There are teachers, and then there are educators...

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are teachers, and then there are educators...

Hubby saves the day, sort of

This morning my sister and her husband were leaving my house when my brother-in-law tells me "There's a snake under your steps". Of course I just knew he was tricking me because he does that sort of thing all the time. Well, sure enough I could see the body of this snake slithering (I am freaking out at the moment) under my front deck. I instantly call my husband from my cell phone and he ran out to investigate. He goes and grabs a rake (I guess he must have not seen the shovel) and goes on a mission... he had beads of sweat dripping from his forehead... Next thing you know he starts to pretend that he is the Crocodile Hunter!! LOL!! I think his poor acting skills scared the snake away. Of course I will let him think it was his 'manliness' that did the trick! As it turns out, it was just a common garden snake, still a snake though!!

Do you like arcade games?

Remember the old Pac-Man and Frogger games you played when you were a kid (or still do)? You have to check out the links under the "Just for Fun" tab. Moms, if you are at work I suggest you turn the volume all the way down! Don't let the kids catch you playing cause then you might have to share! Have fun!!!

Russell Simmons, Honorable Mention

I was reading an article online this morning about Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons. He said that the recording industry should ban the use of extrememly bad words in music. Yes, there's that old 'Freedom of Speech' thing, but when you are using vulgar words in every other phrase, there is a big problem especially to moms. We care about what our children listen to and unfortunately we can't be there to monitor every second of the day of our childrens' lives. Every time you turn your car radio on, there is a catchy and popular song on that you even find yourself listening to, but when the kids are in the car you change the station because of the suggestive words. I truly hope that Russell Simmons will be able to use his status to bring results. Sadly, we live in a world that obscene language and behavior is acceptable by society. Parent vs Non-Parent

Isn't it funny when your friends or family (that are not parents) often think you are too hard on your children? I often go through it with the 'non-parent'. I assure them that their views will change when they have their own children and I usually get "No, I will never be as mean a mom as you are!". I specifically remember about 10 years ago, one of my dearest friends (non-parent at that time) saw my older child fall and I did not run to console her. My friend started the whole "Aww, poor baby!". I would tell her that I do not pity the child unless she is bleeding or dying (you know what I mean). She thought I was the most horrible person in the whole world. Well, she had her first child 3 years ago and guess what? I go to her house and watch the child bump into the wall or fall on the floor and what do you think she does? She says, "shhh, don't pay any attention to her". How funny!! The same person that was ready to grab my child in her arms and baby her now won't do that for her own child! It is amazing that your mind changes so much when you become a parent.
