Family * Travel * Food

Why is it so difficult?

These days little William is a chatterbox. It's so much fun listening to all the new words he adds to his vocabulary daily. You can ask him to say and word and he will do his best to say it. He says everything from all the names of his family members, fruits and food items, toys, book titles and so much more. Why is it when we ask him to say William he freezes up? He knows his name but refuses to say it. I don't get it! He refers to himself as "I Baby". Here I was thinking that naming him William would be simple and turns out it is really hard for him!

Have you ever been through this with your toddler or know anyone that has? What the heck do you do?

The boy who refuses to grow up

Our family took a last-minute trip to the mall today to get some volleyball shoes for the girls. As soon as we entered it was like Christmas to who other than Dwayne. He gets all excited when he sees the gumball machines and before he could ask if anyone else wanted a gumball he was already getting a couple for himself.

Look, he has cheeks filled with gumballs. He got all bent out of shape when Brie put her quarter in one of the machines and got two for the price of one. He actually pouted *shakes head* Y'all shoulda heard him smackin' loudly. He said it was very necessary to chew like that. Like I say, if I never had a son I would not have missed out on much.

And the Mom of the Year Award goes to....

Obviously NOT Shelly Ismail!!!

Look at what her son is doing *sighs*

Let me explain...We had company staying for a couple days and William's little furniture on wheels usually covers this outlet as well as his monitor unit is plugged in this outlet. We did not think to put safety covers on. Obviously this did not hinder two cousins from having some rowdy fun!

Teef!

This boy LOVES brushing his teeth. He wants to do it at least 6 times a day. He yells out "Teef, teef!" If only he could learn how to swish and spit. We would be good to go then!

WTH? Wednesday

Hey friends! I am really having a WTH kind of week. I need to ask something and I am really embarrassed and don't know how to ask it. Here it goes.... Is it normal for little boys to umm....well.... hump people? I am so grossed out by how my little William presses his little boy parts all up on people!!! Please, I have never seen this. I want your input on any experience you have had with this. I really need to know that other parents have seen this kind of ickyness.

Are you having a WTH moment? Please share it with me!!

Wordless Wednesday

*Dwayne took these. I guess chopping the head off is the new trend in photography.

Look at what your boy found....

Dwayne and I were taking a little drive this evening and on the way home he took a little detour. Of course I knew he had to be up to something. He pulled over on a dead end street and jumped out and came back with a bag filled with these funky dirty golf balls. Then he brings them in the house and puts them in my kitchen sink to wash them off *BIG sigh* I asked him why he needed 50+ golf balls and he tells me "I was doing my civic duty to remove them from the roadway to protect the citizens of my fine city. We would not want anyone to have an accident". So I asked him "What do I do with you?" Of course he tells me I should go play some golf with him.

I know I say it all the time...

The male species...the ickiest species EVER! My son has started the popular man trend of putting his hand in the front of his pants (under the diaper). I will never understand the need to fondle the man parts. I know you ladies (and men) know what I am talking about! UUUGGHHH!!! So so icky!!

False accusations

Ever have those days that you hear a noise in the distance and you automatically assume your little one is up to no good? Well William had been getting in trouble all morning and I had to keep "speaking loudly". I thought he was messing with the TV and cable box but instead this is what he was doing.

Not forgetting where you come from

Your boy Dwayne is just not right. Why does he feel the need to keep this bag? He tells me it is a reminder of where he comes from. I'm telling you, I don't know what to do with this man! UGH!!!!

What I've learned about boys

I remember for so many years watching moms and dads with their sons and seeing the struggle they would have. I thought to myself "Can't they keep that boy under control?". I thought maybe the parents weren't being assertive enough and they always said that boys have a lot of energy. I guess I can understand that to a certain extent. Now that I have a boy of my own I FULLY understand. I grew up with sisters and most of my cousins and friends had girls. William is an energy packed toddler that's for sure! He climbs everything and seems to have no fear. I don't think there is anything he won't try to do given the chance. Standing on a table is not unusual for him. He learned how to go up and down the stairs in our house on his own. Sometimes he will just stand on a step halfway and I panic! He just laughs.

It's so hard sometimes to discipline him since he smiles and laughs ALL the time. You swat him on the bottom and he "wipes" it off and smiles. *sighs* I have to hold back from laughing and some days I just can't help myself. In 19 days William will be two. Wow. I guess for all the terrible two's shenanigans we bypassed with the girls, William will more than make up for it!

William update

Well little William is 21 months and is one curious and active toddler! He is always on the go and he loves for you to chase him around the house. He discovered how to hide. I really don't know how he knows but he does and he has specific little places he loves to go. He likes to peek at you and giggles while you are "looking for him". Sneaky fella! He is really starting to grow in ways that he shows he has a good sense of what is going on and is starting to listen. Yes, I did not think it would happen this soon that he will actually listen (sometimes). He has the most scrumptious smile and he knows how to flash em when he's doing naughty things!

William enjoyed Christmas as much as any toddler would. The wrapping paper was the biggest attraction and he really could care less about his new loot. He is finally somewhat starting to show some interest in toys so what we do is keep a few different ones out for several days and then swap them out for new ones to keep things fresh. He still loves books. They are at the top of his list. Dwayne takes him out in the back yard as often as the weather allows so he can run wild. He loves the outdoors. A strange thing about him is he is very good when he has to brush his teeth or get his nails trimmed. He really loves both of those things! I can't believe how still he stays for it. We have been sitting him on the potty seat before bath time...mind you he is in NO WAY ready for it but we are getting him in the practice of sitting on it. I don't like the pee pee shield. They are scrapey!

We are really enjoying watching the little guy grow and develop. He brings our whole family so much joy and we look forward to him getting older and learning all he can. We are still waiting for the talking part but in due time. He is showing signs of wanting to have conversation so that is a step. He's a happy and healthy boy and that is all we can ask for!

Decent photos to come soon!

Terrible Two's so soon?

Someone please tell me that the toddler/terrible two's stage does not last forever. Seriously, we have never been through this before because the girls were complete angels. This little boy can really try your patience. If something is in his way he will pick it up and throw it, no matter what the item is. I can't get the boy to sit still except maybe for a meal, but know that he will be back up and running the second he swallows the last morsel. Temper tantrums with back arching and all?? really?? Please tell me he will get some kind of an attention span. Please!!

He is still not quite talking as yet. The doctor tells us it's normal and not to worry since he is doing so well in every other way. That's really not good enough for us. William shows that he knows what's going on and can follow commands but still won't speak. It is really frustrating but we continue to do our best working with him. He will occasionally say something out of the blue and we all get so excited. All of my friends and family tell me that before long I will be begging him to shut up and I should enjoy the peaceful quietness while I can. Has anyone had a late talker in the family? Please tell me I am not alone.

*Sorry for all my whining. Now I will go back to my usual cheery happy self :)

The boy just loves books!

You gotta love this kid. He's really "into" books!! We keep a bin just for books and somehow he always manages to sit IN the bin! I am so glad he was occupied so I could snap a few photos :)

Who needs real toys anyway?

Our William is still not a big toy fan. He'd much prefer a book or Milo's dog toys! Thankfully Will does not put things in his mouth so there is no harm. Silly boy!

Don't let the cute face fool you

I snapped some photos of Hurricane Willie in the act of being naughty. He should NOT be standing on this trunk. See the blanket on the floor? It's Milo's (our chihuahua) and Will moves it so he can stand on Milo's trunk. Yes our dog has a trunk at the front window. He likes to see the goings on in the neighborhood, don't judge!

Look at that devilish little grin.

He always smiles AFTER the act of mischief. Dwayne does the same thing. Bad tail.

He gets a kick out of sitting on the fireplace. It's a little scary and Dwayne actually thinks we will still be able to burn fires this winter, yeah okay.

He looks like he is planning his next caper!

Whos' the bigger kid?

Yesterday evening I went to the store (with the red circles) with Dwayne and William. We were out for specific items and I wanted to get what we needed and get out of that busy place. Dwayne decided that we needed to walk through the toy aisles, excluding the girly ones that had everything in shades of pink with spark;es. He wanted to see all things boy (man). He was in awe of all the army men, robots, car & trucks, superheroes, bug looking things... He was in toy heaven. We saw this fighter pilot headset that was cool (I admit it) and it was $40. Now y'all know my cheap husband was insisting it better be able to tell the future for that price hahaha! He was showing William all these things that he needs to be at least 4 or 5 to even play with. You should to see all the excitement in Dwayne's face. William, not so much. Dwayne tried to pick up at least 3 things that I had to convince him we did not need and you should have seen the pouty face! I learned something. Do not take Dwayne to stores that sell toys. Leave him HOME!
