Preschool or not?

I was talking to my daughters and we were talking about William going to school. We refer to kindergarten as the start of school since neither of the girls went to preschool. They were telling me that out of all their friends, they were the only ones that never attended preschool before kindergarten. I have thought about what I will do with William. Currently my decision is to teach him at home and not put him in preschool. It worked with the girls and since I am a stay-at-home mom indefinitely then I don't see why I need to do it. I almost seem to be an outcast since I am the only mom I know that has never done the daycare/preschool thing prior to kindergarten. If I'm home I don't see the need to spend the money if I can teach my child one-on-one. We have the park/zoo/library at hand for the social part. What do you think? What did you do with your little one?

  1. I think, as long as you add in the social aspect along with the teaching, William should be fine as were your daughters. I think the problem comes in when parents keep the children home but do not socialize them with other children their age. When they get to school, they cannot interact with the other children. My mother works in an elementary school and she says that the social part is the main problem with children that do not attend preschool.

  2. My children all loved Preschool. I enrolled Kyndle for this upcoming Fall, and she's so excited. I think Preschool gives them that extra boost with forming friendships outside of their family, but it isn't necessary. William is so bubbly and happy in your post pictures. I think he will excel either way!

  3. I agree. I don't "work", I am currently in school, and I stay at home 24/7. I don't see a reason to take my kids to daycare when I know I will be at home anyways.

I love being able to teach my kids, its a rewarding feeling to see your child learn, and while you can it feels good to spend time with your kids if you can.

I love it so much, that I just might actually home school my kids. I'm looking into it. I won't do it forever, but if it seems right I will. With budget cuts and all I feel like my kids won't get that quality education. We even thought as far as moving to South Carolina because they have been public school systems than North Carolina.

All of my children were preschooled. I do agree that it gives them starter skills in developing relationships outside of family. I worked, so sending them to preschool was our only option but being able to have hands on teaching with William is priceless...

  5. I've sent all my kids to preschool. If it's been working for you, I don't think it's necessary. I do think I will send my youngest for a half day. I do agree with the spending money if, we're at home.

  7. Since I work full time he was enrolled in daycare. He has been at the same school since 6 months(stayed with Grandma the first 5 months). He recently graduated and I am letting him stay with his Grandma for a month before he begins kindergarten.

  9. My son has been in daycare since he was 6 weeks old. :-( I've decided to put him in preschool part-time this fall to help ease the transition. I think he is definitely ready so we'll see how it goes.
