hundred different strains, and cannabidiol is one of them.

The extracts of pure CBD are commonly taken in the stalks, flowers, and leaves. They are extracted using CO2 or other methods, and they are separated from the cannabis. The extracts look like little crystals at room temperature.

Does the Product Make You High?

Many people argue that instead of using CBD, they might as well smoke weed to relieve their stress. But this should not be the case. One of the most well-known compounds in marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC that alters the mind. Users of the oil do not get affected psychologically by hemp because the THC in CBD is non-existent and, in some, less than 0.3%. This is opposed to the more than 30% THC content that marijuana has.

Note that both THC and CBD can bind with the brain’s special receptors. The difference is that CBD can directly alter the receptors by linking into them while THC can’t do this. When you are stressed, you may feel a little fuzzy when you take the oil, but you will eventually feel less anxious. Your body will become more relaxed and comfortable. Some users were able to think of solutions to their problems while they are in a calmer state of mind.

Stress and CBD

Stress can become cumbersome and can severely impact the quality of your life. You may not feel like socializing, and the feelings may keep you from living the optimum lifestyle that you deserve. The good news is that studies have backed the positive effects of CBD to stress.

Some of the studies included people with anxiety showed that the oil significantly reduced their stress levels. The brain was able to convert the situation from a threatening state to a less anxious environment. The scans showed that there were also noted changes in several regions of the brain, usually associated with anxiety.

There’s another study done in 2014 that found out that the oil can have antidepressant side effects. Most of the studies involving this were on animals, but the results were promising. Many of the rats were able to reduce their social anxieties.

Others were able to conduct further research on cannabidiol as a treatment for many anxiety disorders. Some of the most common psychological disorders of people worldwide are OCD, PTSD, and SAD. These are all forms of illnesses that need addressing, and the people who have them were able to find relief while taking the oil.

Now, this does not mean that you need to have a disorder to take CBD oil. Note that the oil is for everyone, and even healthy people can benefit from taking a teaspoonful of this miracle oil. You can visit this page for other options and products that you can take aside from the oil. If you are feeling stressed, you can lessen your burdens by reducing anxiety levels in your brain. You can also become more active by exercising and getting plenty of sleep at night to combat stress.

There are other benefits of cannabidiol for humans. In clinical trials, an increase in mental sedation and decreased anxiety levels are noted by researchers. Higher doses can be useful for treating insomnia, social anxiety disorder, and even epilepsy.

Is the Oil Legal?

However, note that the world of hemp is still a gray area in many states. The legality of marijuana is still debatable. But the good news is that you can buy hemp without any problems. Many pharmacies offer over the counter CBD oil and other products that can benefit you. You can do your research and find out where the legit suppliers are to ensure that the product is safe.

Do You Need Invisalign? Find Out With Our Guide

Everyone looks better when they are smiling. Besides, happiness is contagious and people love to be around others that can make them feel happy with just a smile. However, people that have crooked teeth are more reluctant to smile and have a higher chance of developing gum disease and tooth decay. This is where Invisalign comes into place. It has made it a lot easier to fix teeth alignment issues. Invisalign is used by over 4 million Americans and Canadians to improve their smile.

So What Is Invisalign?
In the simplest of words, Invisalign is a treatment that makes use of clear plastic aligners for slowly shifting your teeth towards their correction position. The Invisalign aligners fit perfectly over your teeth as they are made of durable plastic and are molded to fit your mouth. Several sets of aligners will be provided by the dentist to straighten the teeth. They will be changed every two weeks as your smile starts to slowly straighten. Generally, the dentist will provide 18 to 30 aligners in total depending on how much shifting your teeth require.

Should You Choose Invisalign?
Invisalign is an excellent choice for patients that have mild teeth alignment issues. It corrects a wide range of issues as mentioned below.
●      Overbite
●      Open bite
●      Underbite
●      Gapped teeth
●      Cross bite
●      Over jet
●      Crowded teeth
●      Crooked teeth

The dentist would evaluate your teeth to determine if Invisalign is the right choice for you. Although Invisalign is perfect for many patients, it might not be the best decision for patients that have dental bridges, dental implants or dentures, and untreated periodontal disease.

How Does Invisalign Work?
When you first consult with the dentist, he or she would create a customized Invisalign treatment plan for you keeping your needs in mind. It will help you achieve what you desire. A 3D image of your teeth would be taken by the orthodontist to assess the underlying condition of the teeth. It will allow the orthodontist to evaluate the extent of the alignment issues.

The dentist would create a customized treatment plan based on the data. It is during this time that you would find out how many sets of aligners will be needed.
Typically, you will need to wear the aligners for 2 weeks before you can wear the next set. It will help your teeth slowly shift with each new set. This, your teeth will move towards the ideal position. You will need to wear the aligners for about 20 to 22 hours every day to achieve the best results.

What Are the Different Types of Invisalign?
There are many different types of Invisalign that are available. Each type of Invisalign is exclusively designed for addressing different issues and is used by a different age group. At present, Invisalign is available as below.
●       Invisalign Teen
●       Invisalign Go
●       Invisalign Lite
●       Invisalign i7
●       Invisalign Express
●       Invisalign Full

What Makes Invisalign Different From Traditional Braces?
Invisalign functions similar to traditional braces as it shifts the misaligned teeth slowly towards their ideal position. But, traditional braces have to be tightened and adjusted regularly by the dentist, whereas Invisalign aligners are simply switched for the next set.

Moreover, Invisalign and traditional braces use different materials. Traditional braces use rubber bands and metal wires. They have to be cemented on the front of the teeth to ensure correct alignment is achieved. Therefore, traditional braces are difficult to clean and visible. On the other hand, Invisalign is invisible and the aligners can be easily removed. There is no need to make any changes to your diet or oral hygiene routine when you opt for Invisalign. This makes it a better option for people that have minor alignment issues and need to wear them for a shorter period. As for traditional braces, they take about 18 months to correct severe alignment issues at most, whereas Invisalign would take about 9 to 12 months for the same results. If patients only require minor adjustments, they can achieve the desired results in just 2 months.

How Much Will Invisalign Cost You?
The cost of an Invisalign treatment is based on a few factors such as the number of aligners required. Since most insurance companies do not distinguish between Invisalign and most orthodontic treatments such as braces, if you have a plan that covers orthodontic treatments, it should also cover Invisalign. Moreover, you can always consult with a dentist to know your options.

Healthy Ways Today’s Women Can Deal With Stress

According to the American Psychological Association, women are more likely to experience stress than men and less likely to feel confident in their ability to manage it. Another study published in the Journal of Brain & Behavior found that women are twice as likely than men to suffer from severe anxiety and stress. Dealing with that stress can be very complex, especially when it affects other areas of the body.

Stress that comes as a result of a physical accident can be deeply compounding. For example, if you were to get into a car accident, the stress associated with the healing process and figuring out your financial situation can make the issue worse. According to the Barnes Firm, a team of California injury lawyers, taking action towards getting a fair treatment can help you deal with a stressful situation. It’s not uncommon to suffer from anxiety when you believe you’ve been wronged in an accident. But it works the other way around, too.

Many people fail to realize that stress manifests itself in the body to create physical pain. When you don’t know how to deal with that physical pain, it creates an even more stressful scenario.

Your body reacts to your emotions and too much stress and pressure creates a burden on your overall health. With that in mind, it’s important to start thinking about how you can deal with stress and live a happier and healthier lifestyle. Here are healthy ways that women can deal with stress.

Non-addictive Pain Management

As previously mentioned, stress can quickly become pain in the body. Whether you’re an over-pressured athletic woman or a mother suffering from chronic back pain after birth, knowing how to address pain—regardless of the source—is crucial.

Stress is particularly linked to lower back pain, which many women suffer from. If you find yourself struggling with chronic pain, it’s important that you take a non-addictive approach to pain management. With America in the midst of an opioid crisis, the last thing you want is to rely on pain killers that mask root causes of stress and create a physiological dependence. Instead, focus on non-addictive technology like the Energy Cell and alternative options like the solutions listed below.

Meditation is a commonly used practice for stress relief and relaxation. It broadens your conscious awareness and helps you to rid your mind of all the busy and hectic thoughts by encouraging inner peace through breathing and balance. With regular practice, you are essentially training your mind to react better to stressful situations, thereby controlling your body’s dreaded “fight or flight” reaction to anxiety.

Despite the fact that there are a myriad of clear benefits of meditation for women, many people struggle to get started. The concept of meditation can be overwhelming, and the desire to “get it right” can create even more stress as you embark on a new mission. However, with just a few minutes per day, you can successfully get better and better. Many mobile meditation apps are designed with beginners in mind. If you prefer in-person instruction, seek out local meditation centers and classes.

Therapy Sessions

Women’s issues can directly correlate to mental health, especially when you consider the historical challenges that have plagued women. Adverse portrayer in the media and society, oppression, and even motherhood are all contributing factors that play a role in mental health. Studies have also shown that women are more likely to develop eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia.

Unfortunately, there is a major misconception regarding the benefits of therapy sessions and who therapy works best for. The fact is, almost everyone can benefit from therapy. However, because many people stigmatize therapy as a go-to treatment for those suffering from serious mental illness, it prevents individuals from getting the counseling they need. Although there are many types of therapy, what’s key is that each addresses proper coping mechanisms for handling stress.

For example, cognitive therapy addresses how negative thoughts infiltrate your mind throughout the day and further contribute to stress. It allows you to examine negative patterns of thought and helps you learn to condition your mind to think positively. And perhaps most importantly is that therapy can also help you unearth underlying causes of stress and anxiety that may be preventing you from moving forward in your life.

Regular Exercise

Healthy exercise habits and mental health go hand in hand. Not only does exercise help boost your overall health, but it plays a critical role as a stress reliever. Your level of athletic experience and fitness doesn’t matter; anyone can do a little exercise (don’t overwork yourself and do what’s best for your individual body) and feel better.

It helps to join fitness classes dedicated exclusively to women, or even women-only gyms. These classes or facilities can decrease intimidation you might feel during exercise, and may offer equipment or facilities designed exclusively for the female body. Lastly, it’s a great way to network and meet new, like-minded friends.

What’s most important is consistency. It’s not uncommon to opt out of exercise when you’re stressed, simply because the idea of exercising seems stressful as well. But if you remind yourself that this is merely a preliminary barrier, you can work past this first hurdle with ease. Keep this in mind: you will almost never finish a productive run or workout session and return home regretting the work you put in. If you practice looking towards those feel good emotions you get when you’ve completed a routine, you’ll be able to better prepare yourself to take the first step time and time again.

Stress Diary

Maintaining a stress journal is a great way to learn to cope and self-analyze. Some studies suggest that routine journaling can strengthen immune cells called T-lymphocytes. As a stress management tool, it has the ability to wonders. When you express your thoughts coherently, you’re able to release pent up feelings and decipher your emotions in a productive way. As you record feelings of stress, you’ll start to notice patterns and consistencies from a high-level overview. You can opt for a traditional journal for logging your stressful moments, or use a stress diary template for guidance.
