Family * Travel * Food

Monday Randoms

Weekends are really not good for me. I really don't like them. When the husband and kids are home I am miserable. Sounds terrible huh? Well the reason for my miserableness is because I get too damn cozy when they are around. I eat too much foolishness and it goes on from Saturday morning until Sunday midnight. I eat more in those 2 days than I do all week long. It's not right. I need to do better than that. *sighs*

On a better note I have been using regular body products on William. It has been working out really well since he has really good skin to begin with. Now he shares cocoa butter lotion with Papo. Cheaper too. Speaking of William, I found a way to tame him. If he is acting up and needs some distraction to calm down all I have to do is ask him if he wants to brush his teeth. Strange I know. He loves to get his teeth brushed. Lets hope it stays this way.

I am locking myself in the house today to clean. It appears that a small storm blew through while we were sleeping last night. It blew in more dirty laundry too. Well I better get to work. I am sure I will have something more interesting to say tomorrow. Maybe.

Are you prepared for Hurricane Season?

**Contest Closed**
Winner is #41 thatlittlehouse

I was contacted by my friends at Energizer to share some very important news with you about weather safety and preparedness. I know we can all agree that no matter where you live in the world, we are all affected by the weather in some way. It is officially Hurricane season and it is so important to be prepared (just in case). Dwayne and I went through Hurricane Andrew back in 1992 and lost EVERYTHING. The one thing I can say I am so happy about is the fact that we took the time to prepare. Most of the people I knew at that time in Miami laughed it off thinking that the weather stations were exaggerating and trying to scare us. I took the warning to heart. I bought a small radio (with batteries), a flashlight and some candles. Thank goodness I listened to my heart. We were blasted with 100+ mph winds with flooding rain like you have never seen in your lifetime. It was the scariest time of our lives. You did not know if you would make it out alive. I am so thankful we had those few emergency items because living in pitch blackness with no roof over your head and no electricity for 2 weeks is not fun. After going through such devastation we have learned to always be prepared for emergencies. I have even over-purchased items (that we would use anyway) and store them in the event of an emergency. Here is a complete checklist of things you should have to be sure your family is prepared to face Hurricane season and other weather related occurrences.

The Energizer company provided us with an emergency kit that is filled with some very handy and helpful items. The kit includes 1 Weather Ready flashlight with batteries, 1 small battery operated radio with batteries, 1 cellphone charger (charges MP3's and Bluetooth as well), 3 packs of assorted batteries and 1 red cinch bag to keep all your emergency items together. We will choose a specific location in our home that the whole family can access the kit in the event of an emergency. My husband has also included our own personal emergency manual to keep in our bag as well.

How would you like the win one of these emergency kits for your family? Good news, Energizer is providing one extra kit to give away to 1 Momfiles reader!

Simple living

I was listening/watching a segment on one of the big network news channels yesterday while I was doing a few random things in the house. The show was about Baby Boomers and there were a bunch of interviews with some of those Baby Boomers talking about life back in the 60's on into the present. Some of these older folks had lots of money and did a lot in their time. One lady said something that really made so much sense. She said something along the lines about how in this day we think we are supposed to pack up our SUV's and drive across the state just to watch a soccer game. She then went on to say, what's wrong with playing soccer in the backyard? One gentleman was making a hearty 6 figure income and has been on the job hunt for 2 years. He has come up with nothing. He was even more than happy to take a job that would pay 1/4 of his past income. Still nothing. The Baby Boomers all came to one conclusion- We need to go back to the ways of our parents. The simpler times where community togetherness matters, where kids did not have to be involved in so many different activities at once and realizing that you don't need all that "stuff" you are lead to believe you should have.

Simple living. It really is a great thing.

Look at what your boy found....

Dwayne and I were taking a little drive this evening and on the way home he took a little detour. Of course I knew he had to be up to something. He pulled over on a dead end street and jumped out and came back with a bag filled with these funky dirty golf balls. Then he brings them in the house and puts them in my kitchen sink to wash them off *BIG sigh* I asked him why he needed 50+ golf balls and he tells me "I was doing my civic duty to remove them from the roadway to protect the citizens of my fine city. We would not want anyone to have an accident". So I asked him "What do I do with you?" Of course he tells me I should go play some golf with him.
