William has a new toy!

A few weeks ago I was asked to test toys for a company called ebeanstalk. They sent out a number of baby toys and toys for 1 year olds to toy experts (moms) for their review. Through reviews such as mine, this helps ebeanstalk select great learning toys . The toy they sent was First Shapes Jumbo Knob Puzzle from Melissa and Doug who makes lots of wooden toys.

I was really impressed by the quality of this puzzle and really can appreciate the toddler friendly features. I am sure we all can relate to needing something destruction-proof when you have a 16 month old! Since this puzzle is made out of wood I feel there is minimal chance of breaking it. I really love the big knobs that make gripping each piece so much easier.

I also like how basic this puzzle is featuring simple shapes and colors. Another sneaky way to teach a busy toddler! William is really enjoying his new toy and I would certainly recommend it to anyone and I think it would make a great first birthday gift for a boy or girl. The prices are reasonable and there are so many different varieties of puzzles. I think William's next one will be the map of the United States of America.

Do you currently own any toys from Melissa and Doug?

  2. Haha! I've not owned toys for years now. But this one does look like a good one. The only danger that I see here is that it's made of wood. It may not break easily, but the kid may stub himself. And you know how everyone hates getting stubbed... (Happened to me countless of times. I always cry every time. :D)

  3. I have a stack of Melissa & Doug Puzzles, Jaimen loves them! And I do too, the fun things they learn, they really wouldn't otherwise. For instance we have a fish one, and Jaimen knows stingray, jellyfish, squid, etc. We don't have an aquarium close enough to home, so this is a fun way for him to learn it.
I like to play games with them to, to keep him thinking. I will say- find the one that stings and is pink- he has fun this way since he already knows all their names.
The united states one is a good idea, I am putting that on my list.

Oh and I about fell out of my chair when you said "16 month old" it seems like he just turned one yesterday!

  4. Oh one more thing, Jaimen only has one puzzle with the knobs and he really enjoyed banging them on my most favorite piece of wood furniture. We had to take it away until he got over that.

  5. We own some wooden puzzles, stamp sets and I have to say they are durable. The best one that comes to mind is our Melissa and Doug Easel. Somehow that thing ended up in the backyard 3 yrs ago and it never made it's way back inside. Oh yeah I know why, the paint. Hehehe....well it has rained, the sun has beaten it and it is still in excellent condition. The kids have roughed it up also but that easel is still standing. Melissa and Doug products are very high quality.
