Family * Travel * Food

I was craving these

I was on Facebook and noticed that one of my friends became a "fan of" Sonic and I got to thinking about onion rings. 30 minutes later this is the trouble I got myself into in the kitchen!

Vent Day Wednesday

Welcome to this week's 'throwback' edition of Vent Day Wednesday. We decided to put this video up since we have acquired a new audience of VDW viewers who may have never seen this one. Also this video will make my last post make sense. If you are a fan of watching the black Archie Bunker laugh himself to tears then this is the one to watch. Don't forget to leave your vents in the comments!

The Jimmy Hoffa drawers

If you have been a long-time Vent Day watcher then you will know exactly why I titled this post like I did. For those who have no clue these would be my junk drawers that Dwayne gets annoyed with. I say they are chock full of great little things that you might need some day. It beats having a big office downstairs filled with boxes of....well I don't know exactly. Tell me, don't we all have at least one drawer in our home that resembles this?

Comfort Food

Since the weather reports said that we would have clouds and cool weather I decided to make a nice big pot of soup. It is full of yummy beans, corn, turnip greens, sweet potatoes, carrots, chicken and crab legs. Watch out now Bobby Flay!!

Hi friends, Welcome to this week's edition of Vent Day Wednesday. We apologize for the video being really long but like always it was Dwayne's fault. Be sure to leave us a comment telling us your vents or just letting us know what you think of the video.

Shelly is de-funked

I wrote a post the other day about not feeling like myself and found the culprit. I was taking vitamins and they were messing with me in a big way. I thought that maybe I needed to take a multi-vitamin to give my body some of those important vitamins and minerals I might not be getting daily. I noticed that taking these vitamins my appetite increased to where I would eat ALL day long. Might I add, eating all the wrong things and indulging in a lot of sweets and junk food. I realized that this changed my mood and physical feelings. I decided to stop the vitamins and 24 hours later the normal Shelly came back to the world. I am so happy to be back. No more multi-vitamins for me! I will stick to calcium and vitamin C supplements. I'm baaack!!!

I almost quit

I have been contemplating it for some time. I kept saying that I will give it another shot.

Day after day it was the same old thing. I wanted something better, fresher, richer, newer, more decadent. Decisions... decisions.

Well I have made up my mind. I'm not leaving you, not now and maybe not ever. Sorry I even entertained the idea of getting rid of you.

Gum + Dryer = sticky mess!!

So I was being the great mom and wife that I always am and was doing laundry as usual. I am a stickler for checking pockets and sorting colors correctly. Apparently Dwayne had a few extra items that were dirty so I kind of just threw them along with the rest of the clothes. We all make mistakes occasionally right? Well let's say I made the biggest laundry mistake EVER. I accidentally washed...not a stick of gum, but the entire pack of gum (won't say which brand cause Dwayne will want endorsement money!) and then dried those clothes with the gum and all. I had no idea I had done so. The thing that made me realize this was the bursting fresh scent of peppermint when I opened the dryer door. I panicked and checked the clothes. Thankfully everything was gum-free. I found a couple balls of gum/wrappers/packaging all stuck together and then there were some long blue streaks all over the inside of the barrel. I just knew it would take all day to get that sticky gunk out. Luckily I utilized the beautiful thing we have called the Internet and found a way to remove the gum. It took all of 10 minutes total and now my dryer is as good as new!

Of course now the kids and Dwayne have been giving me the hardest time. It will probably be months before they let this one go. I'm just so glad it all worked out and yes, I will double check pockets like I usually do!

On another note, there will not be a VDW video tomorrow. We will post a wordless Wednesday because we have loads of yard work to do (really Dwayne does). I will supervise ;)

My life has been taken over!

I just don't get it. I used to watch TV, go out to lunch with friends, and go anywhere I wanted when I wanted. I walked into my bedroom this afternoon to fold the 50 loads of laundry that have been neglected. I figured I might as well get it done while Willie was actually taking a nap. I picked up the remote control, (from Dwayne's side of the bed of course) I press "power" and there was some random sci-fi movie on (Dwayne again) so I type in the number 28. Problem. Channel 28 is not Food Network, HGTV, SoapNet, local news, or A&E. Channel 28 is Noggin. I am so programmed to catering to my little guy that I automatically turn to his channel! Now the really ridiculous part is I sit there and get all into the shows! Dwayne, Chardie and Brie do it as well. They even go to Noggin on Demand to watch thier favorite shows over and over. We even love some shows that we claimed we would never watch in our lives. If you have a little one then you know exactly what I'm talking about! I am singing "Go Diego Go!" in my head as I type. Truly my life has been taken over but I am not complaining one bit :)

It's our 15 year Anniversary!!

Dwayne and Sheliza proudly celebrate 15 years of marriage this 29th day of January. We were both only 20 years old with no clue in the world about what our lives would be like later on down the line. We can say that it has been a great big roller coaster ride with many twists and turns, fun times, sad times, crazy times, happy times and a lot of amazing memories. Our choice to get married was not favored by others but we knew we were meant to be together. Nothing and no one was going to stop Dwayne and Shelly from being together!

Check out the looong nails! Hey, when you get your nails done for free, you graciously accept it and move on. My dress, shoes and accessories cost under $75 for everything! Our cake was given to us by a friend as a gift (her mom was a baker). All the food, tables, chairs and the place we got married in was offered up by friends and family.

Dwayne and I did not even want an actual wedding. We wanted to go to the Courthouse and be done with it, but his Aunt convinced us that we had to do it right. Our wedding was done on a $500 budget and I'm glad we did it that way. No Hollywood here!

*If anyone refers to my hair using the words Salt 'n'Pepa or Push it, I will block you! lol!! Kidding*

We honeymooned in the Bahamas (another gift to us) and I really don't know why we were posed like that but something tells me Dwayne made us do it! I would have worn a little dress but it was cold and rainy the whole time we were there. I had to borrow clothes to stay warm since all I packed was a bikini and sundresses. This was the last hour of our time in the Freeport and the sun decided to shine at the last minute!

Everyone wants to know what we are doing for our special day. We will go to lunch, order out for dinner and share some wine and some memories of old times. Nice and simple, just how we like it!

A week about love

This week's posts will be dedicated to love. Why love you ask?? Well because two people you know, Dwayne and Sheliza are getting ready to celebrate 15 years of marriage. This is a big deal to us and we wanted to share this special time with you all (you know what I mean for those of you thinking very wrong things!) We actually were together for 5 years before officially tying the knot. Hmm, this means a total of 20 years and running with the same person. Most people ask ME how we do it (remember, I am married to Dwayne). I truly feel that we were both meant for one another. It took a woman like me to tame the beast. You let Dwayne tell the story and he will say he decided to keep me around. When he really wants to be annoying he will say "It's cheaper to keep her". Yep, that's my husband *sighs* What can I do, I did promise before God and all our friends and family that we were in it for life. Seriously though, it's a good life! Stay tuned this week for all things "Love". *This is where my kids make the throw-up face and say that they don't know us, ha ha!!

Flashback Friday

This is me when I was 4 years old. I got this dress for Christmas and I thought it was the most amazing dress a girl could have. I wanted to wear it everyday, even to bed!
Here I am senior year in high school, age 17 and a whole 91 pounds!! Check out the white stocking and white flats. How exactly did that go with a Summer skorts/dress I will never know. I was rockin' the big hair too! Ah, 1991 was a good year!

Dwayne & Shelly's night out

Dwayne and I went out on Friday night to a Christmas party at the Capital City Club. We went last year and I was 6 months pregnant at the time. Our server we had last year came by our private dining room to say hello and she actually remembered details about all of us. Even what we were drinking! Of course for me that was water :) The girls and my mother-in-law took care of William...everyone survived. I did keep checking to see if the girls sent a text. I told them to do so in case of an emergency. Thankfully everything went smoothly and we were able to enjoy some time out alone.

Malibu & pineapple sure was nicer than water this year!

This shot makes me look pregnant with the way the sweater fit!

Dwayne as always, trying to look cool.
