Raising teen girls

I was having a phone conversation with a good friend the other day and the main topic of discussion was raising teenagers. Having 2 teenage girls at one time has been quite interesting to say the least. Lucky for them I remember very well what it was like to be a teenage girl. I would never want to go back to those years! So far so good with my girls though. They do go through all the emotional stuff and you watch their eating habits flip flop regularly. It is funny how when you are a teenager you think even the littlest thing is the BIGGEST thing in the world. It's as if life is going to end as you know it. I have to constantly remind them that obviously life goes on (I'm still alive and kicking!) They will look back at their teenage years many years from now and wonder why they were so worried over the most insignificant things. History truly repeats itself doesn't it? Some days I feel like choking them but most days I am beyond grateful to have such extraordinary girls! I often wonder what it will be like when William is a teenager. Then again, I can wait! Just let me get through the next few years...

  1. I too have a teenage girl (now 16) and thankfully she isn't putting me through any changes over boys or giving me major attitude. Oh, she does get an attitude now and then plus, she seems to think she knows more than me at times. However, she is still my sweet little girl and for that I am happy.

  2. As you know I have a tween and lord have mercy everyday it's dramatics ( nothing to big) but in her world as you said it's the end of the world lol. Right now we are also in the face of everything she wears has to be black except for her jeans. Black nail polish black converse black shirts. She claims it's all the rage in school lol!

  3. So true @ how history repeats itself. It's humorous in a sense at how I recall many different things about her mom that I notice in my teen daughter i.e. personality, eating habits, laugh, thoughts, everything.

I like to advise her of how I feel she should handle things, based on good decisions and bad decision her parents made.

  4. I'm with you - wouldnt go back to those teenage years. Once was enough! Whew!

I wonder what it'll be like raising two teenage boys since, like you, i'll have two teenagers in the house at the same time! LOL
