Interesting
Unless you are living in a cave somewhere, you are probably aware of the movie that came out this past weekend called Red Tails. I noticed primarily African Americans were pushing others to go support this movie. It was all over Facebook, Twitter, blogs and every website all over the net. A lot of people went out this weekend to check it out. The majority of views loved it and others did not necessarily think it was as big as it was made out to be. The polls showed that Red Tails came out #2 at the box office this weekend. Not bad at all if you ask me. Now the thing that has me wondering is how come so many people pushed this very positive movie and it came out #2 in the end... and if an ignorant movie geared towards African Americans (Madea flicks) comes out (without people being pushed to support it), it ends up going to #1? Hmm....... Just one of those things that makes me wonder....

You and me both. I wasn't able to make it to the movies to see Red Tails due to other obligations, but I look forward to seeing it very soon.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm living in a cave, seeing since I've never heard of it. That may also be blamed on the fact that I live in Utah?? Anyways maybe I will check out the trailers online today :)
ReplyDeleteDo you really want me to rant that the black community has been "trained" into thinking comedy or hood movies is the only way to tell "our" stories? When a movie comes out that shows us in a different light then what media has forced our images into, we dont know what to. Still I'm confident that over time movies like Red Tails will help wake up the black community. It says volumes it's came in at #2. Volumes! #EndRant
ReplyDeleteHmmm...seems like that's our pattern. I was thinking on the last Tyler Perry movie....enough is enough of this mess!!!!! There's so much more to the black community other than what we're portrayed as. Sorry but no one in my family resembles Madea. LOL we saw the movie last night and im wondering when I'm going to hear people say what the really think about it.
ReplyDeleteI thought Red Tails was a great movie. It does boggle my mind when less artistic and stereotypical movies make huge chunks of money.
ReplyDeleteGirl, you know folks like ignorance/negative stuff!
ReplyDeleteI definitely wanna check this one out - i hope me and DH can get a babysitter and make it to the theatres while its still out.
