Eggland's Best "Your Best Recipe" Contest

EGGLAND’S BEST EGGS ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL RECIPE CONTEST Eggland’s Best “Your Best Recipe” Contest Provides At-home Chefs A Chance to Win $10,000

No longer relegated to only breakfast fare, eggs are taking center stage in dishes across the country, being featured in inventive ways that showcase its versatility and ability to bring new tastes and textures to everything from soups and salads, to pastas and burger toppings.

Eggland’s Best (EB), the No. 1 brand of eggs in the country known for its superior nutritional profile, freshness and quality, wants to recognize the culinary talents of at-home chefs with the announcement of the brand’s first-ever national recipe contest.

Call for entries to the Eggland’s Best “Your Best Recipe” Contest is open now through August 12, 2012 and at-home chefs can submit their best original recipe featuring at least two EB eggs online at www.egglandsbest.com/yourbestrecipe. A $1,000 prize will be awarded in each of the following four categories: Breakfast, Appetizer, Main Course, and Dessert and one at-home chef whose dish best showcases the use of Eggland’s Best eggs will be awarded a $10,000 grand prize.

Helping to judge recipe entries are chef and cookbook author Candice Kumai, who also serves as a judge on Food Network’s Iron Chef America, as well as Elizabeth Ward, a nationally recognized registered dietitian. Both experts will be evaluating recipes based on the criteria of taste, presentation, availability of ingredients and creativity.

“The test of a true chef is in knowing how to cook eggs properly, and selecting the best ingredients to cook with,” says Chef Candice Kumai. “I personally use Eggland’s Best eggs because not only are they more nutritious than ordinary eggs, but the yolks are also plumper, creamier and brighter in color. Their freshness and quality ensure my egg dishes turn out consistently every time.”

For official contest rules and to submit your original recipe, visit Eggland's Best or Eggland's Best on Facebook.

Dr. Seuss' The Lorax Prize Pack Giveaway

DR. SEUSS’ THE LORAX will be in theaters March 2! We are looking forward to it especially because our almost 4 year old son shows great interest in it. I just love the story behind The Lorax. Recycling, repurposing, reusing and being kind to our environment is important to my family. Hey, I want a Truffula Tree and would love a hug from a Bar-Ba-Loot! :) From the looks of the trailer, I am sure the movie will be amazing! I showed it to my teenager daughters and they want to see it as well.
If you are a Facebook user, you are encouraged to join The Lorax in speaking for the trees and to add a Truffula Tree to your Facebook profile picture. Your participation builds awareness for the reforestation efforts taking place with The Atlantic Forest in Brazil, which has been generously supported through a contribution made to The Nature Conservancy by Universal Pictures. I very proudly changed my profile picture to show my support :)

Purex + Jockey Review and Giveaway

As a Purex Insider, I recently received a Jockey sports bra and a bottle of Purex Crystals in Tropical Splash to try out. I have tested the Purex Crystals in the past and was very pleased with the results. You can't beat a fabric softener that you add at the beginning of your wash cycle and not have to wait to put it in the rinse cycle. It is easy to use and the fragrance is long-lasting. I washed my bed sheets on Monday and I can still smell the Tropical Blast freshness!

So what does this have to do with a sports bra? Well Purex Crystals are 92% natural crystals that infuse long-lasting freshness into the fabric fibers of clothing – without harming garments (like liquid softener products that use oils to soften). This is especially important for activewear like Jockey®’s sports bras, as liquid softeners can harm active wear’s moisture wicking ability. Additionally, Purex Crystals work to create a continuous long-lasting freshness, eliminating that all-too-common odor that gets embedded in workout clothing.
I really liked the fit of the Tech Terry performance sports bra. I received a size medium in black and it was just right. I suspect these bras are cut a wee bit small so more than likely you would need to next size up. This worked out for me since I would normally wear a size small. These comfy bras come in sizes XS-XL. It is funny that I was just making excuses about working out because I did not have the appropriate attire. Looks like I am officially fresh out of excuses now! I love the fact that it has a nifty key holder in the front so you can have a comfortable  walk or workout and not be worried about where your key is.  I have washed the bra twice already and it has not changed shape or fit and the Purex Crystals make it smell so fresh, even under clothing! You can sign up for a 20% off Jockey coupon code here.

How would like to win one these Jockey sports bras and a full-size bottle of Purex Crystals to keep it fresh smelling? Once lucky Momfiles reader will win this great prize. Enter below!

Carmex skin care line review | Giveaway

**Contest Closed**
Winner is #67 Julie Jones~ Congratulations!!

I received the latest Carmex Blog Squad goodies last week and they came right on time! The kit came with both Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream in full-size tubes as well as the mini versions. I have tried both of them out in the past and love love love them! It has a very light scent that reminds me of playdough for some reason. They are non-greasy and emollient at the same time.

I am a big fan of the healing cream since the temperatures have dropped. My whole family's skin turns into reptile-like scales. Not cute at all! The cream is heavy enough to smooth my skin out and makes it feel and look softer instantly. These creams and lotions are available at Walgreens and CVS and I just found out that Walmart will start carrying it. That is great news since I go there at least once a week (just don't tell my husband that). Full-size tubes retail for about $5.99 and the mini ones for around $0.99. They would make perfect stocking stuffers and teacher gifts. I can just see a small tube of Carmex lotion for each teacher to keep in their desk.

The awesome folks at Carmex are allowing us to give away one Carmex skin care prize pack to one lucky Momfiles reader. The prize pack will include:

  • One 5.5 oz Carmex Healing Lotion
  • One 4 oz Carmex Healing Cream
  • One 1 oz Carmex Healing Lotion
  • One .75 oz Carmex Healing Cream

To enter: Let us know if you are a Carmex user and if so, what is your favorite product? Have you tried any of the skin care items?

Winner is #16 The Sleepy Dreamer

Schick® Intuition® is the razor that lathers and shaves in one easy step. They are  kicking off the fall season with a fun, interactive Facebook application and coupon program centered around the balance and happiness that can come from leading a more simple life. Now until October 30, 2011 fans can visit the Schick® Intuition®  Facebook page to take the “Intuition IQ” quiz and discover if they are “Simply Carefree,” “Simply Flexible” or “Simply Smart.” After taking the quiz, fans are able to download a $3.00 coupon for any Intuition razor or 3ct. refills.

I personally LOVE Schick Intuition razors and have been using them off and on for some time now. I tried the Intuition® Naturals Sensitive Care® with Aloe and Vitamin E for the first time. It is fragrance-free and hypoallergenic which was just perfect for my legs since I am sensitive to overly scented products. I totally love the convenience of not having to use a separate shaving cream or gel. My legs feel ultra smooth and soft and I did not have any stinging or itching. I think my teenagers could benefit from this razor since they tend to have issues with cuts and scrapes while shaving.
Schick® Intuition® razor handles and refill cartridges are available at mass retailers nationwide and sell approximately for $9.29 (razor), $9.99 for 3 count and $17.59 for a 6 count refill. Remember, if you take the Intuition IQ Test you can download a $3.00 off coupon!

Cooking with Coke- Share your recipes & memories {Giveaway}

Contest Closed
Winner is #61 Julie~ Congratulations!

Hey friends! I am so excited to be working with Coca-Cola on the launch of their new website called Cooking with Coke- a site dedicated to Coke-loving moms and families. Celebrity chefs Ingrid Hoffman and G. Garvin are featured on the site and they both share their memories of Coca-Cola along with some great recipes. I am sure Coca-Cola has been a part of your family gatherings, barbecues, parties and just everyday life since you were a kid. I know it has been that way for me! I have passed along my love for Coke with my kiddos and they always insist on the Coca-Cola brand every time we shop.

Cooking with Coke is intended for moms and families to share their recipes and stories with others. I think most of you will agree that food and Coke are a great combination! Here is my recipe. I loved browsing through the recipes of other fellow Coke lovers.
One of my Coke memories~ Check out these Coke bottles we have had since 1999 (still with 12+ year old Coke in them). They were given to us by my mother-in-law as a souvenir from when the Super Bowl came to Miami, January 31, 1999. We had moved up north but Miami was always in our hearts so it was a big deal when they had the big game in our hometown. We also have some Florida Marlins Coke bottles (when they won the World Series in 1997) in our storage room. Hmm, maybe I should re-do my kitchen with a Coca-Cola theme?!
For the giveaway: In an effort to help promote the Cooking with Coke site, Coca-Cola is providing an Ingrid Hoffmann 12qt Tamale Pot and Steamer with Lid by T-fal® {$59 value} to give away to one lucky Momfiles reader! Nice huh? Imagine all the new food memories you can create with this beauty...
To enter *Mandatory: You must go to the Cooking with Coke site and submit your favorite recipe. It does not have to contain Coke as an ingredient. It's really easy (I promise)- You connect through Facebook and it brings up a simple form to add your recipe with an option to add a photo and to share a memory. It can be as simple as a drink or a dessert. You can refer to my recipe as an example. You must then leave the link to your recipe. If you do not leave your link then your entry will not be valid and it will be deleted. This will count as 5 entries (just leave the link and #1, #2 etc... as an individual comment)

You can gain additional entries by any of the following:
~ "like" Momfiles and Coca-Cola on Facebook and leave your name you are liking from
~ Follow Momfiles and Coca-Cola on Twitter (leave your Twitter name)
~ Tweet this (once a day):

Purex® Complete with Zout® | Review & Giveaway

Contest Closed
Winners are #118 Jim & #57 Kittenish~ Congratulations!

As a member of the Purex Insiders, I was happy to receive a bottle of the new Purex® Complete with Zout®. I was even happier that is was the Free & Clear version since my 16 year old is allergic to most scented laundry detergents. It comes in both Free & Clear and also Fresh Morning Burst scent. Purex® Complete with Zout® combines the proven performance of Purex detergent with the triple-enzyme stain-fighting power of Zout® pretreater. This powerful combination works to get stains out the first time, even tough stains like grass, chocolate, and tomato sauce. The best part is that you can't beat the price!

A cool thing about Purex® Complete with Zout® is that it can be used in both traditional and HE machines. The Greener Good | Review & Giveaway

{Closed}

I recently had the pleasure of receiving some wonderful green products from The Greener Good. The Greener Good is the ultimate resource for going green. They provide products, services, and educational opportunities for those interested in greening their homes, lives, and families. The Greener Good product offering includes home, lawn & garden, home improvement, cleaning, apparel, body, baby and pet products. I checked several items that I thought were so unique and I am so loving the bamboo tops and skirts.

I received a Recycled Canvas Eco Tote Bag along with the matching Eco Key Fob, a container of OXY-Boost Ultra-Concentrated Destainer & Deodorizer, a bar of The Laundress Wash & Stain Bar, and a packet of The Laundress Stain Solution.

I will say that the Canvas Eco Tote Bag is so impressive if you see it in person. It is HUGE and actually has pockets inside. The quality is top notch and I really love the way it is designed. This would be great for day trips or even as an overnight bag. The key fob is perfect for having your ID card for work or school easily accessible as well as the zipper pocket to store debit cards, business cards, cash etc... Of course I have a teenagers who called dibs on these items~ We'll see what happens with that!

I was very excited to try out the OXY-Boost since the container said "earth health & pet friendly". If you are an animal owner you know how important it is to be extra cautious with what cleaning agents you use around them and on their washable items. I read up a bit on the OXY-Boost and found out that it is a safe alternative to traditional chlorine-based products. Its safe to use on most washable fabrics and is compatible with other household cleaning agents. Also, it produces no harmful by-products which negatively affect the environment. Unlike chlorine bleach, which can merely cover up a stain, Oxy-Boost attacks and breaks down organic stains to totally remove them from the garment. I decided to give it a try on my 3 year old's sneakers. They were covered in dirt, dust and grass stains. I threw them in the washing machine along with some other shoes and I was so pleased with the result!

Check out these before and after shots. His shoes look brand new again!

I am also in love with The Laundress Wash & Stain bar and how cute is that name?! I really like the scent and lather (just like a bar of soap) and the way it worked on my husband's shirts. I used it to scrub the collars and cuffs and was very happy with how clean they came out. I hate to sound like a cleaning geek but I found it really relaxing and fun using the Wash & Stain Bar!

For more information on The Greener Good products and nationwide shipping, check out www.thegreenergood.com.

Pink Together, Raising Awareness and a Giveaway

**Contest Closed**
Winner is #77 sohamolina~ Congrats!

I am sure that no matter where you shop you have noticed that everything is in pink to represent Breast Cancer Awareness. General Mills created Pink Together. Pink Together is a campaign that aims to raise greater awareness of the disease and to help those touched by breast cancer find strength together. You are encouraged to visit PinkTogether.com, an ever-growing community of hope of more than 680,000 breast cancer survivors and supporters. There you can share stories, post comments of encouragement and send virtual flowers to let someone know you are thinking of him or her. There are so many inspiring stories on there and it is a great feeling knowing that you can get support from others- even from strangers.

To encourage personal connections in the online community, General Mills will donate $1 (up to $20,000) to Komen for each inspirational story submitted, encouraging comment posted, or virtual flower of support sent on PinkTogether.com, and for each shared message of hope posted on Pink Together’s Facebook fan page during the month of October (up to $5,000). This $25,000 is in addition to the $2 million donation General Mills has committed to Komen to advance breast cancer research and support education and community outreach projects.

I was provided with a “Connecting for a Cure” gift pack for spreading the word about this great cause from General Mills through MyBlogSpark. My gift pack included a Pink Ribbon car magnet and key chain, travel mug, and drawstring backpack, along with coupons for free packages of one Big G cereal, Green Giant® Frozen Veggies, Macaroni Grill® Dinner Kit, Fiber One® Bars and Progresso® Soup . All of the items included in the gift pack are from ShopKomen.com, where 25% of the merchandise purchase price benefits Komen. Let me tell you, there are some cute things on the site for all pink lovers!

Family Taco Night (giveaway)

**Contest Closed**
Winner is #43 Shirley~ Congratulations!

I don't know about you but our family loves to have family taco night at least every 4-6 weeks. It's a fun way to get everyone to sit together, chat and share some good laughs while keeping the cost low. I received a "family taco night" prize pack that included a packet of Old El Paso Taco Seasoning, a Cactus Chip & Dip Serving dish, a set of 3 Fiesta Chili Pepper serving dishes and a $10 gift card to purchase our taco fixings.

We went with the Old El Paso Gordita dinner kit and also the Old El Paso traditional soft taco tortillas. You can go here to print a coupon for $0.60 off any two Old El Paso products.
I used some chicken tenders that I sliced thinly and cooked it according to the seasoning packet instructions. I added a handful of fresh chopped cilantro for extra flavor and it came out perfect.
My family sticks to the traditional toppings like shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, a mixture of shredded cheeses and some ranch sauce (included in the dinner kit I purchased).
Here is the finished product. They came out so tasty and was ready in about 20 minutes. We all sat at the table and joked around a good bit. I used to work at a fast food taco joint when I was younger so my husband had great fun talking about old times :)
How would you like to win your own family taco night prize pack? You will get the same prize pack I received which are pictured below and a $10 gift card (not pictured)
Here's how to enter:
Mandatory- Tell us what you would do to make your family taco night special. Maybe you can tell us what unusual toppings or main ingredients you like in your tacos.
