Get rid of your washing machine funk! (Giveaway)

**Contest Closed**
Winner #72 Sue E. Thanks to all for participating!

My awesome friends at Tide contacted me to try out their new product called Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. Being the big fan of the family of Tide products I was very optimistic. I have a dinosaur washing machine and was afraid that a new product like this would not work for me. Luckily I was wrong! It can be used in all washers. This product was formulated to help clean built-up residue that can re-attach to your clothes. The cleaner comes in a powder form and for me all I had to do was add it straight into my washer (without clothing) and run a normal cycle using hot water. The first thing I noticed was the scent. It is one of those "slap you in the face" kind of fresh scents. I love strong scents when it comes to cleaning products so this was a plus for me. A soon as my washer started to agitate I could smell the freshness traveling up to the top floor of my home. Seriously, my machine smells so good and there is no sign of the funk left over. It is suggested to initially use 1 packet once per week for three weeks and then once per month for maintenance. I will stick a note in my washroom to remind me to clean the washer on a schedule.

**For those of you with HE machines I found out that washing machine odor is actually a common problem with HE washing machines. Since these machines use less water, odor causing residues can build up in unseen places like the back of the drum, hose or drain.

  1. I have an old traditional washing machine and too often get that dirty washer smell. I am sick of doing a whole load of laundry with bleach once a week to try to get rid of it, it only lasts for a while.

  9. One of the best things about HE washing machines is that you don't have to use as much water and detergent, although oftentimes you do have a bit of a difficult time with finding gunk on the sides of the machine as a result. This sounds like a really great product that could help remove all the residue that so often is left behind!

  11. main entry: I have a tip to lend" I leave my washer lid raised all the time when its not in use this will help dry the drum sooner as well as the top inside lid & you can keep a spray bottle near by of 1/2 & 1/2 of water vinegar and spray the inside drum & under lid to help keep away odors too then use this great tide product for the complete cycle to get all parts clean thanks great giveaway!

  59. What a wonderful prize!
I have a front-loading HE washer - and what I do to keep the odor down is this:
once a month I remove the rubber gasket around the inside of the door - and let it dry out since water sometimes gets trapped inside.
Also - I never have the door completely closed when it's not in use. (to keep it aired-out)

  144. I never heard of this but could use it because my washer is smelling kind of funky lately. My tip is to make sure you separate your colored from your whites.

  154. I always always leave the top open to the washing machine. In my mind, this allows the machine to air out. The one thing that I do have a problem with is the inside of the agitator needs to be cleaned - maybe this will help!

  155. I leave the machine door open after using it to try to air it out. It helps for the smell.

  158. I had never heard about this product, but now it makes sense, as washing machines can certainly develop this off smell, which I am sure is not a plus when you are trying to get clean laundry done!

  164. Sometimes someone forgets to take the load out and put it in the dryer. Not only does it make the clothes smell bad it also makes the washer nasty smelling. I really need to use something like this on a regular basis.

  174. I have iron in my water and when I first moved here I used bleach on my white clothes. They
started getting a brown tint to them and the
stains would not come out.I found out from a
plumber when you mix iron and bleach together
    it produces a chemical reaction.So I tried
using Tide with Bleach (not the same) and it works great. So I stand by Tide,it works.

  179. I actually read something the other day about why your laundry might smell. It seems that liquid fabric softener sticks to the outer tub wall and grows all sorts of nasties. Using this helps, as does using laundry balls instead of liquid softener.
