Cooking question

Please don't judge me for asking this question...
Do you reuse cooking oil that you fried food with? I don't know what it is and I get talked about all the time but I am repulsed at the idea of reusing oil! This is the reason I only fry maybe 3-5 times total per year. There is just no way you can get me to use the oil that I fried 3 pounds of fish in next time for chicken. Nope, not happening. I know that when you order something friend in a restaurant that they are using the same oil over and over. I guess as long as I don't see it then I'm okay. I usually let my oil cool all the way down when I finish frying and I fill it in a bottle and throw it in the trash. What about you? What do you do with your used oil?

  1. lol, i personally don't. but my grandmother (in orangeburg) did this religiously! she would also keep the remaining milk from our leftover cereal on Sunday mornings to use in the mac and cheese. definitely an old school thing. at the time we didnt blink an eye, but today the idea seems repulsive.

i personally dont!!! BUT since i saw it growing up and it was such a regular thing, i dont question it or find it weird when i see someone else do it. lmao! i think my mom might save her oil.... i dont remember.

  2. My husband saves his oil. I personally don't, only because I don't fry that often. Maybe twice a year. But when my husband does cook something in the reused oil? Oh,man! It's so good! :)

  3. My mother used to reuse oil and I hated it when my french fries tasted like fish. I save large containers to dispose of the oil if we fry food.

  4. The idea to NOT save never occurred to me. *lol* I re-use oil, but I don't mix. I keep fish, chicken and pork oils separate. I grew up watching my grandmother and mother separate and save, so I run my kitchen the same way. I only keep them for 3-4 fries each, then they get thrown away.

  6. I reuse! I reuse the oil used to fry unseasoned fries 2-3 times. If it's a meat, I'll use it twice. Just recently, I fried some fries and then ended up using the oil in brownies because we ran out of oil. Couldn't tell the difference, lol.

  7. I take that back, it was muffins, not brownies.

  8. My mother reuses her oil. I don't. I also don't really fry a lot of foods though.

  9. I reuse cooking oil. If I've fried chicken or pork chops, I'll reuse it for the same thing. However, I do not reuse oil that fish has been fried in. The taste does really go away.

  10. I never have. But my grandmother did it all the time. She would pour the "grease" into a bucket and store it until she was ready to use it again.
