Do you have time to care?

Just curious...

Do you often say "I don't have any time".

I was talking to a friend of mine on this subject a couple weeks ago. We discussed how people often say they have no time. Now, when you have to go to work... you set your alarm clock, you lay out your clothes, you grab something quick to eat and you run out the door so you are not late for work. (Maybe it's not always done that way but you get what I'm saying) We do this because it is our responsibility. You and your family depend on that paycheck. Now what if you get a call and someone wants to get together for coffee or would like to drop by for a quick visit. I bet in the back of your mind you think "I don't have time for this. I work and have responsibilities. I'll just make an excuse to get out of it." I think we all do this at times, we are all human after all. My point about this is that we only make time for what is important to ourselves.

How long does it actually take to send an email that you can type up in less than a minute while paying your bills or checking your email?

How hard is it to call someone you care about and tell them you only have a couple minutes to talk, but you wanted to see how they were doing?

How much time does it take to send a text message to say hello?

I'm not always the best at keeping in touch with everybody and their mamas, but I do give the effort for those I care about and sometimes for people I have never even met. Yes, I have 3 kids, a husband, a home, bills, responsibilities and so on... I still take time for others even if it's for 2 minutes. Those 2 minutes can speak volumes to someone.

With all that being said, I challenge you to pop an email, a text or a quick call to someone you have not done your best to keep in touch with. After all, life is not just about you.

My part-time job

I have been working on my new part-time during the past few weeks in order to make some extra cash in my pocket. It seems as if Summer break mean an extra $50 plus on my grocery bill each week. I had to do something that did not require working outside of my home. I am making gourmet baskets for businesses. I will pretty much only work with businesses because most people don't want to spend what I have to charge in order to make a profit. I am having fun doing it and the kids enjoy watching me be creative. Here is the latest basket I put together...

Flashback Friday

This is one of those cheesy felt hanging posters you get made at carnivals and fairs. This one was done almost 15 years ago (a few months before we got married). We keep it hanging in our upstairs hallway.

Quick William post

William went to the pediatrician today for his 4 month check up and I figured he would weigh about 15 pounds and change. How about big boy weighs 17 lbs 2 oz!!! He's 27" long. The doc seemed very happy with his growth. She said he is definitely ready for solid foods. I admitted that I have been doing that for a few weeks now. I thought I was going to be in trouble and she might try to put him on a diet (Even if she did, I don't listen to doctors anyway). She said I seem to have a handle on things and I was doing the right thing. He has been cranky because if his vaccines so he has been fused to me most of the day. That's all for now...

Guess who's 4 months old today?

William is 4 months old today. It is so hard to believe! He is HUGE. His next pediatrician's appointment is Monday so we will find out just how big he is. Everyone around town thinks he looks like he's about 7 or 8 months old because of his size. I had to start him on fruits and veggies. He was definitely ready for something a little more filling. Both my girls were the same way except I started the solid foods way earlier than with this little guy. I give birth to teenie tiny babies and then they just grow like crazy! I have been packing away outgrown clothing each day. The boy now wears size 9-12 months! He loves to play and when he gets a little fussy we sing his ABC's and he stares at you in delight and listens very closely. If you stop, he gets cranked up again and you have to start over! He recognizes his alphabet because I was reciting it (sisters and daddy too) over and over throughout my pregnancy.

My favorite thing he does is when he has those big belly laughs...you could just eat him up!! His daddy can really get him going! (what a surprise, huh?) He's sleeping all through the night now (9 hours+) so I guess and can't use the "I'm tired" excuse because I am well rested. Oh and he has not missed the paci! He's a good baby and I am looking forward to watching him grow and learn. I will post about his doc appointment on Monday. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Odd question...

I was wondering how people from different states, cultures and ethnic backgrounds felt about this:
Do you call your aunt and uncles "Aunt Janet" or "Uncle Bob" or do you call them by their first name? I grew up in a very strict and conservative Guyanese home and my parents were sticklers for respecting your elders. We NEVER called any aunt or uncle by their first name. As a matter of fact, if you were a cousin that was older we had to refer to that person as 'cousin so and so'. When I met Dwayne he introduced his aunt and uncle to me by first names. I thought maybe just because it was an introduction that was why he did that. Then when I kept hearing him call them by first names I freaked out! It turns out I have met many people along the way that do that. I have nothing against anyone that does that, but was wondering what your thoughts are about this subject.

Do you call your aunts or uncles by their first name?
Do you think it is wrong if you don't?

New phone plastic

Please tell me why my hubby wants to keep the protective plastic that comes on a new cellphone?! He is one of those people that likes to keep all the stickers and labels on all things new. Does he not realize that the plastic covers are a part of the packaging and serve no other function than just that? As a matter of fact, it covers both the part you speak into, hear out of and also the camera. Does this make any sense? If he got the stupid orange water cooler he would probably leave the "look inside for FREE cup dispenser" label on the already tacky looking cooler. I am to the point that I might just let him have the big orange atrocity. You see folks, this is why I opted not to name my baby boy after his father...I would lose my mind! That's my tacky husband!

Now That's Some BULLS@#T !!!

Now for everyone that knows about the cooler story that occurred last weekend, don't you think this is some BullS@#t ? My wife tried to make me feel good with this girly-man cooler. She thinks she's slick by getting me a cooler that says DieHard. This is not a manly-man Bruce Willis Die Hard cooler. This is a itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini girly-man cooler. How can I go around my boys with this cute cooler? I want my orange cooler back! Holla if ya hear me!!! PEACE

Evil mom takes "paci" away

Yesterday was a very trying day. I took dear 'paci' away for good. I really had no intention of even starting little William on a pacifier, but when he stuck a couple of fingers in his mouth on the day he was born we quickly requested that the nurse bring us a paci. I knew one day I would take it away. My original plan was when he turned 4 months old, but then I thought, "what am I waiting for?" I figured the earlier I did it, the easier it would be. Now my baby is not a whiny little crying baby for the most part. The only time he actually cries is if he is hungry or sleepy. Normally we would stick the paci in his mouth and he would sleep. Well, now he cries for about 10 minutes and then goes to sleep. Everyone thinks I am the mean and evil mother but I am very consistent when it comes to raising my children. I had to do the same with Briahnna when she was the same age. She survived. William will probably get over it in a few days. Most all of my friends and family thought this baby would be the spoiled one...WRONG!!! He gets the same treatment the others did just minus all the bells and whistles. I better go have an extra cup of coffee this morning so I can be fully alert to handle the little boy. Have a great day!

Don'tcha hate it when.... Wednesday

Don'tcha hate it when...
  • you are blog browsing and forget your speakers are turned up and you land on a blog with music?! Scares the hell outta you huh?!
  • you invite someone over for a meal and before you can offer they assume they can fix a plate to go?
  • you have to pack away laundry? I'd much rather have a nice "clean clothes" pile at the foot of my bed thanks!
  • it's time to get the cars fueled up again?
  • you forget to sweeten your coffee, ughh!
  • even worse, you go to make coffee and realize that was the one item you forgot the day prior at the grocery store. I think even with a list I always forget at least one thing.

Big Willie Style!

Here's a photo of our big boy on the 4th. Our friends and family call him "Big Willie Style" because of his size! He was chillin' in the sun on his Papo after feasting on baby bananas followed by a big bottle of formula! You can probably see some of the evidence on his belly LOL! What can I say? He eats like Papo. As a matter of fact, there is barbecue sauce on Papo's shirt and William happens to be covering it up! I better stop talking about my hubby like that! I LOVE you Dwayne!!!

Just last night Dwayne and I were saying, "wow, we have a son". I think we must still be in denial or something. We said that we are officially grown folks now! For those of you that are parents, are you ever still amazed that you are a mother or father?

Men can't be trusted

Yesterday on the 4th, we ran into a problem when I realized the grill rack I purchased a few days prior would not work for the bbq grill we have. I went to two different stores to find the correct size and had no luck. This became very stressful seeing that I had only two hours before my guests arrive. Dwayne decides to go out and see if he could find one. He goes to the same exact stores I did only different locations. He had no luck. We had to resort to using the one I bought even though it was too short. Now my hubby decides that he could not walk through the door empty handed. This is what he buys...

-I ask him (very annoyed) "what the heck is that for?"
-He replies, "I might need some water while I am driving my truck"
-Me, "Then get some bottled water and put it in a cooler you idiot!!"
-Him, "but it looks so manly and cool"
-Me, (really mad at this point) "You are not a construction worker or a physical labor worker, you don't need 5 gallons of water. It's going back tomorrow"
-Him, "come on, pleeease??! It even has a cup dispenser!"
-Me. I just give him "the look".
-Him, (looking like a little boy while kicking his feet around on the grass) "Fine. I can't ever have anything around here"
-Me, "Damn right!"
I can't ever let him loose in any store because he loves buying stupid and useless stuff. I guess it is a guy thing. Poor Dwayne. I don't know why he ever thinks he has a chance at winning.
