Gum + Dryer = sticky mess!!

So I was being the great mom and wife that I always am and was doing laundry as usual. I am a stickler for checking pockets and sorting colors correctly. Apparently Dwayne had a few extra items that were dirty so I kind of just threw them along with the rest of the clothes. We all make mistakes occasionally right? Well let's say I made the biggest laundry mistake EVER. I accidentally washed...not a stick of gum, but the entire pack of gum (won't say which brand cause Dwayne will want endorsement money!) and then dried those clothes with the gum and all. I had no idea I had done so. The thing that made me realize this was the bursting fresh scent of peppermint when I opened the dryer door. I panicked and checked the clothes. Thankfully everything was gum-free. I found a couple balls of gum/wrappers/packaging all stuck together and then there were some long blue streaks all over the inside of the barrel. I just knew it would take all day to get that sticky gunk out. Luckily I utilized the beautiful thing we have called the Internet and found a way to remove the gum. It took all of 10 minutes total and now my dryer is as good as new!

Of course now the kids and Dwayne have been giving me the hardest time. It will probably be months before they let this one go. I'm just so glad it all worked out and yes, I will double check pockets like I usually do!

On another note, there will not be a VDW video tomorrow. We will post a wordless Wednesday because we have loads of yard work to do (really Dwayne does). I will supervise ;)

Brotha Drinks

Here goes Papo with one of his official "Brotha" drinks. Pineapple is one of his favorites. Notice how he has the brand covered up? You know he needs some endorsement money if he shows that!! What are we going to do with him?

A big thank you to YOU!

I know you are wondering why we are thanking you. It is because of all the feedback you have given us on our new look. Whether you commented through the blog, Twitter, Facebook or personal email it has been greatly appreciated. We really weren't sure what our readers might think since it is so bold and different from what it has been over the past couple years. However, it seems to be unanimous that everyone likes the new look and it is here to stay! Of course we couldn't have done it without two talented young mommies, Sheena from Mommydaddyblog for designing the logo and Jen from Keep it Classy, Jen for making our header. If you are looking to spruce up your blog then I would certainly recommend either of these awesome ladies! We are so happy with the look of the blog and it really is what we envisioned when we started Momfiles.

We wish you all a fantastic weekend!!!

Yoplait Kids Get Active prize pack GIVEAWAY

I have been given the opportunity to try out Yoplait Kids yogurt. Funny thing is that I have been purchasing Yoplait yogurt since my girls were William's age. In those days they called them Yumsters. There is something about that smooth & creamy texture that is very appealing to kids (and also to mom). I really love the fact that my child is getting his much needed calcium and vitamin D in a very delicious way. We all know how important calcium is for building strong bones! Also Yoplait kids yogurt has 25% less sugar than the average leading kids yogurts.

Look at little yogurt mouth :)

I really love the fact that Dora the Explorer along with her friends are featured characters on the containers. I think this really adds to the "kid-friendly" nature of this product. Another plus is that Yoplait Kids offers the Box Tops for Education coupons on the outer packaging.

Along with sampling the yogurt, I received this fantastic Get Active prize pack which includes a travel cooler (to take your yogurt on the road), a jump rope, a water bottle and an outdoor game set that includes a beach ball, paddle ball, Jai-Ali and a Frisbee. These items are great for outdoor play and help encourage children to stay active and healthy. I know my family will enjoy these items for the Spring and Summer.

South Carolina Junior Scholar- Chardonnay Ismail

Yesterday evening was an exceptional one. Our family went to see our daughter accept an award for being a South Carolina Junior Scholar. She scored very high on the PSAT and is in the top 2% of our state for academics. Is was just awesome seeing all of those intelligent young people there being honored for their achievement. They are our future physicians, scientists, engineers, chefs, and the sky's the limit! Each student received an official award along with a pin.

Look at my grown up looking girl!
I actually got in a photo this time! I am always the one taking them.

This is Chardie with one of our local news anchors Stewart Moore of WIS news. He was the keynote speaker at the ceremony. Chardie threatened to take his job! Her dream is to be a news anchor locally and then for CNN. The photo came out bad because someone I know had the camera. I guess you can't take extra time to adjust the camera settings while you have a local celeb waiting so I will give him a break this time.

We are so proud of Chardonnay and we know she will go far in life :)

Saturday's v-ball tourney

We spent Saturday in North Augusta for Chardie's volleyball tournament. It was a long but really good day. Chardie's team won first place in the Bronze division, not exactly Gold status but it is always great to place first in any division! The team was so excited and here are some photos of the day.
William was SO well behaved and all the parents were bragging about the fact that he was so quiet. Yeah, that was just because he was surrounded by women and girls all day!

Here is Willie with Brie before the first match.
Papo, Chardie and William getting some floor time before the next game started.

William and Chardie

This is what it looks like when we have to pack up to go to an out-of-town event. ALL of that stuff belongs to our family. It was like home away from home! Beverage anyone??

Willie's birthday photos

I promised some birthday boy photos so here they are. William was a bit under the weather so he really was not smiling. As a matter of fact, I don't think I got even one shot with him smiling! Here's how his evening started. A nice nap...
His grandma (Shelly's mom) bought him this outfit.
Still no smiles. Not even a tongue shot as he is known for :P
Okay, there's a semi-smile :)
Here's Papo, the #1 cake inspector! William does not look very interested at all!
The smash cake. Would you believe not one speck of it got on his head?! He didn't even want to eat it.

Gotta have the paparazzi! Everyone was armed with a camera phone!

William is 1!

The day is finally here. William is officially one year old today! We are all so excited to celebrate this evening and there is so much left to do. I still have to go to the store to pick up some extra food items, the cake, balloons... It's always a mad dash at the last minute! I am happy that we are not having anything big, just us and the grandparents. We don't believe in spending loads of money on a child that would not even have a clue of what is going on. We also don't want to obligate anyone during these trying financial times. I'll be sure to post the birthday photos tomorrow so check back! Have a great day :)

Vent Day Wednesday, um not really

Well we know that today is Wednesday. We know how very much you look forward to watching us act foolishly. Sorry, since I had my dental issues it would not have been pleasant to show my swollen cheeks on camera. If you need your Dwayne fix then you can click above this post to view our VDW videos. If you are anything like Dwayne then you might just find yourself laughing at them hysterically even after numerous times. Gosh I hope none of you are like him!

On another note we have updated our blog to give it a little edgy, sexy look. Our header was done by Keep it classy, Jen What do you think? We want honest opinions even if they are negative. We can take it, I promise! Who knows, if you say something bad I might have to have Dwayne put you on blast on the next video (kidding!). We just appreciate your input. Holla at us in the comments!

Monday Madness

Good Monday morning to all. I am waiting on my dental office to call me back to see if there is anything they can do for my toothache. It has been a weekend of agony for me so I hope they have some good news for me or I will be so desperate that I might try to perform my very own oral surgery. If you have ever suffered from a toothache then you know exactly what I'm talking about. On top of that poor Willie has a 100.4 degree temp this morning. Huh?? Didn't see that one coming. This is his birthday week and look how it has started. Poor little munchkin. I can't make an appointment for him until I hear back from the dentist *sigh* Okay, no more complaining. I will think positive thoughts. Perhaps a little chat with the WBC's might do the trick? Hell, anything is worth a shot at this point!

Pajama weekend

It's 4:00 in the afternoon and I am still in my jammies. As a matter of fact, so is the rest of the family. I am just wanting to stay in all day, all weekend at that. We've got rain, cool temps and I have a horrible toothache that I am waiting out until Monday to get fixed. I would prefer to give birth over having a toothache, seriously. Even though I hate big busy cities, I do love the fact that doctors and dental offices are open 7 days a week. I guess that is the downfall of living in a smaller city. My dentist was closed on Friday! I am suffering but hanging in there. I hope to be back in action this upcoming week. What are you up to this weekend??

Much better night

I think Dwayne might be on to something or it is just a fluke. He came up with an idea to get William to sleep better at night. Here's the plan:
  • turn of the television
  • bathe and feed William and then put him on the floor to exercise (wear himself out)
  • Light candles (out of reach of course)
  • when he shows signs of being ready to sleep then down he goes.

Outcome: We had to make sure he was okay this morning since he did not want to wake up! 8 am is a good wake-up time if you ask me! Dwayne has one or two good ideas every so often ;)

SHARE:

He is something else

William has acquired a new habit. He wakes up at 2 am every night now for about a week acting as if he never gets fed. He gives the 'hungry cry' and does not seem to stop until he gets a bottle. He is about to turn a year old and we will not be doing the bottle much longer so I am not sure what will happen. Dwayne and I realized that having a boy is way different after having 2 girls. William really thinks he can try to run things. Disciplinary action had been taken already so he knows who's boss around here. I guess we have to exercise patience a bit more with this one.
William is lucky he is so adorable. Whatever he is going through, I am hoping it will soon pass.
Has anyone had this happen with their little one before where they go from sleeping through the night and then the opposite, waking up in the middle of the night to eat? What advice can you give us?

Why I love South Carolina

Here are some of my favorite things about living in the friendly state of South Carolina:

  • I love the wardrobe. Jeans, flip-flops and a Carolina Girl t-shirt.
  • Mom & Pop shops. They make you feel like you are family and that you are the only customer in the store.
  • Our every day greeting "Hey Y'all!"
  • You can have grits for dinner.
  • Sweet tea, as Paula Deen calls it "House wine of the South"
  • I love the fact that you can actually get to the country in less than 10 minutes. Seeing the farms, horses, cows and country living is so beautiful. Feels like a getaway.
  • Southern Hospitality and charm.
  • The fact that there is an actual senior citizen to greet you when you walk into Wal-Mart. Then as you leave they say in a Southern accent "Thanks for shopping at Wal-Mart, Y'all come back".
  • Most people hold the door open for you and allow you to cross through the parking lot.
  • I just could not imaging living anyplace else :)

So much to do

I have not posted in a few days with good reason. I needed a little break. I have had a lot on my plate lately (and in my head) that anything I end up saying might not make any sense. Make sense? One of the things that has had me tied up is making arrangements for some traveling we will be doing over the course of the next 4 weeks for the girls' volleyball teams. How fun is it when they both have a game on the same day except they play in 2 cities that are located in the opposite direction!? Lucky for us Chardie will ride with a friend to her game this Saturday so that is a HUGE help to me. I also have to bring (or send) food, drinks and snacks for both teams. I guess it is a good thing when your kids are into the same sports or activities but it can still be conflicting at times. As long as the kiddies are happy, I will make it happen.

Let's see, little William has his 1st birthday coming up this month. This time has gone by too fast, I want a do-over! He proves to us daily that he is a boy. No mistaking that one. I am trying to make transitions to 'big boy' status and it is going slowly. Yeah, William thinks he's royalty apparently. *sighs* To everyone that told me that I would not be spoiled with this little one like I was with the girls, Thanks. I know this now. He's so darn sweet and cute though :)

I have been working on a few projects that are time consuming. Another post for another time. Tomorrow is Wednesday. Did y'all miss your boy? Well he will be back so get ready. Let's hope he does not put all our business out in the street. Be sure to stop by tomorrow. Well that's all for now. Have a great day!
