Tips for Traveling with Children

Family vacations are an important part of everyone’s childhood, so you’ll want to make sure your kids have as much fun as possible. But this is easier said than done. As a busy mom, you always have so many things to think about, but planning your upcoming getaway doesn’t have to be as stressful as you might think. Take a look at these top tips for going abroad with your children:

Family Travel Insurance
You don’t want to think about it, but accidents do happen. In the event that you or your child becomes ill or injured while on vacation, you’ll want to know that all costs are being taken care of. It might be tempting to skip the insurance, especially if all your other trips have gone off without a hitch, but it’s just not worth the risk. Take a look at insurance plans (see safetrip for example) before taking off.

Entertainment
Depending on where you’re going on holiday, there might be a long flight or car ride involved. Even if your travel time is only a couple of hours, don’t assume your kids will sleep all the way there. If anything, they’re likely to be wide awake and buzzing with excitement. So, if you want to avoid questions of “are we there yet?” five minutes into your journey, you’d best bring along some games. These don’t have to take up a lot of space, but an activity book, handheld console, or travel-friendly board game can keep kids occupied for at least a little while.

Bring Snacks
You and your partner might be looking forward to trying the local cuisine, but your kids might not share your views. If your little ones are picky eaters, make sure to bring along a couple of their favorite snacks to keep them going in between meals. While it’s important to encourage them to try new things, if they really don’t take to any new dishes, you may have to hunt down a few child-friendly restaurants that cater to tourists.

Stay Close
Kids love a bit of independence while on holiday and often strike up friendships with other families staying in the same resort. But don’t let your little ones stray too far or go off with strangers – even if they are the family staying next door. Sit by the side of the communal pool to keep an eye on them playing or try to have a group meal with the other guests your child has befriended. You don’t want your children getting lost in unfamiliar places, so offer to go with them to explore play areas.

Leave Extra Time
Whenever you’re going somewhere with kids, you have to factor in time for inevitable moods, tantrums, or lost socks. If you’re often rushing to get out of the house in the morning, leave even more time before your flight. The last thing you want is to miss the plane because your kids couldn’t find their favorite stuffed animal and refused to leave the house.

Tips When Planning to Travel Around the Country

Everyone loves to travel, but they are not always willing to make the sacrifice for it. We take one day off during the weekend, and try to visit as many places in as short a time as possible. This is not the way to travel and truly enjoy tourism. You might get good photos to post on social media, but you're not likely to get the full benefit of travel for relaxation and enjoyment if your time is limited.

Stay for a While
You don’t get to experience anything when you go anywhere for a short time. You only see things that people have set up for tourists. You go to those famous places where there are many other people like you, and eat food from popular restaurants. If possible, you should move to the city for a few months if you really want to experience their culture. With the help of a moving company, traveling and staying from one city to another will be easier.

Take on a Job for the Experience
If you are going to live in a new city for a few months, you will definitely need some money. That’s why you should find yourself a job. You will be able to meet many new people and experience the local culture. However, make sure you find a job of your interest, not something that is too hectic, even if it pays well. Since you are going to live there for some time, you will have more time to explore and discover new places.

Avoid Tourist Season
There is usually a season when everyone heads to the popular tourist spots. This tends to fall during the summer months as well as during the winter holidays. That’s the time you need to avoid. There are way too many people during this season, and locals are only focused on making profits instead of providing an experience. You will see that all good spots become very commercial, and since every business have a greater volume of customers, they may not give their best service possible.

Get Up Early
If you want to save time, you need to avoid crowds. Wherever you are going, set an alarm to get up early. You won’t see a lot of people out and about if you get up and leave early. You will save time on the trip and get to enjoy the tourist spots before it gets too crowded.

Don’t Be in a Rush
Since you have made time to go and enjoy your time, do it properly. Don’t try to cut short time and get more done in little time. You are traveling, not working where you need to save time. Don’t be afraid to spend hours throughout the day experiencing moments that truly feed your soul.

Talk to People
You might be an introvert, but you should get out of your comfort zone to enjoy traveling. It’s not very difficult to open up and talk to locals to learn about their culture. They can put you on to places to go or even free things to do in the area you might not have known about.

Don’t Just Take Photos
You should take photos to make memories, but that should not be all. Many of us are only focused on getting good shots that we can show off to our friends and families. No one cares about how good photos you have taken. You should focus on enjoying and living the moment. Leave the camera aside for some time and try activities. Make memories but there is no law that says you should photograph them.

4 Strategies for Staying Healthy This Summer

With Summer just around the corner, it is important to keep the health of you and your family top of mind. Whether you are staying home all summer or looking to take a trip, knowing how to create and maintain some healthy habits is crucial. Here are some ways to keep you and your loved ones happy and healthy this summer.

Stay hydrated

With the summer heat building up during these longer days, it is important to keep yourself hydrated. Suffering from dehydration can lead to health problems like headaches, fainting, and even heat stroke. Keeping a reusable water bottle with you at all times can ensure you are drinking enough water daily. If you have children that struggle with picky eating habits and who hate the taste of plain water, consider infusing it with some of their favorite fruits. Using strawberries or lemons can give the water a fresh taste and encourage them to drink more!

Keep protected

Having fun in the sun is a great way to stay active and curate some healthy habits. Going to the beach, taking a hike, or any outdoor activity is great for getting the right amount of exercise. When you are outdoors it is incredibly important to keep yourself protected from the sun. Having a strong and dependable sunscreen will keep you and your family safe from the dangers of sun exposure. Too much sun can lead to conditions like sunburn, sun poisoning, and sunstroke. While wearing accessories like hats can also help create a barrier between you and the sun, you should be vigilant with applying and reapplying sunscreen.

Be prepared

With summer being the perfect time for spontaneity, it is essential to have a go-bag prepped in advance with the little things you might normally forget on a trip. Having this bag ready will help you cover your bases and decrease the stress of forgetting important items on your journey. Include the things you and your family will most certainly need, like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap—any and all of your basic hygiene items are generally necessities for a trip.

Also be sure to include a stocked first aid kit that makes sense for you and your family’s needs. If anyone suffers from severe or life threatening allergies, you should pack an EpiPen to be safe.  Similarly, if you or a loved one has vision issues you should make sure you include prescription contacts in the kit. Having a fresh pair of contacts available can save you if you lose or break your glasses and can’t immediately replace them. Being prepared for any scenario will help keep you and your family safe this summer wherever you are.

Practice self-care

Taking care of your health is more than taking care of just your physical health; your mental health is a large component of your overall wellness. After all of the changes 2020 brought, the world opening up can cause a great deal of anxiety for those who haven’t experienced the hustle of crowds in a long time. Make sure you make time to practice self-care in whatever way you need to keep your mental health in check. This could include taking walks alone, picking up a journal, or spending time meditating. Talking as a family about how to combat any anxieties you may be facing can be a great way to keep the lines of communication open about mental health as well.

Keeping up with healthy habits is a great way to maintain a positive lifestyle this summer. As a family, it is important to work together and help each other stay as happy and healthy as possible.

6 Things To Do On A Family Vacation In Greece

Greece is one of the most beautiful regions in the world.  Steeped in rich history, there is so much to see, do and learn. Art, culture, food, and archelogy are plentiful, which means that everyone in your party will find something to enjoy! Check out our ‘must dos’ below.

1. Go Island Hopping

With literally hundreds of options, you’ll never be bored of exploring! The best way to get around is by boat. There are amazing Lefkas boat rentals with 12 Knots so you can speed through the seas in style. You can choose to have the boat on its own or with a crew so you can have as little or as much control as you want. The top five most popular to visit are Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu, Crete and Zakynthos.

2. Visit The Acropolis

Athens’s stunning Acropolis is home to incredible architecture, temples, and the towering Parthenon. Made up of marble that glistens in the sunlight, the monuments are breathtaking and a must-see for history buffs and children who are eager to be educated on history.

3. Sun Yourself In Santorini

Not only one of the most famous of the Greek isles, Santorini is also saturated with some of the most Insta-worthy locations in the Aegean Sea. The island itself has been shaped by a volcanic eruption over 3000 years ago. This offered the island the basis to build the signature cliffside white buildings with domed roofs.  Nothing screams picture-postcard perfect more than the tiny, cobbled streets with views of the stunning blue ocean, surrounded by white and blue houses – perfect for a cocktail hour!

4. Learn About Greek Mythology At Mount Olympus

The home of Zeus and other popular Greek Gods, Olympus towers 2917 above sea level. Trekking to the top may be difficult with kids, but there is plenty to see and do near the base.  If your family are keen swimmers or you just want to reconnect with nature, a visit to the Orlias Waterfalls near Litohoro – perfect for a sun-drenched splash spot. There’s also the archaeological park and museum in Dion if you’re more interested in learning about the incredible history of the area.

If your kids love the theatre and being creative, take them to the Epidaurus Theatre in Argolis. They can let their imaginations run wild as they put on shows to a pretend crowd. If they love mythology, they can recreate some of the most famous stories such as Hercules, Clash of the Titans, and Icarus. Ten points for the most convincing Minotaur impression!

6. Take A Ride At The Melissani Cave

Hop over to the island of Kefalonia and head over to the beautiful Melissani Cave. Stretching out of 4km, the craggy rocks are home to the Melissani lake, which can be explored by boat. Settle in and let your guide explain the history of the cave and how it got its namesake from the water Nymph Melissani.

Slip and Fall in a Hotel? What to Do Next

Whether you are a guest at a hotel or a visitor, it is the hotel's responsibility to ensure that you are safe while on their premises. This means that the hotel must do its part to prevent injuries to its patrons. If you had a slip and fall during your visit to a hotel, here are some things you should know.

Determining if a Hotel Is Liable

Just because you have an accident or sustain an injury while you are on a business’ premises doesn't necessarily mean that the business can be held responsible. When it comes to slip and fall injuries, you must prove that their negligence caused you to be injured for the hotel to be liable. Some instances where a hotel might be negligent would be:
  • Spills left unattended
  • Failure to place wet floor signs
  • Inadequate lighting.
While many more situations could result in a hotel guest being injured, the above mentioned could lead to a slip-and-fall accident.

Proving the Hotel Was Negligent

Because a hotel has a duty to ensure that guests are in a safe environment, they must ensure that repairs are done in a timely fashion, spills are cleaned up, et cetera. If a quick fix is not possible, the hotel must place signs in a conspicuous area so that guests are aware of any dangers.

When a hotel or even their workers fail to take all reasonable measures to ensure guests’ safety, this is where they could be liable if someone were to be harmed on the hotel premises

Their Negligence Caused the Injury

Although there might be some obvious negligence on the hotel's part, such as a light being out, a crack in the ground, or a spill on the floor, it must have been the direct cause of your injury.

For example, if you fell because your shoe was untied while there was also a spill on the floor, your fall was not directly caused by the spill. However, if you were walking and slipped on a wet floor with no wet floor sign in sight, this could fall on the hotel's shoulders.

There Must Be an Actual Injury

To have grounds for a personal injury case, you would need to have sustained some substantial injury that required medical treatment, hospitalization, time off work, etc. In other words, the fall must have caused you some kind of loss, such as lost wages, impaired mobility, or disability to receive compensation.

Find an Experienced Attorney

The hotel industry is big business, which also means they typically have a lot of money to spend on top-notch legal representation. After sustaining an injury at a hotel, one of the first things you should do after getting medical treatment is to contact an attorney.

It would help if you chose an experienced attorney dealing with claims against hotels, especially regarding slip and fall injuries. This is because no matter how clear cut you think your case is, you must be able to prove it.

Final Thoughts

While it is vital to seek legal representation for slip and fall injuries, the first thing you should do is go see a doctor. Not only is this important so you can make sure you are okay, but you will need this documentation later on if you plan to file a lawsuit against the hotel.

Remember, there is no real "injury" unless the loss was substantial, and only a certified medical professional can truly assess the extent of your injuries.

Top Tips To Plan A Fishing Trip With Your Family

If you’re planning a fishing trip with your family, the details may feel somewhat overwhelming, especially if your children are still relatively young. There’s no doubt you want your kids’ first fishing experience to be a memorable time, so we have listed some top tips to help you plan a successful outdoor getaway. These tips will also help your youngsters fall in love with nature and all the wonders it offers.

Pack The Right Gear For Little Hands

There is a significant difference between junior fishing gear and adult fishing gear, so you will want to kit your kids out with the right stuff. While you should also determine the right equipment for yourself based on the type of fish you will be hoping to catch, the time of year is also an essential factor to consider. If you are a seasoned angler, you probably already know all the specifics of fishing with the right saltwater spinning reels and picking the best bait. However, if you aren’t yet an expert, delving into some research is the best way to find out which gear is best for everyone as there are many variables to consider.

Camping, Glamping, Or Staying For The Day

Fishing requires ample patience, which is why most expert anglers plan a weekend getaway to indulge in the activity. However, planning a day fishing trip is also an option. On the other hand, parents with older children might decide that roughing it in the wild with a camping experience is a great decision. If your kids are still tots, glamping or RV camping might be the better solution as your little ones will have significantly more comforts to enjoy and will be less likely to long for their home during the trip.

Bring Entertainment

Instead of assuming that a fishing experience is enough to hold your kids' attention, it is best to bring along some other forms of entertainment. As mentioned, fishing does require patience, and it is not realistic to expect the experience to be constantly thrilling. While waiting for fish to bite, your kids may become somewhat bored and disinterested. To help your little ones stay entertained, bringing along some outdoor games and even ordinary toys can make a massive difference.

Let Your Little Ones Enjoy Nature

Even though your trip is based on a fishing experience, you should allow your little ones to explore the great outdoors. Depending on where you will be going, you may find that certain spots include hiking trails suitable for youngsters. Including nature exploration into your fishing trip will encourage your kids to fall in love with nature as they discover how freeing it is to explore the outdoors. A relaxing walk on a nature trail can be a stimulating experience for a young mind that will be experiencing the depths of nature for the first time. Encouraging a love for nature is beneficial for countless reasons, which is why parents around the world consider outdoor activities before others.

Comprehensive Guide to Purchasing the Right Jeans

Are you thinking of what to wear to work, on a date, or even a weekend vacation? Then you cannot go wrong with a pair of denim, whether it be Levi's, Wrangler, or any other brand. Selecting this outfit means that you have to consider style and comfort. Interestingly, these jeans come in several colors, cuts, fabric, and washes. They are also designed to fit specific body shapes. Hence, what looks terrific on you may be terrifying on someone else, and vice-versa. Bear in mind that there is no one-size-fits-all style. However, choosing a denim outfit can be challenging for anyone. But with the right cut, you should have no problem achieving the perfect look.

Denim for All-Day Activities
Do you know that you can rock your jeans all through the day while attending several contrasting activities? Having the right pair can offer you this versatility. For example, dark-blue jeans can go with your office work and your dinner date – all you need is a different top, shoes, and accessories to match. You can always rely on your denim for any event wherever you are in the world. Travel from the United States to any country without worrying about changing your attire!

Another factor worth noting about denim is that it augments your skin tone. Depending on the hue you select, your outfit can enhance your beauty and leave you looking like a fashion model. It is easy to highlight your curves (hips and thighs) with the right pair of jeans in the same vein. Additionally, you can also assume a different cool-looking appearance with baggy jeans – depending on what you want to achieve. What matters is having the right top and footwear to go with it.

Men Are Not Left Out
What better way to reveal your masculinity than to rock a pair of classic denim? You can engage in any activity with either blue or black jeans, with less concern about your shape. Of course, you don’t need that as a man. The focal point is the end-use of your jeans. For formal occasions, you should get a tailored pair. But if you are to perform general tasks, then classic jeans are the way to go. In recent times, clothing companies manufacture denim with longer inseams to accommodate an individual’s legs.

If you are looking for an ideal pair of jeans, you should opt for boot-cut or straight-leg denim. One area of concern for most men is the selection of color. It is common to believe that brightly-colored jeans are for those with preppy looks with various luxury items – a misconception that holds no grounds.

Your Comfort Should Always Come First
When shopping for your everyday denim or occasional jeans, do not disregard comfort. Your outfit should mould with your outline and make it easy for you to move around. Good jeans stretch and retract to their initial form without any damage to the fabric. You can experiment with either an over-sized or small-size outfit to determine your best fit.

Visitors rave about the snorkeling, fishing, and of course, the Key Lime Pie. If you’re ready to book a week-long or weekend getaway, here are 9 excursions that should make it onto your itinerary.

1. Dry Tortugas National Park

This is a gem of the National Park System that sits around 70 miles off the coast of Key West. You’ll need to book a ferry ticket to get there but it’s worth it. The park includes multiple small islands as well as a significant underwater acreage. Snorkeling is a huge draw here, whether you’re new to the sport or highly experienced. Dry Tortugas National Park offers a variety of dive sites, from coral reefs to old shipwrecks, wooden pilings, a moat wall, and more. There’s even a night snorkeling opportunity to see nocturnal sea animals in action.

2. Conch Tour Train

Show up a few hours before the sun goes down to stake out the best spot for sunset viewing. 7. Easton Street Seafood Market

Enjoying freshly-caught seafood is one of the big draws of visiting Key West, and Easton Street Seafood Market is the best place to do it. While Key West may not be known for expansive beaches with miles of sand, it’s city beaches are charming and well worth the visit. Relax under the palm trees at Smathers Beach or if you travel with your dog, visit Higgs Beach, which welcomes beachgoers and their pups. As with most beaches, the earlier in the day you can get there, the better. Beach space fills up fast come afternoon. Beach vendors sell food and drink, and often additional gear like snorkels.

Key West has a world of cultural, historic, and outdoors experiences to enjoy. Building your itinerary in advance helps focus your planning and give you things to look forward to as you prepare for your trip. These experiences in particular showcase the best that Key West has to offer visitors.

How to Choose the Most Reliable Long Distance Mover

Moving is a major aspect of life; at one point, you will either decide or be forced to move due to several reasons such as career prospects, need for a bigger house, a new environment, among other reasons. Regardless, moving is often meant for the betterment of both you and your family. However, moving is usually an arduous and time-consuming task, which can be hard to accomplish if not done properly. This is true if you are conducting a long distance move, such as moving to another state or across the country.

Such a move is not only more costly, but the risks of possible damage are much higher when your belongings are being transported over a long distance. This is why such a move requires serious considerations and planning to ensure that the whole process is completed smoothly without any hitches or losses. Arguably, one of the major factors to consider when planning a long distance relocation is the moving company that you are going to hire. The success and timeliness of your move are highly dependent on the expertise and professionalism of your moving company.

Choosing the wrong moving company can not only leave you frustrated but also suffering huge losses. Your choice of moving company isn't a decision that you should take lightly. With that being said, you might be wondering how one identifies the most reliable long distance movers from the sea of moving companies claiming to be the best at what they do? Fortunately, here we are going to look at some of the top factors to consider when choosing a long distance mover.

1. Experience

As discussed earlier, long distance relocation involves a lot of risks. Hence, to ensure that these risks are minimized, you need to ensure that the company you choose is experienced in long distance moving. A company that is in the business for many years knows how to effectively and safely carry out the move. Their staff is professionally trained, and considering their experience; they are aware of the mistakes that can hamper the success of the move. They know which measures to put in place to avoid these mistakes. They will ensure that your items are well secured and are not exposed to any harm.

Also, they are aware of the legal requirements involving out-of-state moves, for example, additional licenses and paperwork.

2. Licensing and Insurance

The most important factor to consider when choosing a long distance mover is to check the licenses and insurance cover the company has. You should not fear to request the mover to provide you with proof of their license. This will indicate to you that the company is legit and not just another scam off the streets. Licensing and insurance often go hand in hand.

You should find out what insurance they provide to their clients. Find out whether they have replacement value protection, which helps to ensure that your belongings are covered up to a certain amount in case of any damage or loss. It is important to note that even with the best movers, accidents can happen, so you should always be protected.

3. Get a Written Estimates

When conducting a long distance move, a verbal estimate doesn't do you any good. You should request free estimates from various companies. These estimates should be detailed and clearly show what each cost covers. A professional mover should visit your home and assess before giving you the estimate. It is worth noting that a written estimate is legally binding; hence, it provides more guarantee.

When you obtain written estimates from multiple companies, you will be able to see what each company charges for each service. This will help you choose the one that best suits your needs.

4. The Reputation of the Mover

You don't want to hire a long distance moving company without first checking what previous clients are saying about their experience with the company. In addition to requesting a list of references, you should also make use of the internet.

Sites such as Better Business Bureau and Yelp will provide you with an abundance of customer experience information. The FMCSA website is also another website to consider as it provides safety reviews.

5. Signs to Look Out For

Apart from the above factors that you should take into consideration, there are signs you should watch out for to help you identify a potential scam. First of all, avoid companies that demand advance cash payments or unusually large cash deposits. This is a major red flag.

Also, you shouldn't hire a company that makes use of a rental moving truck or a truck that is unmarked. Any serious professional and reliable moving company staff will show up with their truck showcasing the company name or logo.

If the mover insists on carrying out the planning process over the phone, including giving you the estimate over the phone and other planning aspects, then you should move on to the next moving company.

Best Places in Canada for Skiing

As USA Today notes, Whistler Blackcomb is visited by more skiers and boarders than any other resort in North America. If you want to enjoy easy access to some of the world's best slopes, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better place to purchase a vacation home or permanent residence among the Whistler homes for sale.

This huge resort offers everything from beginner to expert terrain across nearly 8,200 acres with over 200 marked trails, bowl, and glade zones. There are three dozen lifts, including a 10-passenger gondola that has the greatest capacity of any lift on the continent bringing 4,000 skiers from the bottom to the top of Blackcomb every hour. Plus, the resort's village is like its own city, with an outdoor skating rink, tube park, and cinema along with countless dining and shopping options.

Sunshine Village, Banff National Park

Banff National Park hosts three ski resorts along the continental divide, with Sunshine Village Canada's highest elevation resort resulting in some of the highest above-the-treeline terrains in the country. Expect spectacular vistas of the dramatic Rocky Mountains in every direction along with challenging, rugged slopes for experts like Delirium Dive, voted as one of the most extreme runs in the world by CNN Travel. It even requires avalanche gear and a buddy. If you aren't up for that much of a heart-pounding thrill, among the 3,300 acres of ski terrain there's everything from groomed cruisers to big bowls too.

Mont Tremblant, Quebec

Mont Tremblant is easily accessible for epic skiing, located 80 miles north of Montreal. Especially picturesque with its storybook feel, it's often compared to Europe's ski towns with a unique Quebecois culture. The walkable village hosts a wide range of international eateries and one of the most vibrant après-ski scenes in the region. But it isn't just about the scenery and after-skiing fun - this is eastern Canada's premier resort with 665 acres of skiable terrain across four mountains with over 2,000 feet of vertical drop. It boasts the province's steepest run with a pitch of 42 degrees providing something for the experts too.

For those that want to switch things up every once in a while, Mont Tremblant also offers ice climbing, snowmobiling, and dog sledding.

Sun Peaks Resort, British Columbia

Sun Peaks, Canada's second-largest resort, is a town of its own, 45 minutes from Kamloops in the British Columbia interior. It has three mountains that are linked, spanning nearly 4,300 acres of diverse terrain - all without the crowds that you'll find in the more popular resorts. There's truly something for everyone from beginners to the advanced, plus the grooming is impeccable. After a day out on the slopes, you'll find a long list of dining options to feed your appetite, from cheap eats to upscale restaurants serving seafood and steaks.
