William's new book | Rocket Town

We received the cutest new book for William called Rocket Town by Bob Logan. I took the book out of the package and handed it to him and he immediately said "rocket ship!" Look at that big grin! Lately William has shown a big interest in rockets so I knew this book would be right up his alley.

Rocket Town is a very cute board book that shows the adventures of an astronaut and his dog as they travel through where else~ Rocket Town! They encounter all kinds of rockets: a shark rocket, hot air balloon rocket and even a school bus rocket~ this totally fits in with a little one's imagination. There is a countdown at the end that is a big hit with William and he wants you to go back to it over and over again. It's a simple book great illustration.

William really loves pointing out all of his favorite rockets. I think this book is ideal for a little boy and makes a great gift for any occasion. I still prefer board books at this age since boys tend to be a little destructive!
You can purchase a copy of Rocket Town here.

A little about the Author and illustrator: Bob Logan has worked as a story artist on feature animations such as Madagascar and Open Season, as well as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and is currently working on the upcoming Puss in Boots! Logan’s picture book, The Sea of Bath, charmed readers with fun and sweet illustrations, and Rocket Town will delight parents and children alike with colorful and imaginative rockets.

I received a book to review and no other compensation was received. All opinions are 100% mine as always!

Women- Can't we just be happy with what we have?

I love my kids' beautiful bi-racial hair. Their curls are so fun and versatile. They can do so much with their hair unlike mine. If I try to make it do anything it ends up sliding out of the style. Chardie is the typical 16 year old girl obsessed with her hair and looking in every mirror she walks by. She does not care for her natural curls. She opts to straighten it with the CHI flat iron.

Look at how much hair this girl has!! Now this photo is of her brushed out hair so it's not normally poofy like that. When she puts more moisturizer in it her curls are amazing.

Here's what it looks like with the first few bottom layers straightened.

Here's the finished product.

I always tell my girls how lucky they are that they can go straight or curly and always look pretty. They both feel that straight hair is better. Geez, what I wouldn't give for some curls! I guess no matter what your age is, most women always want the opposite of what they have when it comes to hair.

Getting an eye exam

Yesterday afternoon I booked an eye exam appointment for the husband. I have noticed that he has been having a very hard time focusing and squints a whole lot every time he is on the computer, Blackberry, reading or even looking at everyday things. We both grew very concerned that there was a possibility he might need eyeglasses. Enough was enough so off we went to get his eyes checked. Funny thing that it turns out that his vision is perfect. Isn't that something? Dwayne was just suffering from eye strain. The doctor wrote a prescription just in case for night time eyeglasses but did not see the need (right now) for him to wear glasses. This was really good news. So now it is all about making some adjustments to help ease the eye strain. First thing I made him do was buy some sunglasses. I am a firm believer in wearing them at all times when I am outdoors, even when it is overcast. The next thing will have to be less time of the computer since he has to be on it all day for work. I think the smartphone is a culprit as well. I am just glad that we took the time to have his eyes checked to be sure. After all, we only have one set of eyes for life and we better do what it takes to keep them healthy.

Have you ever suffered from eye strain? What steps did you take?

A teeny tiny thank you

I received the most adorable folded note cards the other day from Expressionery.com. They are from a new line of cards called Instant Gratitude Cards. They are really small and can be personalized on the front (blank inside) and come in a pack of 10 for $5.

You can use them for a variety of purposes. Some great ideas are: handing one to your favorite drive-thru worker saying thanks for always making my coffee just right~Maybe putting one in your child's agenda book for the teacher just to say thanks for all she/he does each day for your child~ Your grocery bagger would feel extra special getting one of these cards~ The possibilities are endless! I think I will use these for some surprise muffins I plan to make for my kids' teachers just as a random thing. You never need an occasion to make some one's day! Imagine the impact a tiny card can make on someone.

I received a 10 pack of cards for review purposes. All opinions are 100% mine as always.

10 Facts you didn't know about me

I stole this post idea from my sweet friend Lisa of New York Chica.
  1. I don't like the beach. Sand and sea water, no thanks.
  2. I have not worn a swimsuit in 3 years. My cellulite has gotten worse since having the last kiddo. I'm thinking I need a swim skirt.
  3. I have had a professional manicure/pedicure once in my life.
  4. I dislike shoe shopping.
  5. I think my family might be the only family in America that does not own a gaming system of any kind. We don't plan on ever buying one either.
  6. Although I am not big into travel, I would love to go on an Alaskan cruise before I leave this earth. Oh yeah and I want to go to Las Vegas.
  7. I love foot and neck massages. I just don't like it done by a professional. Something about strangers touching me...
  8. I get really uncomfortable in crowded places and elevators. I will pretend I forgot something just to avoid getting into an elevator with others.
  9. I love beer. I craved it so much when I was pregnant with William. I try not to drink it too much since I think it is the culprit to my weight gain.
  10. Most of my young life I wanted to get a boob job. It took me turning 30 to realize that I was crazy. I am so glad I never went through with it!
Now it's your turn to share some facts about yourself!
