Why does a baby or toddler need candy?

I have been noticing that a lot of people like to offer my son candy. He is not quite 2 and even if he was, I just don't allow him to have it. I get called mean and get accused of not letting him be a kid. Um, I am his parent thank you. If I say he can't have candy then that is final. I did not let the girls have candy until they were maybe 4 or so and even then, it was very limited. If a child is started off very young eating sugary nothing then they will grow to eat a lot of it. I feel it is so important to teach your children from babies healthy eating habits. I am not saying never give them a Krispy Kreme doughnut or an Oreo but just be careful!

  1. I can't believe people call you mean for that. Where the hell do they get off saying that?

  2. We may give Jay a few skittles or sucker occasionally, but for the same reason we don't want him addicted to the stuff. We don't even give him juice very often. We started out only letting him have it once or twice a day, but he is so into water, we haven't had to buy juice in months.

  3. I don't care if Ari has candy every now and again. She doesn't eat much of it and if she has a sucker I take it away after a few minutes. I don't believe in denying her age appropriate candies that I or her cousins eat - it'll just make her want it more. She's a really healthy eater anyhow so there's no need to deny her the joy of candy every now and then. We also give her fruit snacks (made of pureed apples, no sugar added) and regular fruit so she has healthy options for sweets.

  4. That settles it! You are a mean mom! How dare you want to protect your child from a mouth full of cavities and silver fronts. How dare you provide your children with healthy and well balanced meals.

  5. You're so right. Healthy habits start young. Oh, and people give kids candy to drive their mothers craziER!

  6. People just don't know what discipline is, that's why. As you have said, it's your final say and thumbs up for instilling discipline in your home. That is very important nowadays.
