The Fresh Market Launches “FREE PREMIUM CHOCOLATE MONDAYS” with Curbside Orders
Working In a Grocery Store
From the outside looking in, working in a grocery store seems like a pretty simple job. Stocking shelves or icing cake all day may even look easier than your high-pressure job, but this career comes with its own struggles. Being an employee in a grocery store isn't all stocking shelves and cleaning food display cases; it's a lot of hard work and requires superb customer service skills. If you're thinking about joining the team at your local grocery store, there are a few things you should know and consider before applying for a position.
Schedule
The most important thing to accept if you're going into the grocery business is that you won't have control over your schedule. Most employees are able to get a somewhat stable schedule, but it can change at a moment's notice based on the store's or your department's needs. Additionally, don't bet on having weekends off. Weekends are the busiest times for grocery stores and often require all hands on deck, so if you aren't available to work on Saturdays and Sundays, it might be a problem. The holidays are another big push for grocery stores and usually require all staff to work as much as possible. This means long hours, weekends, nights, and early mornings to keep the store running. Some stores even refuse to let employees take time off during holidays, so prepared for that discussion if you're trying to plan a holiday vacation.
Attitude
A calm, collected employee is the gold standard in grocery stores. Things can get hectic quick; you might spill heavy cream all over the bakery floor while a customer is yelling about a messed up order and your frustrated coworker keeps shooting you "can you believe this?" eyes. That's a lot to handle at once! Staying calm under pressure will help you to navigate the many stressful situations that can pop up when you work in customer service and with various raw materials. It's also important to remain positive and helpful because you're the face of the store with the customers. They'll come to you with questions, concerns, and problems, and you'll need to handle them respectfully and completely while reassuring the customer. If you're not a people person, working in this industry probably isn't the best fit for you.
Grocery store jobs may seem easy and care free, but they can be very stressful and require a certain kind of person to thrive.
Reasons To Try Online Grocery Shopping

1. No more struggles with kids.
What should be an in-and-out trip can end up feeling like a marathon when you have to bring your kids to the store. They want to try everything and are mesmerized by the simplest snacks. To make it worse, it's so hard to say no when they see something they want, even if you had no intention of buying the item. Online grocery shopping takes away the ticking time bomb of how your kids may respond during a grocery store visit. You can spend time with them doing activities they actually enjoy and still come home to fresh food everyone loves.2. No more frustration.
Don't you hate it when you walk into the grocery store, and it's totally redone? Now, the milk is where the meat should be, and you're all turned around trying to check the items off your list. Instead of getting caught off guard with store renovations or struggling severely to find the one item you need for your cheesy potatoes, online shopping takes away this added stress. The people who work at the store know where everything is and can get every item you need, without making you tenser. Leave it to the experts, and you'll end with everything you ordered and none of the frustration.image credit |
3. No more impulse buying.
Standing in line waiting to check out is probably the worst part of shopping because you end up with 10 more items than you intended. Whether it's the chocolate bar or tabloid magazine, impulse buying is a serious issue. These extra purchases add up and can cost you a lot of money in the long run. However, when you order your list online, there's no temptation to buy what you don't need. Your wallet will thank you.Trying something new can be scary, but it may lead you to something you never knew you needed. Online grocery shopping will give you more freedom to enjoy the things you love and multiply your valuable time.
Weeknights Are Easier When BI-LO Cooks
Raise your hand if you are sick and tired of cooking for what feels like 239 times a week. You can be certain that I have both hands raised! I cannot believe how much more cooking and cleaning many of us have been doing on a daily basis. Some days I am the expert baker and gourmet chef, other days I am ready to quit! Do you feel me? I decided that a couple days a week I will take some shortcuts to get meals on the table without wearing myself out in the process. We all have enough to think about in the current climate we are living in, so why not take a break when you can?
The BI-LO deli is such a great help when you're taking a day off from the kitchen. There are so many main dishes and sides available including: rotisserie chicken, Lip Lickin' chicken, ribs, sandwiches, salads, coleslaw, and so much more. One thing I like is that I can make a complete meal using items from the deli, or add some premade sides to a main entree I plan to cook that day.
I like serving fried chicken with sides like potato salad and coleslaw. The combination of the three is perfection! BI-LO has so many to-go sides to choose from. They would go well with any of their rotisserie chickens. Some flavors available are barbecue and lemon pepper. I will be trying some other combinations on the next store trip.
- You can make chicken Caesar wraps by using fried chicken tenders from the deli paired with bagged Caesar salad from a kit, then wrap it up in a tortilla.
- Add grilled shrimp or chicken to the salads available at the hot food counter.
- Have deli ribs as the main dish paired with deli beans and rolls from the bakery.
- Shred the meat from a rotisserie chicken to add to your favorite rice dish.
- Make a sandwich board by taking a variety of deli sandwiches and cutting them into small size portions. Add cubes of cheese and assorted fruit. It's perfect food to graze on while watching a movie together as a family.

This giveaway is open to BI-LO customers only and ends on November 17, 2019. For BI-LO locations, please visit BI-LO.com. Must follow rules in Rafflecopter. One winner will be chosen randomly. Mom Files is not responsible for any lost or stolen prizes. Good luck!
How BI-LO Delivery By Shipt Saves Busy Families Time
Do you ever find yourself at home browsing recipes on Pinterest, and you find the perfect dinner or dessert recipe that you actually have all of the ingredients for? Yeah, me either. I always seem to be off by one or two ingredients. It's hard for me since I do not have access to a vehicle during the day, so this means waiting until after 5:30 before any of the working adults get home. By that time, it's too late to try to put dinner together after getting to and from the store.
I am so grateful to live in the age of technology where you can get just about anything you need, sometimes as quickly as you need it. Thankfully Shipt grocery delivery service is available for the days I can't get to the store right away. Shipt is a membership-based service that you can join with an annual or monthly subscription, and you can cancel at any time. I'm thrilled that they now deliver from BI-LO stores.
Right now if you become a new Shipt member, you can get 2-weeks of same-day delivery free, and receive a $20 credit on your first order from BI-LO! Who doesn't want FREE groceries? Now all of those recipes that I want to make can actually happen. Shipt grocery delivery is not only convenient since you don't have to leave your home, but it helps prevent all of those unnecessary purchases. I can't ever seem to not have that urge to buy things that are not on my list for a variety of reasons. Also, not having to make a trip to the grocery store is a huge time saver, especially for busy families.
I was super excited to make my first order from BI-LO using Shipt. This just happened to be one of those times where I seemed to have run out of so many of my kitchen and household staples at the same time. Also, since it is the baking season, I stocked up on a few baking supplies so I won't run into the issue of not having all of the ingredients for a recipe. But you know what? If I do run out it's no problem! I can just log into my Shipt account and make a quick delivery order, and receive my items in as soon as one hour. As long as I keep my order $35 or more, my delivery is free.
I feel like once you get Shipt delivery, there is no turning back. I enjoyed receiving my groceries from BI-LO, and I look forward to placing my next order. My Shipt shopper alerted me via text when she made it to BI-LO and asked if I needed any additional items. She shopped my order, and as soon as she was done, she texted me to let me know she was on the way to my home. You can start your Shipt account online or through their free app available through your phone's app store. Don't forget to take advantage of their special promotion to get your $20 credit to shop at BI-LO.
So now the question is which dessert or entree do I make first? I guess the next thing I need to work on is my meal planning. That's definitely not my favorite thing to do, but at least I can grocery shop in my pajamas! If you have any questions about BI-LO delivery by Shipt, leave me a comment or send an email. Thank you for stopping by today!

I've Finally Joined The Cool Kids With Online Shopping
I tried out ordering groceries online last December using Kroger Clicklist and it really changed my life. I realized that I was spending way too much every time I shopped and by ordering online, I have zero temptation for all of the extra things that would usually land in my cart. I do about two big grocery orders a month and try not to make too many trips in between. So far, I have seen a huge difference in my spending. You can get the details about Clicklist here.
The other thing I did was get Amazon Prime. I usually would use the husband's or daughter's accounts since they had the student discount for the membership. Well, they eventually graduated or decided they didn't want spend the money any more, so I broke down and got it. I have to say, it was the best thing I could have done. Now I can buy all of my fresh food from my local grocery store and get all of my pantry and household staples through Amazon Pantry. I am also obsessed with Prime shipping. Seriously, free and fast shipping is life!
I probably need to watch myself with Amazon though. I seem to find everything that I can't seem to live without. I guess that defeats the purpose with saving money, huh? I realized that most everything is done online these days and I finally accepted it. Of course there will always be things that I prefer to buy in person, so I still get to be hands-on. I do feel badly for stores that have to end up going out of business because of online shopping, but you have to roll with the times. Good thing we have been buying most of our garden supplies locally from the Mom & Pop shops as well as supporting local farmers and roadside vendors. We surely don't want small businesses to suffer.
What are your shopping habits like? Are you a big online shopper or do you stick to the old school, traditional in-store shopping?

Make Your Grocery Shopping Simple With #ClickList From Kroger
- If you have to take kids with you, it can be a challenge to get done quickly.
- You have very limited time to look around.
- You avoid crowds like the plague.
- Overbuying. It's easy to grab impulse items when they are staring you in the face.
When it came time to pick up my order, I drove through the Kroger parking lot over to the loading area for ClickList customers. The sign instructed you to call the number listed. My call was answered very quickly and I was told it would be about 5 minutes for someone to come out to my car.
Next step was paying for my order (they only accept credit or debit cards) and then getting my items loaded. It's as easy as swipe and sign. I offered to help the attendant, but she insisted that this is part of the service and I didn't even have to get out of my car. It was also mentioned via email that tipping is not necessary. I have to say, even if I paid the $4.95 service fee, it would have totally been worth it! The service was outstanding and the overall experience was user-friendly and seamless.
When I unloaded my groceries at home, I was pleased with the obvious attention that went into packing my items carefully. All cold items, frozen, and produce were grouped together and none of the bags were over-packed. All of my items were fresh and of the highest quality that I expect from Kroger. I was pleased that I did not overspend from the temptation of impulse items. I always spend an extra $20-$40 every time I shop! I never thought the day would come that I would be ordering my groceries online. I think I annoyed my husband for days after about how much I loved the service. This is totally the way to go when I have to make a large grocery order. The future has arrived, and I am totally here for it.
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Kroger. The opinions and text are all mine.
