Progresso Soup Prize Pack | Giveaway (closed)

Hey guys, I have gotten another chance to work with MyBlogSpark to review a great product and this time around it is for the newly improved Progresso soups. I received a nice prize pack that came with one can of Chicken Tortilla Progresso Soup and one can of Light New England Clam Chowder Progresso soup, a spoon rest, soup can rack, and soup mug with matching spoon. I am a big clam chowder fan so I really wanted to try that variety first. I will say that honestly I prefer the original over the light but I added a little garlic and black pepper and was pretty pleased with the overall taste.

Progresso has come a long way when it comes to your average soup in a can. They offer Progresso® New World Recipes™, Progresso Light, Progresso Reduced Sodium, and Progresso High Fiber (just to name a few). There are so many varieties to choose from and a lot of options for if you are watching your calorie and sodium intake as well as other dietary needs. For more information about the new and improved varieties of Progresso soups as well as great recipe ideas, visit www.progressosoup.com today!

Have you seen the funny little soup can commercials on television? Here is one of my favorites...

I'm allergic to clutter

I spent the weekend getting rid of things. I have been pushing things around here and there and finally got sick of it. I packed up my car trunk and parted with a whole lot of stuff. My kids had a HUGE zipper bag (the kind you get a king-sized comforter set in) filled with Christmas related stuffed animals. Now don't get me wrong, so many of them were so adorable and filled with memories but realistically I'm no hoarder. I keep a few things as memories but I donate most things. When you open up a bag of things that make you sneeze then you know it is time to let it go. It feels so good to see spaces open up and it truly feels like we are moving forward. Now I did come across 3 bags of baby clothes but I still have to sort through it. I had no problem getting rid of the 1 year and older stuff. There is just something so special about the baby stuff. I still believe in the "less is more" mentality.

My husband is just not right

Today was the most wonderful day of the year...Black Friday. I was so well prepared for this shopping extravaganza that everything was ironed, set out, alarm set, packed up and organized the night before. I took the bag that is pictured as my "purse" because it is super lightweight, compact and I could wear it on my back so my hands could be free to shop. When Dwayne saw me bring out my little cinch sac he said it looked like a shoplifter bag. WTH?? Wow, just when I thought I heard it all...The man said it looked like I was going to go out to steal. The girls told me it was a smart move and that it looked fine. Although Dwayne still did not care for me using it I did so anyway. I was at my final destination and we were waiting in line to pay. I asked Dwayne to grab a small toy train for William and he hands it to me. I had my shopping bag in my shoulder and my cinch sac slung around my arm so I could grab my shopping discount pass and wallet. I accidentally put the train in the wrong bag for a split second and your boy tried to bring me out in the store. He told me I was trying to lift the toy train. What a jerk! We laughed so hard and then headed to Chick-fil-A for some breakfast. Oh the adventures of Shelly and Dwayne are always so interesting....

Renuzit Adjustables Giveaway {closed}

Winners are #22 Steph and #60 Shelley~ Congratulations!

The holiday season is in full swing and if you are like me then you like to keep a nice festive scent in the air all over your home. With Renuzit Adjustables you can do so for a great price! They sell for no more than a dollar at most retail stores and they come in some really nice scents. I love the holiday line~ Winter Berry, Festive Snow, Apples & Cinnamon and Holiday Cookie. I received the Apples & Cinnamon Adjustables right in time for the holidays. I am keeping it in the hallway bathroom since this is the one my guests will use. I currently have one in Simply Vanilla in my office and I really like the sweet, subtle smell. I think these would make simple teacher gifts for the holidays if you put them in a decorative cellophane bag with some coordinating shredded stuffing paper or gift tissue.Not a bad frugal gift especially if you have a lot of teachers to buy for!

The Renuzit Team has sent me some coupons for FREE Renuzit Adjustable Air Fresheners to share with friends and family! Two (2) readers will receive three (3) coupons each.

To enter please let us know what your favorite Renuzit scent is or which one you would like to try.

Happy Thanksgiving

I wanted to wish all my favorite people in the blogworld a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am so thankful for everyone who takes time to read and comment on my blog. If you are traveling please be safe and enjoy your time with loved ones. We are staying home and I am going to prepare a big feast with the girls. We are doing the same traditional meal like we do every year since I always get outvoted. Don't be surprised if I post photos!
I am also preparing for Black Friday with Dwayne. We have our list made out of what we need from each store. I plan to pack snacks and bottled water just in case. We are keeping things simple and are mostly buying necessities although I do have Keurig on my mind (hint hint)...I'll even take the cheaper model. We were lucky last year that it was not as crowded as we thought it would be so let's hope it works out that way this year. I can't wait!

Are you brave enough to hit the streets on Black Friday?

Adopted Ed Review

I received the sweetest book called Adopted Ed by Darren Maddern (illustrated by Erin Fusco) to review. Although I am not adopted nor my children I do know many people who were or have children that were adopted. I really love how simple this book is for younger children to understand. The illustrations are very fun and lively and really help tell the story. It is a heartwarming and encouraging story about overcoming bullies and being proud of who you are.

I really think this is an excellent resource for parents, grandparents, family members and elementary school teachers to read since adoption is so common. The end of the book shows some famous people you might not have known were also adopted.

Darren Maddern is just one of the many millions of adopted people throughout the world today. You can learn more about him here. Please check out Adopted Ed on Facebook and Twitter.

I received a copy of the book from One2One Network for review purposes only.

What makes my day right

Every morning is always a struggle getting Dwayne out the door for work. The kids are a breeze, they are always prepared to leave on time. Dwayne is a lounger. He wants to chat and chill in the morning. I am the clock watcher and the nag. I am constantly pointing at the clock telling him he needs to leave. The problem is, we are both engaging in conversation and it is so hard to stop. Dwayne is so silly in the morning with all of his corny jokes and foolishness. I can truly say that my weekday morning is never complete without our long "see ya later" kisses and hugs at the front door before he leaves for work. Some mornings he will even call before he gets to the office to tell me he misses me already. He is going to get me for telling his business!! For the record, he is still the manly man he makes himself out to be to everyone but underneath that athletic chest (haha!) is a warm and loving heart. I love that crazy man!

How does this happen?

Yesterday morning I took Brie to the pediatrician for a check-up. I had to take William with me since I have nobody to keep him. I thought it was no big deal. We dropped Brie off to school after the appointment and came home. I noticed over the next couple hours William was pretty quiet and just lounging around. I knew something had to be wrong. By 2:00 he had a 101.4 fever! HUH?? He was just fine and bam! So today his fever is down to 99.4 so I am keeping an eye on him. He has no other symptoms and is in good spirits. I think it might be teething. I am hoping he did not pick up any germs at the doctor's office. He does not get sick so I am so sad :( Thankfully he is his usual sweet self. We shall see...

It's not just a hat

See the hat in the picture? Well it has been in Dwayne's life for about 10+ years now. He LOVES this hat dearly. A friend he used to work with (who is now deceased) in his 911-communications days gave it to him for Christmas. Dwayne used to work the graveyard shift and the center would be freezing due to all the high-tech equipment. So regardless of what it felt like outside, he wore it for 12 hours straight inside the workplace. He loved this hat so much that he would wear it to bed at night during the winter months. Sexy huh?

We were in Walmart together (hat included) about a week and a half ago and when we got back to the house he was frantic. He ran back out the front door and was down in my car, the yard and even his car. He runs back in the house to ask if I had his hat. I told him that I didn't. He freaked out and declared that he has lost his hat. He was thinking he dropped it in Walmart. I asked him if he wanted I would go with him to look for it. He was so sad. He was even teary-eyed. This hat was filled with sentimental memories. We did not return to Walmart that night. He had a mini-memorial via YouTube videos of old songs that reminded him of his dawg that gave him the hat. He said good-bye to his hat.

We went to Walmart a couple nights ago and I suggested we see if there was a lost and found. Indeed there was. Dwayne described his hat and viola, there it was! I think he almost cried tears of joy when he was reunited with his precious and very filthy hat. He was ALL smiles. I was happy for him. We brought it home and I washed it up and made it Downy fresh. He was whole again. He knows he will keep better track of his things. Bless his heart, he's a simple man. Can't be mad at that :)

HUGE Klutz Books Holiday Giveaway {closed}

**Winner is #68 Pascha Dudley~ Congratulations!

Hey guys! I am so thrilled to have been given the opportunity to review a couple of the Klutz Books for kids. They are truly fun and entertaining and I love the fact that they allow kids to use their imaginations and creativity through art. I received the Window Art Classic and Capsters books and they are amazing! The Window Art Classic book features the neatest ready-to-trace designs using window paint. When your artwork is complete they can be displayed on windows, mirrors, glass surfaces and more. I know my teenagers would love to create their own mirror art to decorate their rooms and bathrooms.

The Capsters book turns bottle caps into great works of coolness! All you do is add one of the over 300 punch-outs (included) and any gem, charms or knick-knacks you can find that will fit in bottle caps and add the gooey glaze. The result is cute little pieces of art that kids can give to friends and family by personalizing it! I am truly loving this idea for kids instead of video games or traditional toys. I know this will bring hours of creative fun and makes a fantastic holiday gift!

A couple other Klutz books include the Headband and Hairstyles (make your own hair accessories) and also the Klutz Book of Paper Airplanes. Right now through December 17, 2010 Momfiles readers can get 25% off a $50 or more purchase at Klutz.com by using coupon code KZ25. Offers cannot be combined. Code expires December 17th.

Carmex Moisture Plus | Review & Giveaway {closed}

Winner is #41 Drea S. Congratulations!

I was pleasantly surprised today when I looked in my mailbox and saw that I received two tubes of the new Carmex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm in both sheer peach and pink tint. I got to try it out for myself when I did the last Carmex review and I have been wearing it for about a month now.
I really love the smooth feeling when you glide it on. You get the slightest hint of color with a nice shine. It is really good for daytime wear or for those days you are going without make-up. I love the fact that it has sunscreen in it since we don't always think about using any sun protection on our lips. I like the sleek tube too. I would really love to see maybe a cranberry or cocoa tint for darker complexions... Oooh maybe even sparkles! I think it lasts on my lips maybe 2-3 hours depending on how often I sip a drink or eat. Both my daughters have been using them as well and they love it. I think these would make the perfect stocking stuffers or they would be great as a teacher gift for the holidays. They retail for about $2.99.

Sometimes stupid just comes out

I was at the grocery store this weekend with the kids. I was shopping in the later part of the evening so I was not as familiar with some of the night shift workers. I got in line to pay for my stuff and the cashier was staring at my kids. She then asks me if the girl was my daughter (meaning Briahnna). I told her yes and that all 3 of the kids were mine. She then goes on to say (in front of my kids and other people around) "Oh, I did not think she was your child since her skin is dark and her hair is different". All of our mouths were on the floor and in my head I cussed somethin' nasty. Of course I am a lady and I told her that she was indeed my daughter. The lady then feels like an ass and makes some other comment about hair straightening and I just took my receipt and left. I felt so bad for Brie since she looked like she was confused. How could someone say something so ignorant and stupid and make a kid feel bad? I told the girls that I was really annoyed about what she said and they both told me they too were very annoyed. We spoke about it for a few minutes and had to chalk it up to ignorance and the fact that just because you are blood related to someone does not mean you are supposed to look like them. I think it took me 24 hours to get over it. I just know that people should never assume anything when they see that kids of the same family do not look alike. I have seen families with kids of multiple races and it does not phase me. I just know that I reassured all my children that they are all beautiful and uniquely themselves. There will never be anyone else like them in the world.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do

There comes a time that we all have to accept the fact that our children are growing up and as parents we must make all the changes to accommodate this growth. We are finally getting rid of all the last "baby" things. The crib is down and his bed is in place. All of the stuff I have been hanging onto (car seat, playpen, etc) will have a new home. I have a friend who is expecting a baby and she is very happy to take these items off my hands.
I guess the only way to do it is to just do it. I am just so thankful that this fella decided to ditch the terrible twos early and he is showing us what a big boy he is.

WTH? Wednesday

Well I have some things to get off my chest.
  • I will start with your boy Dwayne. I was in the shower the other day and he came home early (unexpectedly) and he knocked on the door, opened it up and stuck his head in. I then stick my head out of the shower to greet him. Why did he give me this look and call me the lunch lady?! I was wearing a clear shower cap and this fool said I looked like the lunch lady! WTH! I hate him...hahaha!
  • I recently wrote about how I ordered some 5"x7" greeting cards (for hubby's business) and the company (one I use ALL the time) sent me envelopes that were too small...well how about more than a week later I finally get my new envelopes only for them too once again be too small! Now I am expected to wait another week for the what will hopefully be the correct sized envelopes. WTH?! Guess where I will NOT be ordering holiday cards? humph!
  • I had a $5 off $45 purchase coupon for Kroger the other day. My purchase came up to $46. Why did I not have my coupon? Grrrr...
  • What's up with folks who never update or comment on Facebook and all of a sudden their birthday or anniversary come up and the are an FB addict for a day? Wow, how tacky.
  • WTH is up with fake a$$ people?
  • Last one, why in life do people smoke in the car with the windows almost all the way up with babies in the back seat? WTH?!
Please be sure to leave your WTH moments in the comments....

Cowlicks

I just can't seem to get any really good photos of William these days. He is more interested in looking at the pictures on the camera more than getting his actual photo taken. Look at the funky wave in the front of his head. It does not matter how much you brush it, it always goes in whatever direction it wants. I think I am going to let his curls grow in just a little bit and see what it looks like. If he looks too girly then we will have Dwayne shave it off. I tell you what though, having a boy is a dream. I went through way too much doing hair for so many years with the girls. I am so glad that they finally pretty much have a handle on it although they still ask me to help them sometimes.

Buying toys online made easier with Ebeanstalk

Buying toys online can be scary and intimidating since you never know quite what you are going to get. You might wonder, will the toy be fun to play with? What is the quality like? Ebeanstalk wants to make sure their customers are 100% satisfied with all of their toys. Their website is so easy to navigate when shopping for toys. You can shop according to a specific age, gender, category or brand. I am impressed with just how many brands they carry including one of my favorites, Melissa and Doug.

They have moms like me test out their toys to make sure they have the safest baby toys and the most popular kids toys around. They are always looking for more opinions, so head on over to Ebeanstalk and let them know what you think the best learning toys are!

Yo Gabba Gabba! Live- There's a Party in my City!

We were so fortunate to get tickets to go see Yo Gabba Gabba! Live- THERE'S A PARTY IN MY CITY! We could not believe they actually came to our small city of Columbia, South Carolina. I will say that the venue was packed and the fans came in all ages. The crowd was so full of energy and excitement. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook then you would know how excited I was! All of the "kids" were given DJ Lance Rock glasses when we entered. Obviously you see which two got them...

Although Chardie and Brie are 16 & 14 they were so excited to be there to see the show. The music was amazing and we were all jammin' to our favorite songs. William was immediately drawn to all the sights and sounds. Dwayne and I were concerned about how William would do since he tends to get a bit overwhelmed with very loud music and large crowds. He showed us what a big boy he was. We were all so happy with how much he enjoyed the show!

If you took a good look around the audience there were so many smiles and such a sense of family and happiness all around. DJ Lance Rock and the Gabba crew were so entertaining and really made the audience a big part of the show with all of the interaction. Even when they did the intermission there was no time to get restless, they kept the music going and the balloon drop was a HUGE hit! At least the little ones has something to keep them busy while you waiting for the show to continue.
Now the best part that Dwayne and I especially loved was when Biz Markie came out to do Biz's beat of the day. I had to warn Dwayne when Biz asked who wanted to come up to spit a beat with him that he could not go up there. He was sad. No really, he was so sad. He wanted to go onstage.

It is unanimous when I say that this was the best show we have ever seen! The girls even said that they would have missed other social functions to see that show again! Now when you hear that from teenagers then you know it was amazing!! I think if you are a Yo Gabba Gabba! fan then you should really check it out for yourself if they come to your city. We left with happy hearts. Little William is still singing the "Good-bye" song days later :)

Warm Buddy Review and Giveaway {closed}

**Contest Closed**
Winner is #91~ Congratulations!

"Everybody Needs a Warm Buddy"

I have been introduced to a new item that made me ask myself ~"Where have you been all my life?". It's called the Warm Buddy Body Wrap and it is my family's most fought over item. What is a Warm Buddy Body Wrap? It is a heat/cold pack that is a unique alternative to traditional electric heating pads or hot water bottles. It is made from the softest designer fabrics and contains natural grains and lavender flowers for a soothing aromatherapy experience.The wrap has an inner pack that you remove to heat up in the microwave or it can be placed in the freezer. It is 10"x20" so it is a really good size.We have used it heated up and we love it! The pack stays warm for about an hour and it gives great relief from back, shoulder and leg pain. Dwayne was in an auto accident a few months ago and he has been suffering from back and leg pain. The Warm Buddy Heat Wrap has been such a big help and the best part is NO drugs are needed! This would have been ideal for the girls to have during volleyball season for sore shoulders and knees. I think the Warm Buddy Body Wrap would make a great gift for the holidays for anyone on your list! It is one of those items that is perfect for the person who already has everything. I think grandparents, parents, in-laws and athletes would truly benefit from this product. Warm Buddy offers a variety of other therapeutic items such as the Anti-Stress Shoulder Wrap, Aromatherapy Sleep Mask,Warming Booties and so much more! Tide with Acti-lift

I am such a laundry detergent snob. I truly love Tide. Tide now has Acti-Lift which helps to soften up tough stains that can be hard to get out. I find this very helpful with William and Dwayne's clothing since they make the most mess! I recently started using the scents with a touch of Febreze and the whole family loves the way everything smells. I wanted to share with you that the P&G brand site has $1 off coupons off almost all the Tide products. I know a lot of you love online shopping. Some of the items will even give you a bonus product at checkout. Just thought I would share since I did not realize you can purchase Tide online. Oh yeah and they take PayPal! :)

The Man Room

We recently did a little home improvement project in Dwayne’s Man Room. Yeah, I let him have a room all to himself. I say he is lucky. I would have otherwise turned it into a playroom. I really wanted to get some new bathroom furniture, a bedding set or repaint the kitchen but the Man Room project won.

So the Man Room project was to replace the old carpet with new flooring and we opted to go the frugal way by doing the work ourselves. We went with a higher end vinyl tile (self-sticking) since the base of the floor is concrete. Dwayne let William help with the rolling of the first few tiles. Don't laugh at the rolling pin, I did say we were doing things frugally!
When the boy started doing wild things like this it was time to send him upstairs to his sisters. Things started to get rather sticky (literally) It took us about 7 hours since we had to cut all the detailed edges and corners. Those were the moments I wanted to jump out the window. I could not wait to be DONE!
We were both is so much pain we could not believe it. Your boy Dwayne behaved like the usual fool and I did have to say a few (dozen) choice words. Let's just say he likes to try some really dumb things instead of doing it the proper way and I have to get on him. Thankfully we made it through and it came out really beautiful~ besides his wall art. His favorite stuffed bass. People always ask him if he caught it. He tells them "Sho nuff, caught it at an estate sale!".
I am kind of jealous now. I think this color is so nice with his custard colored walls.

Now we are thinking about the next project.... Who knows what the next Shelly & Dwayne adventure will be!
